Joomunity Popular ComponentModulePluginLanguage

Joomunity builds dynamic and vibrant community sites on the worlds most successful CMS – Joomla. With lots of inspiration from popular networks like Facebook, MySpace, Netlog and Beboo, joomunity compiles a set of USEFUL and EASY to build applications to enable effective collaboration amongst Joomla Site users.

* Build an on-line community like Facebook in minutes. The initial concept of Joomunity was to try to make it look exactly like the facebook platform. But with a lot of advice, critics and comments, there is a deal of flexibility in there, and with styles, you can build a powerful social site, to do just what you want it to do

* Beautiful JavaScript powered interface Pure CSS and XHTML, spiced by JavaScript produce a user friendly interface. There is nothing as important on a social site as the user interface. We have got that on our minds, as we improve the component, AJAX and other technologies make the user experience even better

* Highly extensible with addition of ‘applications’ From profile play lists, to simple to-do lists, from large group applications to group-competitions, Joomunity Applications help you do just what your site is purposed for! The ease with which these are made make it possible for you to write your own if need be

* User Relationship management. The potential of your community site, lies amongst its users. To boost this potential, a simple to use user relationship application is put in place to ensure that together your sites visitors could enjoy the things they love

* Photo Management. User photo gallery management. Working to implement other useful tools such as photo tagging, photo sharing and lots more

* Private messaging support. There is no need for additional components to manage your private messaging. Joomunity uses Joomla’s Core messaging tables to provide with a simple and effect messaging utility. Email notifications are sent out on every new message

* Multiple Blogging component support. Joomunity applications provide a simple alternative to very large and complex blogging components. Joomla is a very powerful CMS, and we exploit that potential. Joomunity Articles application helps provide front end users the possibility of publish their own content to specially assigned sections of the site

* Multiple Forum CMS support Fireboard, SMF, PHPBB all through the use of application or components could provide simple one point profiles for the overall site. One of the downfalls of a community site, is to have multiple profiles for a single user. Joomunity aims at bridging the gabs between the Joomla CMS and any other forum application you may be using> We are building a simple forum application which uses XML-RPC to bridge profiles across forums. This app is experimental and still under serious testing

* Language support One of the revolutions of the Joomla 1.5 framework is language support and localization. Joomunity profiles multilingual translation on the fly, with

This project has great potentials and I really regret that this project is still in a phase of non-development ...

I really would appreciate this community component to be in ongoing development.

Best luck!

"Joomunity builds dynamic and vibrant community sites on the worlds most successful CMS – Joomla."

Ummm...no it doesn't.

Hey, I'm all for using the community as test subjects for new software, but this is ridiculous. Joomunity makes some bold claims in its product description and, with the exception of aesthetics, fails to deliver.

After testing Joomunity on two separate occasions, I must admit I'm puzzled by all the favorable reviews.

Does Joomunity look a like a million bucks? Absolutely. I was practically salivating after installing the application. It is truly beautiful to look at...eyecandy... and that's where my favorable review ends.

No matter what I tried, I couldn't get Joomunity to work. I wasted hours experimenting with it.

Trying to get help on the website didn't work either. Joomunity blogs are MIA. Joomunity developers are nowhere to be found. My advice? Wait until this component is stable. It doesn't even come close to delivering all it promises.

I think that this component should be taken out of the repository until it's near production ready and then only with a disclaimer as to its functionality, which is less than zero.
This extension can be a huge addition to your website, and is very robust... If you have many hours to customize it and fix the bugs.

The features are robust: This is almost just like Facebook, but built from the ground up. All the major components are here, including friends, photo galleries, applications and more, but where this extension has great features, it lacks in functionality and ease of use.

I realize this is a beta product, however, there are so many problems with this release that I would advise AGAINST installing it on any site of importance.

The back end is mostly useless, confusing and most of the setting labels are almost impossible to read because they're in code. On top of that, most of the absolute necessary settings and features are completely absent from the admin back end. (Like being able to disable the "Display Birthdate" field being a requirement. Currently the birthday is forced to show.)

Trying to decipher the CSS and customize the style of everything will take you many many hours and cause lots of frustration and confusion. This is because that some style elements are controlled by CSS, and others are hard coded in lots of template files that are scattered deeply in folders that are sometimes many levels deep. Other style elements seem to be completely phantom, as myself and colleagues have been unable to find their source after hours of searching.

Hopefully problems like all users having to dig in their settings and manually enable required applications like the friendship application
before they can have friends, and the fact that no notification is received when new friends request a connection will be fixed along the way out of beta.

Also, it will take my weeks to track down and fix all of the grammar, spelling and capitalization mistakes in the error/confirmation messages and throughout the templates.

Still, this extension shows great promise and will be a required installation on all of my sites from now on. I just hope that I won't grow old just trying to customize and clean it up.

This extension first came out in October of 2008 and it's been a year with no improvement. There is no help and this extension doesn't even work, neither does the demo.

The Forum is down, the Component sucks, i got blank pages ( And i have php 5.2)....dont use this!!!
It's got every thing I need for my next community website.

CB can be hard to get your head around but the admin UI for Joomunity is simple to understand and configure.

I can't wait for the stable version and new custom extentions.

There are still a good few bugs but hopefully the project team are on to them.

I see in the posts below that people are having problems downloading the extentions, I think it's becuse they are included in the component installation.
I can't understand how anyone can rate an extension where even the demo malfunctions. It may be a great idea - but until it functions - thats all it is, and should not be listed here!!!! Get with it please ... fix it, and then publish it. Thanks.

This Component is a good Idea but at the moment it is to buggy for a productive use. Unfortunately the Developer Page of the Project is down so I can't create a Bug-Report.
I hope this component get stable soon.

Honestly, this component has the potential to knock down Jomsocial! Excellent job in this extension. Please don't bail on this great project. Keep working hard and soon you'll be the best Joomla extention out there!

Great job! I've tested this component, with minor bug issues. Looking forward for the stable release.

I agree with the last review. The product is great. If you needs any assistance with anything count us in. Would hate to see this project get abandoned.
Hey there.

So I'm really impressed by the systems functionality and really would like to finish testing the software so i can release this to a few sites (churches and some non-profits) and would like to download the apps that aren't accessible on the website currently. Please let us know if we can be of assistance in getting your site up and running faster or maybe an alternate download site.

thanks for your great work.
Looks great, seems to be aiming for all the basic features you'd want in a community site, extensible but just not quite there yet.

And what's with using jquery? Joomla already includes mootools, why not use that?

I'm curious what about PHP 5.2 is needed to make this run. Joomla itself will run in PHP 4 so what is Joomunity doing that requires the higher version?

I would suggest that the developers put more energy into getting the back end features to work perfectly and less into making the front end look nice or use fancy javascript. Most people who install this on their site will replace the front end with their own design anyway.
i have installed this component and last 10 days trying to find download link for some of the core applications did not work out of box.
i set it up very short time and easy bind with facebook. it has very good features and very professional looking community component + free
but seems like photos (for gallery) chat and some others don't work with their latest release Joomunity 1.1.0 Beta 3 revision-431.
their web site is not very useful either , many links broken. you can only download component and a few plugins . i could not find anything in their forum. all they say is they are updating web site
overall very frustrating and time wasting for this component i will give 4 stars because it free
however if they don't fix those issues i think for me to move on to CB or azrul.
I have used each and every community solution out there for joomla but none was so promising!
I can't believe itz opensource.......
Good work guyz...keep it up....
Get it out of BETA....!
I can't wait to see a stable version of this component......Well, the beta looks so stable....had a few bugs still left, ofcourse, thats why its still in beta.....!!!!
But believe me, as soon as this component is out of beta, itz gonna be the best community extension out there...
U guyz ROCK...
byrocket01 on April 2, 2009
It is certainly a very very nice layout, and seems like it has alot of potential.

I was able to download the core, but not any of the applications. I hope that the developers will respond with whether or not/when the true version will be released.

Additionally, I tried to see if there was an older, but stable version, it was not listed on the site either.

I'm giving it an average simply because it drives me nuts when I go to a site and I have to jump thru hoops to figure out what is going on.

Very well-designed too... Faster the language translation problems will be solved faster the joomunity's community will grow...

Fantastic job by Joomunity developer team. All the best...!!!
This project is excellent. I'll give positive rating to the authors to have better motivation for further development :). I have tested in detail the latest version; has a few bugs, but definitely this will be the biggest project of all Joomla existing, when turn out a stable version. Clean, friendly design, excellent interface. This may be a component that will compete with greater social network sites like Facebook. All praise from me. Thanks!
This has great potential - it has a fair amount of Facebook features built in. I know its a beta version so quite a few of the features are not working.

From the front-end its easy for users. Installation is a breeze too but the control panel is a little confusing.

Wish the upload of images was working and that it was possible to create multiple communities from the same installation instead of a single one.

Can't wait for the stable version to be released so that I can implement this.

Joomunity rocks!
byagustealo on February 12, 2009
This is a very well thought out idea and design. Keep in mind this is a beta so they are bugs, but in comparison to CB or CBE this thing Rocks.

This installed fine for me, the back end doesn't resemble the Joomla Layout. Its also not too intuitive, and the configuration options are limited. Some features in the back end don't quite work like setting up a pull down field.

Over all I would give this a 8 out of 10 as is, if the bugs are fixed this get a 10+.

Hope to see other developers get involve in the development and even creating extensions and other apps.

This has the potential of being the best noncommercial social networking component for joomla since CB.
