Russian language added (thanks to Vladimir)
New version v1.2.1 (March 24, 2010)
This patch-release fixes some minor bugs.
New version v1.2 (Feb 4, 2010)
Displays poll form and results (bar chart) in the same place at the same time! This all-in-one extension replaces both the standard Joomla! poll module and the frontend part of the Joomla! poll component. This module can be up-and-running on any Joomla! 1.5 website in just a few clicks. The html output is good-looking, tableless, xhtml-compliant and easily customizable.
What's new in v1.2?
- Module duplication is now possible within the same page
- Some basic css properties (style sheet) can now be set in the module admin
- User can create its own custom style sheet by copy-paste-chang-ing the original style sheet
- Template overriding is now possible
- Full Joomla 1.5 MVC-compliant
- Italian translation by centrostudivallese.org
What's new in v1.1?
- New poll options xhtml simple and robust
- Form and results can now be displayed together or separated
- Configurable maximum bar width unit (% vs px, 50% by default)
- Module duplication is now possible on different pages (Itemid)
- Module parameters splitted into three groups (module, advanced and other)
Some minor bugs have been fixed.
What's new in v1.0 Beta for Joomla 1.5?
- Poll ID can now be easily and transparently configured in the back-end (poll admin/drop-down list)
- Vote can be restricted to connected users only
What's new in v2.0 for Joomla 1.0?
- Client-server communication (vote) can be set either to synchroneous or asynchroneous (ajax)
- Poll ID can now be easily and transparently configured in the front-end (poll form)
- Embedded style sheet is now automatically included in the head part of the html page
- Multiple votes can be either allowed or prohibited
- Poll bar image can be set from the module administration and webmasters can also define their own (custom) poll bar image
- and more...
I have gone trough most of Joomla non-commercial polls and have not yet found one that works according to my demands. My demands are, that it should work (some poll comp/mod just do not work proper). Vote and result inside module. One vote per user.
This module works well and is fast. It fully uses template design and looks real nice. Both vote and result is displayed inside the module area. In order to limit number of votes to, one per user and question, I have set time between polls to 360 days (31104000 sec.), but this was not taken into account by the module. With the possibility to limit the number of votes per user to one per question, this module would get 5 stars.
The author even responded to my question within hours, on the issue that didn't directly relate to his module. But I got an answer nonetheless.
The number of seconds between two votes is set by the Lag parameter in the poll component. The default value is 86400 seconds, i.e. 1 day! It's up to you to increase this value if necessary. Hope this helps ;-)
HTML validator shows errors at my page.
Ok, these xhtml errors are caused by the literal ampersands in the dynamic style sheet link (head part). This problem has no functional impact on the module. It will be solved in the next patch-release. Thanks for your report.
Altough, I have one suggestion to make it better. I don't want to let the users vote twice for the same poll on my site. There is no registration on my site's frontend (only in the forum), but I would like to exclude double-votes. So a function for this would be great :)
1. when you select what order you want your poll options in, it doesnt follow the "backend" order. when that option is selected it still follows "alphabetical" order.
2. if a user has voted and you set it to only allow one vote per user, it works, but when the session has ended and a user comes back, they are able to vote again. dunno whats wrong. i have mine set so only registered users can vote, and would be nice if you just restricted one vote per account instead of by ip if you only allow registered users to vote.
other than that it works and looks awesome!
Thank you for a poll that finally just...plain...works!
The only thing that keeps this from being 5 stars is the fact that it shows the results already. That needs to be a feature you can turn off.
Otherwise, it works great for me. Much better than the Joomla default, which navigates to a different page to show the results.
It's really unfair to blame this module for showing the results before the vote since it was designed to display poll form and results (bar chart) in the same place at the same time! (as written above). If this feature is a must-have for you, I can only advice you to use another extension or to hire a developer to integrate this feature in the module. Thanks anyway for the 4 stars ;)
When the module loads, it always loads showing the results of previous polling. In my opionion, this unduly influences the user's vote and reduces user engagement. What we really need is the option to only have the polls choices load without any poll result information. The user would then only be able to see the poll results by either submitting a vote or clicking "see results".
I would also like to see better formatting. The core Joomla poll module shows the poll options with good indentation and alignment. When I loaded Fly06, the line spacing and alignment looked "messy". Again, just my opinion.
You can choose your color for the poll so it'll pretty much match any site! As for picking the poll from the module... well that makes it MUCH easier than going into a module change settings then go to the poll page and change it there...
THIS way you have only to create the poll then choose it from the module!! NICE and easy.
This thing offers loading delays, bar length, show hits and last vote!! WOW what better way to track your poll! You can also allow a user to vote more than once and even restrict who can vote [must be logged in to vote].
All-in-all this poll module is the one I've been waiting for.. it just does it all!!!
Many thanks for an excellent Poll keep up the great work!!
Done ;)
Joomla 1.5 users (me included) wait because Fly06 Poll will be available very soon as I have been able to see the demo.
Only issue I had was having to make was having to add the related css style sheet in the head part of my template's index.php file so that the bars would show up for the poll. Frédéric was kind enough to help, and do this part for me. Further exceeding my expectations.
I would definately recommend this poll above all the other one I tried (and I tried almost all of em).
