Udja Comments Popular ComponentModulePluginLanguage

Due to a distinct lack of comments and a high demand for a comments extension for 1.6 which can provide functionality which rivals that of jComments I have created a simple but easily extended comments component+module+plugin combination.

This enables you to use the comments module with non-content frontend pages, and the content plugin for content related pages.

1.0.1 Fixes

- On some systems comments weren't deleting. Fixed.
- Email was being forced even when not selected. Fixed.
- Some German translation bugs. Fixed.

Bug fixes for 1.0 Stable

- XSS exsploit when entering website for comments
- Admin glitch where text jumped out of popup in IE7
- Bug where content auto-spammed itself
- Bug with category filter not working
- Error with development environments housing Joomla in a subdirectory

Security Release RC3

- Fixes a small XSS oversight
- Fixes category filtering for article glitch where catid=0

New Features RC2

- Added JComments import feature - this is early beta. Do not use on live websites.
- Added basic support for

and

- Change the way the data is affiliated to content to make it easier to hook into other components such as K2
- User login restrictions - can now only show comments or allow comment submissions to registered users.
- de-DE translation - Thanks Gerhard Sopolinski
- Unsubscribe link added to notification emails

New features and bugfixes in 1.0 RC1

- ReCaptcha added (this will require a reCaptcha api key)
- Fixed language bugs for en-GB
- pt-BR and se-SE native translations have been added. Thankyou Alex Castro and Kristian
- users name/email pre-populated when logged into frontend
- Content plugin created to use with articles
- Content plugin hook to display X comments on blog layouts
- auto-updater fixed (please note due to a bug in Joomla this will NOT WORK untill Joomla 1.7 stable is released - due in the next couple of weeks)
- javascript reply to other post fixed

Pre-Existing functionality list:

- Supports nested comments (replying to others comments)
- Has basic spam detection, word/ip/email/domain filtering.
- Avatar & Gravatar support
- Fully using framework, LANG/HTML are both overrideable without core-hacks.
- Uses a module for the comments so can be used with any component, not restricted to content.
- Can be ordered oldest->newest or newest->oldest
- Form position (above or below comments)
- Pagination, and customisation of per-page
- Automatic updates to component using Joomla 1.6 update section
- Extension CSS can be turned on or off.

** Currently in BETA, Please let me know of bugs you find I will fix them as quickly as possible **

As always I would love to hear from anyone about features they would like to see included.

Been using this extension for a while. At first got spammed like crazy, but switching on the spam protection fixed this great. Only issue is I can't seem to figure out how to receive emails/updates whenever comments are posted.

I was not able to delete comments that I selected on the previous 1.0stable version. I was thinking to uninstall it. But I came back to this page and found that the problems is fixed. So I downloaded 1.01stable and it is really fixed.

It is not that excellent comment plugin to me. But after having the problems fixed, I rate it very workable plugin. I am thankful that some programmer release this kind of freeware for web beginners.

Another thing I want to feedback on spam security. I do not know how to use ReCaptcha Spam protection in Options setting. Even though I enable 'Enable ReCaptcha', it does seem to be working. There is Public Key and Private Key I seemingly need to enter it manually. This should be more improved.

Its true that there are not many comment extensions yet for J 1.7. This one installs easily, and set up is quite intuitive. Its pretty basic. There is no native captcha, but re-captcha works fine.
Its not clear, if you select the option to sign up to a newsletter, how that request is handled. I guess you manually go and get the info and copy it over to your email system.
Clearly this extensions is in development, but the big problem for me is that you cannot remove the url field. It can be made required, or not, but can't be hidden. That means I'm going to be deleting links to pharmacies and who knows what. So not useable for me on that one point.
One to watch, probably.

A nice, clean and clear comment function that works well and provides a good range of optional settings. The latest 1.0 stable release is very good - installed in the blink of an eye over my earlier version and integrated with my Joomla 1.7 environment no problem. I had a few minor kinks to work out with an earlier version of this extension, and got very quick, successful fixes via the Ujacomments forum and by email from the developer. This time, no kinks, but if there were, I am confident the support would continue to be excellent.

I have tried many other comment extensions but since jComments don't support Joomla 1.6/1.7 I have chosen this one as it really worth it.
I really like the front end of it - it's clean and simple. However, needs language selection or just custom field names - that would save time editing the language files. the "force email entry" isn't working - regardless what I selected, it was still demanding to enter email address on the front end. When trying to delete one or all comments at the back end, it didn't delete them even if I was noted that the comment/s was deleted successfully. The last thing I don't understand is when you submit (or attempting to) a comment for about half of second it takes you to the top of the article where notifications are shown and then straight back to comment box (why notifications are not shown somewhere around the comment box?).
Despite that, it is a really good extension and I'm really happy I found it. It's exactly what I was looking for and if you are looking clean lightweight article commenting plugin - it's really great. And despite all the bugs that I experienced I still use it, only gonna wait for the update.

In the Comments CPanel where are listed all comments there's a "View Everything" link. Clicking on it you get more info about the comment. I particularly love the "Comment Url" link since this is the only way to see to which article the comment belongs. BUT, BUT THERE'S A BUG!
The link is badly formatted and it points you to a 404 error page. Although the article id is correct the whole link is a mess.

Could a developer correct his small bug?!

BTW, Excellent commenting system highly recommended

I can't seem to able to turn off the e-mail availability function. No matter whether I choose 'yes' or 'no', it still requires the submitters' e-mail address!! Further more, maybe it's a good thing to let this extension have its own styling availabilities. Some templates are just not made to be compatible ;) Other than that, it's a very nice extension! Keep it up!!
Owner's reply

Hey Meseko,

Sorry you've experienced an issue with the extension I haven't had any others report problems with the email validation. For future reference technical support questions should be posted on the developers website. This allows the developer to reply and help get the problem fixed.

With regards to your comment of styling, this is something that is supported. You can disable the CSS that comes with the extension through the component parameters allowing you to customise the styles through your template.

Thanks,

Andy

If you want to allow your site visitors to comment on articles, this is the extension you need.

With RC3 it allows you to specify which category or categories have comments active, in turn this allows you to keep comments off of the articles you do not need them on.

Very well done and thank you to the developer. Joomla needs to integrate this as a part of the core Joomla CMS.

Is there some configuration I need to do?

Thanks

I have just installed this component in my Joomla 1.7 magazine website. It's a pretty simple component to integrate and use. The CSS is sufficient to begin with.

But I think an approval system and a reporting system could be really helpful.

It looks good!

A few suggestions:
- Allow managing comments in admin panel (if this can't be done already; this would include amanging reports and whatnot)
- Approval system (for people who don't want to just allow comments to directly show up)
- Maybe assign moderators (if there isn't a way to do that already)
- Reporting system
- Akismet integration (along with being able to check all comments marked as spam, etc, along with marking them not as spam (ham), or marking ones not found as spam; this would also allow us to not need reCaptcha!)
- improvements on the css theme. I have to admit it doesn't look that bad to begin with, but especially the threaded part I think should be improved. You could use ideas from the disqus and JAComment themes. Their's are really nice.

Thanks for all the work on a nice system! :)

Just downloaded after trying a couple of others. I needed a comments extension for a photography website. I needed something clean and easy. This ticks the boxes. It's self contained so doesn't need an external API (except for captcha), doesn't need signing up to any other service and contains no advertising.

I like the included CSS template as it makes the form look much nicer than not selecting it.

I'd like to see something like a PDF explaining the setup and customisation process. I'd say I am somewhere between a Joomla novice and intermediate and I worked it out OK. It would be nice to see some sample CSS templates, some input field to customise it or some guidance on how to tweak the included settings. Not sure if it's a bug or just my understanding of how to tweak it but I see the title displayed at the bottom of my Category Blog view so I've hidden the title.

So far so good. I really like it. It's well worth a try.

I have tried e few different comment components for joomla 1.6 and this is by far the best and easiest to use. Plus I found it quite easy to customise the look of the comments (baring in mind I am a developer). Thanks so much!

If you are looking for a very simple 'add comment' plugin, this is for you. Goes beyond easy, all you have to do is to download and enable and that's it.Well done developer.
