But I have to agree with other guys - Spam comes every day... Does not matter - registration form or whatever... Denied guests and still have a spam...

I tryed it on january, and later i transleted it in Italian (sending the files to the author).

It work like a charm but as some little limitation, like the need to run on the home page or some function will be not avaible (like delete a msg)

I decided to add a shoutbox to cut down on chat style conversations on my forum. The install went smoothly, and this extension has brought in many new users. The pro version works great.

I have tried every shoutbox or chat available in Joomla for my site. Ajax shoutbox is the best there is by far. Quick and easy to set up with no problems.

It also has ha very active forum so if you have questions they are quick to respond.

If you need people to communicate on your site this is all you need.

This extension made my site very interactive. Because my site caters to teenagers, the shoutbox has been a very powerful tool to communicate with visitors.

It's the first one that I pay for and the first one I comment, and it's really cheap for the advantage it gives to my site.

Pros: Very easy to install, the pro version lets you control Ips, ban, censore words, use a captcha... Necessary things (sadly), due to the amount of spammers out there searching for every little space to write their crap on. I thought I wouldn't need security, but I did...
Tip: The languages are easy to change just by editing the en-GB mod-shoutbox.ini file.

To improve: The app would be perfect if it could be more customizable and sizeable through the admin panel, without the need of having to edit the .css file.

Congrats to the developer(s) for this easy and really useful app.

I had this downloaded a year ago, when it was version 1.15. I liked it, but one flaw was that it had a bug. After little while I was being bombarded with spams. At the time, there were no cure, so I disposed of it.

Today I noticed they had v1.2 and Pro versions. So I gave 1.2 a try. After installing it, turns out it's the same old v1.15, just renamed to version 1.2. And of course, getting same spams. Their forum talks about this bug and suggests upgrade to Pro version (commercial).

Is any Pro version users having same problem?

This extension is pretty good using FF and IE7.. when i used it in IE6.. it causes problem on my module positions. i wonder why.... =/

I used to have the free one (and it was working fine) however, I now have the PRO version (because of the additional features).

Installation was smooth, simple and painless.

I am using the Pro version, the only thing missing from my point of view to make this a killer, is the JomSocial avatars from members on the Shoutbox.

Either way, this is a great addon.

I use the pro version on J 1.5 and it works fine just out of the box.

Everythink you will need to customize, you will find within the developers forum.

If you had a 10 stars category I would have given this extension 11, that much I am pleased with the Shout Box and the service/support I received from the developer. Not only he showed unusual patience in listening to the tweaks that I asked him to modify in the software but he went one step further and implemented other aspects as well.

So now I have two Pro versions installed on my site, One open to the public to shout as much as they would like and ANOTHER Pro version which is accessible only to me and serves as a lightening fast broadcasting medium to reach only the registered users of my site. It has the sound option enabled so that when I speak, those tuned in, are alerted and are able to immediately see my message.

I don't know enough about Programming to suggest detailed revisions or modifications, but I would imagine if the Shout Box could support other forms of data and not just typed text, delivered at such high speed, the value of it as a channel of communication/broadcasting would certainly rise. I am thinking for example of being able to embed Photos, graphs, small maps etc, along with the text.

A sophisticated feature could be the ability to open a private channel from within the public Pro version to enable two parties to terminate or continue their exchange of ideas without others being able to view their conversation.

Final verdict, if you are looking for a Shout Box or a live messaging board, this extension is well worth your while to check out. You can first try the free version which is just identical to the Pro, just that the Pro will give you more controls/options.

This is the best shoutbox i have ever seen.

Perfect one. The only problem which I saw is that it breaks some other Ajax components (for example mod_rokintroscroller) if they are on the same page...

Wonderful Module ... would like to have it very much on my site, but
after module placement, my pull down menu can not work anymore... The pull down menu works only to the 1st level pull down, can not show 2nd level and beyond.
It's a shame that I can not use the module due to that. If there is a solution, definitely I'll have the module reinstalled. Good work!!
