Event Table Edit ComponentLanguage

With this component you can create a table in the frontend and administrate it completely from this. The component is multi language in front- and backend. (Till now english.php (Should be improved), german.php, germanf.php, germani.php) So what is the advantage to a normal content table: I had the problem, that at one of my sites users wanted to arrange appointments through a table. Now the big problem was, that everytime when a user didn't leave the article properly it was locked (checked out) and it couldn't be edited by anyone. With Event Table Edit you can avoid this. There is a check in / out, too so there should be no conflicts at editing. But the lock can be overriden so an article isn't locked permanently. Furthermore the component has many useful functions like create new cols / rename them / management of the rows etc. In the backend the user access levels for the different edit functions can be adjusted.

New in Version 2.1.1 Beta2
# Browsers: Event Table Edit should now work under IE6 / IE7 / IE8 / Firfox / Opera / Safari / Chrome.
# CSV-Import: Now it should be possible to import big CSV-Files without a memory overflow, additionally you can now choose Dropdowns and Booleans when importing files. When no pagebreak is defined, after 300 rows the table is breaked in the frontend anyway to prevent memory overflows. The third change is, that files that are not encode with UTF-8 but with ISO-8859-1 should be imported correctly, now.
# Bugfix: Added Dropdowns and Booleans to the list when changing the datatype in the frontend.
# Bugfix: Fixed some problems with the printview.
# Bugfix: With some server configurations, problems with special chars occured. Now the strings are always converted to htmlentities, so there should be no more problems

Features:
*Multilingual
*ACL Management. Even set ACLs for single users.
*Free editable table
*Table completely editable from the frontend
*Automatic sorting for rows
*Fast table styling from the backend

So have fun with the new version

Report

Used it on 2 sites now. Easy install. Takes a little time to make the layout and rights as desired. Some very minor bugs.

-An additional datatype 'name' would be convenient.

Brilliant in it's simplicity.
This is exactly the extension I was looking for. A table in the frontend which can be easily changed by the users, btw young volleyball players. We use it as a tool for the players to edit whether they participate on events, if they have a driver and so on....

Hi!

I had been looking for a simple list component for my peakbagging site, and this is by far the best I've found.

But I have one single problem I can't seem to fix by myself. I'd need the urls in my table to target the current window, not a _blank window as they are all local links. I tried to find a way to hack into the BBcode files myself, but that's only a workaround and I'm not skilled enough.

If there was a way to add a BBcode tag that targets the current window, like the new [url] from PHPBB3, it would be an advantage.
I downloaded the 2.1.0 aplha and it seems really impressive. The only strange thing that I found was
- when i click in the Actions column to order, the delete
popup appears while i only want to order the row
- when i insert a new row, the delete icon does not
immediately appear for this row. I need to click save
ordering for that to appear.
Anyways, overall its an excellent powerful extension.
I would suggest the following must have features:
- there should be a way to insert Foreign Key fields. for eg. a basic requirement that I had was to insert the user_id of the current logged in user in a user_id column, so as to understand which user inserted the data.
If this is provided, then it should be used to filter the data visible to the user if it is inserted by him. So that he can only modify his own inserted data. Only admin should be able to modify ALL the data.
- also it would be neat if it were possible to integrate the users with the Community builder extension and provide a tab in the profile to view the user entered data.
- it would also help to insert different foreign keys, apart from the user ID, so that when the user specifies a foreign key type, then a drop down of all the possible values appears in the field automatically.
- also a search feature can be provided to search for individual user rows and other foreign keys.
Great going guys, am sure you must have already thought of these requirements, waiting to see them soon.
Thanks a lot for a great extension once again.

Thanks for your ideas!
The best way for feature requests is to enter them on joomlacode.org.
And the big problem is, that there's no team to built this component. At the moment - at least with coding it - there's only an I. And this is much to less to have many features implemented. So I think the only way to have this features is to join the coding team....

I have downloaded the latest event table and can not event install it. The error says that the xml file is missing.... This should be fixed!

Could you give me more information about this? Or write me an email to kaspar.manuel@gmx.de? Thanks

I just needed a calender for listing all sport matches we had to play. A lot of those calenders out there are beautifull but with way too many features. With this component I can make the calender myself and use it for lots more. Simple, but effective. Keep up the good work! Would be nice though if it came with (a) module(s).

What exactly would you like in the module?

thanx so much for that nice component
It's so simple and powerful

while working on it I tried to search for a module to show my tables at the frontpage but there was nothing. I think that such a module is important in many cases
Owner's reply

Hi,
Ah I think it's not neccessary to have a module. Make a menu link to the table and set it to standard in the joomla backend menu manager.

Thank you for this great extension!

I was looking for a way to make a table of rates that my vacation rentals client could easily update. I looked and looked before getting the idea to look under Event Calendars.

You can make any kind of table with this tool. As many columns as you need, it seems. And it edits from the front end.

It took me a while to figure out at first, because you set it up mostly from the front end, but, if a newbie like me can use it, then anyone should be able to.

Keep up the good work!

What a lovely tool! Easy to install, configure, and use.
I only wish I could import from excel or similar (probably can, just haven't figured it out yet).

Kudos and thanks!

This is also integrated in the next version :-)

I love this component. This gives more flexibility to my website. But I wish There is a option on every table confition where the admin can deside the rows loading criteria. For example lets say I have country table
Currently it is loading all the rows into single page and taking time if we have toomany rows. Instead of it on the configuration level if it has limit setting option to load By Row Limit : load first 50 rows if the configuration limit is 50.
or By character that would be great.
I believe this would make this component perfect

This is integrated in the next version. It's a pity, that I don't have enough time at the moment to finish it.

Good work! I'm looking forward to future releases

I used this for an internal website for my company and it works great! Easy to setup and use.
Nice work. Looks and functions great. The application would really sing if you could now incorporate some type of search function. Once the table list grows long, scrolling becomes tedious.
Owner's reply

Thanks a lot.
A search and filter function is discussed at the moment on the components website. I think it will be included in one of the next versions.
