Very clear configuration, works just as expected, allows adding comment system to arbitrary components with very small effort.
This component is just what one might need to have users interact with the site contents.
Hats off, Gentlemen!
Jcomments is a worthy member of my standard stuff directory. Once you have checked it out I'm sure you will feel the same.
The install was smooth and the configuration extremely well set out and commented. You will have comments running on your site within 5 minutes.
Theres no need to type in a list of category, section or article numbers. Just select from the list. To remove commenting from an article just add the {jcomments off} tag in the article.
When posting a comment you can enter text that will only be visible to registered/logged in members.
There are lots of nice touches and supporting modules. A comprehensive list of comment systems can be imported, as well as external avatar sources.
All in all this is a killer comment system looks and feels modern in both the back and front end.
All we need now is Joomla 1.6
Thanks for bringing this great component to the community under the GNU/GPL.
The only thing I will mention is the filter option which lets you "replace" certain words. If you want to filter the words "dung" and "dunghole", the order they are listed changes what happens. If "dung" is listed first then "dunghole" would display [censored]hole. The "dung" part gets censored before it reaches the "dunghole" listing and then doesn't show the whole word as being censored. Not really a problem because the bad word is gone, but with some words you could still figure out what was being said. It’s good that the system censors parts of the word (why dunghole became [censored]hole). It just means that if you want the whole word censored, then you need to put the small words at the bottom of the list and the big / compound words at the top. Very minor!
After playing with six or eight other comment add-ons to find “just the right one” - this one is awesome! Great job!
You can use regular expressions in filter because these lines passed through eregi_replace function.
First of all i want to talk about the excellent support! The developer is open to new suggestions and he is a hard worker when dealing up with bugs etc.
Now about the component it is really hard to believe that is free! It is stable as rock, it is very cool looking and it offers so many features that are taking commenting to an other level.
A big plus is that
..you can use the avatars from all the well known forum/community systems with no hacks and without to waste your time.
..members can use the "new comment" notifier to subscribe to followup messages
..and you can make it work almost to anywhere thanks to the excellent integration with many major components!
Generally there are many more to mention like AJAX, re-sizable comment area, characters counter etc etc
Installed normally!
set it up in 5 minutes
Imported the comments from yvcomment in some seconds and from that time everything is running flawless !
So this is the end of my very honest review!
5/5 and a big thank to the developer/translators and anyone who is involved with this project!
I have only a suggestion: Add support for SMF avatars through JFusion.
Thank you, developers!
