This extension listing should be updated to indicate Joomla 1.7 compatibility. I just installed version 1.0.2 from the authors' website and it works fine on Joomla 1.7.
This extension has lots of functionality including a simple event registration function. The included help is very useful to get started too.

This is a great component with pretty descent flexibility. However, I see last update was 2009 hope to see it stay around. I continue to use it for 1.5, but it needs to be updated to 1.7
If updated please allow to change image upload paths easily and venue image should not have to be in stories directory. Over all very good component. Thanks for it.

This extension considering it is free is great, with a lot of extensions and customizability. Everything worked for me! :)
I have been using this for several months now. I like to leave my reviews for a while to make sure that no unexpected things happen to my site! Anyway, this has not let me down, and once I understood all aspects, it has been very easy to use.
I do not use the registration component at all, so I cannot comment on that. But for listing events, supported by the Qivva ajax calendar, this is worth investigating. Be prepared to spend a little time understanding how the extensive set of elements fit together before giving up on it!

I found Eventlist easy to get on with from the start, simple to set up venues and events. I've tweaked mine quite a bit and added a few extra frills to make it even more useful, but out of the box it's a nice package with some useful extensions. Rokminievents even links directly to it for an events timeline.
Was really looking forward to using this application.
However afterinsalling there latest build on a ja-purity site i had no end of problems.
Events dont save in the front end or back end
Veneus dont save in the front end or back end
Reading through their forums this problem has been about since april - its now july.
Extension should either be rolled back or taken down from JED untill it is fixed.
I hope and look forward to them getting the problem sorted soon.

I just registered to add this quick review.
Best non-commercial event component!
Easy to use and includes all the features I needed (categories, front end venue adding, etc.), just as you'd expect it.
Real quick support at "JLV Solutions" (Google it!)
@W-bizz, @AlSc, @all: Download for J1.6: google for "eventlist joomla 1.6 download" and hit the joomlaos link (german) (unfortunately still beta because of some Joomla security issues!)
I'd really like to add some links, but: not allowed. :(
Love it!

Have always installed and used this excellent app. It works as it should and is easy to use. I am waiting for an upgrade for Joomla 1.6 native, as I do not use the "legacy" plugin. Am concerned most posts and news on their site is almost a year old. Are they still in development? Will there be a version for 1.6? Certainly hope so, as this FREE Open-Source extension is superior to all the Commercial ones offered.
I'm usually the quiet user but in this case I feel I must out of respect and thanks to the JLV team for this component.
It was very easy to install and configure. Best of all of the code was well structured and easy to navigate which makes customizing a breeze.
The supporting 3rd party plugins and modules only enhance the EventList experience for you and your users.
Super thanks and shout out to Edmond (efduggan) in their forum for fast and quality support. Not only that but a honest interest to ensure your issue is resolve. Not often a support tech chases you to ensure you are OK!
5 outta 5 for me. Well worth it.

Overall I like this a lot but it can't alert users to changes in events. My users expect to be automatically notified of any new event at any venue by any group.
I use the J!Mail-Alerts component and plugin which does work well and solves *some*, but not all my issues.
EventList would be a much better component in my opinion if it natively handled emails to users of new events, new venues, etc, and let users choose which groups or venues to follow, along with an option to send alerts for any/all events/groups/venues by default.
That's the only reason I downrated it from 5 stars to 4.

Out of the box, this gets me 90%+ what I need. The code is very clean, self documenting / easy to modify as needed.
I do have a question / possible feature request. In my case, I have a small number of events to list, and don't want to have to tie a venue to an event. An additional paramater under details for a "more information" URL would be good. I will be using this for our website to list industry meetings. For each of these meetings, we have an entire section of pages devoted. I would like to link each event to eithe an external URL or a content item. To build on this... This new parameter (URL) could be an additional choice for the hyperlink on your module.
Another idea: Maybe add an ical download link for each event?
Overall, extremely useful for those of us who do not want to show via calendar objects...

I had a jquery problem right out of the box when trying to create a new venue. But it mysteriously cleared up.
The forms are all CSS and the designers left a lot to be desired in their templates. They should have used tables along with CSS to make better looking forms. They lack the use of conditional comments to handle IE quirks. Therefore the forms are less friendly by only have a single set of save/cancel buttons.
Overall it works. And if you don't mind tinkering with the templates and css you will be ok.
