I agree with the earlier poster regarding what appears to be nonstandard implementation of this component and the installation of additional frameworks. After installing I do not know how this is handled in terms of a backup since the frameworks are installed by the component and not via joomla. From comments on his blog uninstalling

Two weeks on from purchasing the component I still cannot get the "pause form" functionality to work properly so I'm giving up.

er? I think you are mislead - you install just like any other extension! To upgrade: you uninstall, and install the new version - all other upgrade tasks are taken care of for you transparently so you don't have to be a Geek or Code guru to do an upgrade - its that simple!
The implementation is also simple, you install the extension, and this provides everything it needs right in the /plugins/system folder :-)
Support: I answer all emails personally, I have corresponded with you over many times(25/Sept 25/Sept 29/Sept 30/Sept 2/Oct 14/Oct !!) and the root cause of your problem is a bug in Joomla 1.5.14 which is resolved in 1.5.15 already! This was never a bfForms issue :-) - Please do not leave misleading "facts" that are untruthful and lies.

Hi had used Blue Flames wonderful old Phil-a-form in the past so when it came time to find a new Forms component I checked out Phil's new one. While comparing it to the other popular ones out there, what really convinced me was the ability to add fields like "all US States" in a pre-filled drop down - what a time saver! Check out his admin demo - you will be impressed with the ability to add pre-filled fields, joomla specific fields, and hidden fields like a user's IP address!

Not to bad, but I'm not big on the way it's implemented. I prefer to have things "standard" in my joomla configuration. With programs not taking off on their own and doing their own thing.
I only use GNU/Linux operating systems. And for some reason this software crashed Firefox a couple times. That and, a couple times it just hung. Would be better to keep Joomla proggies within a standard way to operate in Joomla in my opinion.
Forms are okay. Code that I viewed looked okay. This is, in my opinion geared towards someone that has never hand written a form. Which does have it's place.

Your review shows that you clearly dont understand what is going on under the hood :-)
Our extensions DO use the "STANDARD" way of doing things within Joomla, you might be confused upon first seeing our application because we HIDE the extra Joomla menus to give you MORE SPACE to work within our app (Screen real-estate is a premium), but things are still very mmuch within Joomla.
We also use standard libraries such as jQuery and xAJAX which are widely used in web applications. We dont really go off and do our own thing :-) except where we need to in order to bring you the best Forms Extension for Joomla Ever!
bfForms is developed on a Ubuntu machine using Firefox - I dispute that you would ever have issues with using this combination - I challenge you to use a new Firefox profile (to remove any extension and settings) and try again - you are the only person to report this (Maybe you should have asked for support rather than only giving our product 2 stars!??)
The output of bfForms is as close to xHTML standards as we can acheive :-) We pass all xHTML tests!

I'm not sure what to say about this that hasn't been said in other reviews: but indeed, this is a seriously powerful and easy to use form builder, with great integration and great support.
Form building is a tool that almost every website developer will need at some point for any number of tasks. And when the time came for me, I looked long and hard through the JED and elsewhere for the best solution. I factored in a number of things but most importantly, how was the support and how well was the code being maintained. Phil Taylor's Blue Flame Forms met all of my requirements and then some.
Perhaps it's not as set it and forget it as some other extensions (and why would it be: forms are a complicated beast and have to be able to do a lot of things), but considering how many variables there are in the many Joomla sites there are out there Phil Taylor has done a top job in cover all the basics and more, and the support really is top notch. Of all the form extensions I tried, this was the easiest to get up to speed on.

My Request for Quote form was a mess until I came across this extension. Not only did it do the job, but it is the best documented extension I have ever used. You can't go wrong!

After much searching and trialing of various forms, I came across BF Forms. Not only now can I seamlessly integrate with Salesforce (which was my primary focus) and send contacts straight into it through the web-to-lead functionality in BF forms but it is the easiest, most flexible form component. The small investment for this component has already paid for itself in time saved with only a couple of forms.

This extension has made it easy to add forms to my website. The variety of form fields, the validation methods and form actions make this a very flexible solution.
In addition, when I have had problems figuring something out, the support by Phil has been very prompt and resourceful.

Let's face it, those of us who have been doing Joomla for a while know there are certain tools we MUST rely on. We edit with JCE. We manage files with eXtplorer. We build forms with Blue Flame.
The ability to parse an already-built form to create a new one is an IMMENSE time saver. The submit actions are robust and offer simplicity for the novice and depth for the expert.
Yes, there are still a few bugs in Forms (like that nasty IP address check in custom layout), but there are workarounds for these.
Support from Phil is very good. I commend his dedication to personal responses. I've submitted a few fumbles and he's never harsh in his response when I did something really stupid.
You will not be disappointed with this component and I am 100% confident that the on-going updates will continue to refine this already-great tool.
Also - watch for Phil's sales. It's a great way to keep your license count up to date and add more tools to your bag!

I have used quite a few of the forms components for Joomla. They all get the job done, but sometimes in a convoluted manner.
This component was outstanding. It gives you the control to be very creative. I finally am able to easily create a "Contact Us" form that is both professional looking and functional.

I have been using the bfForms for several months and am very happy with them. They provide for a lot of control, the component is extremely easy to install and the forms are quick and simple to create. It provides a simple method for emailing or storing of submitted forms. The new 0.2.169 allows for form entry to be paused (saved) and finished later in the event of a timeout or need for the user to come back later. The new version also fixed IE7 compatibility problems. I did have a conflict with IdoBlog after initial install, but support was able to resolve my issue within the hour of my support request. I have been happy that I chose Blue Flame Forms for our intranet form needs and am excited about the potential this brings for our company.

This component is great! I have been working with Joomla for many years and have seen certain area's go lacking and a forms component has always been lacking...
Everything is SO easy to do with this component it is incredible! I had a problem with the forms submitting (if your using a custom form, don't name the submit button 'submit' haha) and Phil replied within 24hrs and the problem was resolved within days!
This kind of service is commendable and most of the time lacking amongst many other Joomla Developers.

I love this component but I have had issues with support being somewhat erratic. When I first created my form, I had difficulties because I was running on the the wrong version of joomla and I received immediate and fantastic response from Phil. I was asked to send a support request and to ignore the request for 50 pounds. Yet I am receiving emails from paypal requesting payment. I rectified the issue with the version, and I encountered another issue with the form failing to send to me despite having configured (I thought) correctly). I emailed and emailed as this was an urgent job I needed to complete but after 5 days no response. There is no support forum (this has been suspended) so one can only wait for Phil to respond. I tried posting in the forum here and whilst I received a reply it did not help. I evetually nutted out the issue (not Phil's fault) but it cost me 10s of hours and alot of frustration.
It is a great extension, I love it. But support is erratic and seemingly expensive. I was assured that I would not be charged yet I am being asked for money.
I would like the forum re-established so that folk can help each other when Phil is too busy to help us. Plus I feel that 50 pounds is alot when one takes into account currency conversion. For me that is about $130 so that is a considerable sum of money.
Love the extension, don't like the lack of support infrastructure. Probably wouldn't buy it again because I look for ongoing support.

Lets be clear here: Post-Sales support is ALWAYS free!, we have clearly communicated our reasons for not having a forum, and handle each customers support queries PERSONALLY without auto replies or 3rd parties.
You were running a very old version of Joomla that could be hacked! We advised you that in order for your site to be secure and to use our products you needed to upgrade to Joomla! 1.5.12 (The latest available at the time) and we could do that for you for our standard fee. The fee was for additional services (Joomla Upgrade) and NOT post sales support which has always been FREE!
Also you add in your review that your problem was not even our fault :-) so you not only received FREE after sales support you received FREE support for a problem that was not even our code's fault :-) :-)

I've downloaded and used most all of the form components, modules, plugins for Joomla 1.5. Phil Taylor's Forms for Joomla 1.5.x are by far the most powerful, the most flexible, easiest to use and professional. I don't think Mr. Taylor has taken more than a few hours to respond and often it is within minutes. In this case, "Free" is way too expensive to mess around with second best. I purchased a second subscription after using it because I felt guilty for the cost benefit ratio.

STOP! If you are looking for a form extension your search is OVER! I have downloaded, installed and configured numerous Joomla extensions over the past year or so and by far this is the BEST extension I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Installation is incredibly easy. Obviously a great deal of thought went into the creation of this extension. Usually I search for only FREE extensions but this is definitely the best purchase I have made for 2009! I have bookmarked Phil Taylor's website and will definitely check out what he has to offer before I spend hours searching for an extension.

Phil Taylor's scripts are great until you run into a problem. Expect huge delays in their ticket replies and hopefully you will get an answer to your problem.

Simply not true - as many people who have reviewed here have testified, we offer as fast a support service as we can with many people receiving immediate replies. We did move house a few weeks ago and did fall behind, a fact we clearly communicated in our blog - but we are caught up with ZERO pending support requests for this product.

Easy to Install, Even easy to create a Form, and as much customization of the visual form, submission processing and fantastic spam filtering. I cannot find fault, with excellent support, and knowing the developer a nice guy to boot!

Having played around with several forms components, I settled quickly upon this one as it does everything I need with minimum fuss. It's very easy to get a simple form going out-of-the-box with a point and click interface, but it really comes into its own when you want to do something more interesting (GPG-encrypt all your submissions, perform numerous checks and transformations upon your input etc etc).
Very well supported by the author too. I had a problem with GPG deployment on my hosted server and Phil quickly (within 10 minutes!!) altered the component for me so that it worked flawlessly on my server.
Great value for money. Don't bother looking elsewhere in my opinion!
