I have to note that JComments does not has any hidden links to developer's site - it has only one visible link and this link could be removed in the JComments' template. The JComments is released under GNU/GPL license and you can make modifications of the JComments' code and templates for your needs as you wish.
The link to the JComments site helps me to advertize the JComments and gives me additional motivation to improving the JComments. I have to remind that I am developing and support of the JComments since 2006 absolutely free.
I am very grateful to users who leaves the link, but if this link is unsuitable for your site - you could remove the link. In future version I am going to add an option to hide this link via JComments configuration.
If you have any extra questions regarding this link or if you want to make the donation to the JComments project you can contact me via email.
Thank you for your message and high rating! At this moment the JComments for Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.x is already in internal testing' stage. We have already installed this version on some production sites and it works fine. Also I have updated modules for Joomla 2.5 to work with Joomla 3.x. But some small changes have to be made - I am going to complete all works during a week. Stay tuned!
Thank you for your review and high rating! But seems you have some issues on your site which are not related with JComments. May be this is problems with server's configuration or with caching.
I know sites with JComments where about 500 000 comments. And I have copies of databases of some these sites for tests. Before releasing of new JComments version I make performance tests with these databases. Also I have two old users who uses (and tests all new versions) JComments since 2006. At this moment on the first website we have 35 000 comments (not too much for 7 years) and the second one has 85 000 comments. And they have not any problems with performance.
In my mind 10 000 comments is not such big number of comments to get performance problems. Besides the last JComments version has alot improvements and optimizations and it more lightweight and fast than previous versions.
So if you have got issues with performance - contact me via email (you can find it easily in JComments manifest or code) and I will try to help you.
Many thanks developers!
I need this application that is compatible with joomla 3.0
The JComments for Joomla 3.x will be released soon. I'm working hard on this version - this version will be not just compatible with 3.x, it will be fully reworked for Joomla 3.x without any legacy code for J1.5 or less. It will increase speed and performance of the JComments. Stay tuned.
Combined JComment with a social media plugin works perfect for me.
So back to jcomments then.
Now all these years later, I am disappointed to see that jcomments has not made much improvements to build on its initial good design. It is a solid commenting system but it has failed to update to a more social era.
One example of this: importing from Disqus is a feature that has been requested since 2009, but has been left unadressed and posts about it are just ignored on the developer's forum. For me this is a game breaker obviously, in terms of my own system, but also because it illustrate a lack of development.
So yes, jcomment is good but it only does the bare minimum, which was great for Joomla!1.0 but is no longer enough.
a/ Its "tree" display (very clean).
b/ its immediate compatibility with many "content article" components.
c/ the possibility to import previous comments already existing on my website.
In conclusion, I switched very quickly an existing site with comments to a new comments display, clean and beautiful.
On top the comments are in my website ... no need to use an external platform like Disqus, Intensedebate, or else. The users do not need to subscribe another service to place comments.
