If I could get this extension to work, it would be perfect for my needs. It's a really well-structured quiz module allowing a lot of flexibility. I particularly like the fact that questions are created using TinyMCE and can therefore really easily include images. It all works absolutely brilliantly, until you test your quiz. The "public" quizzes, which should be accessible to all guests on the site, come up with a message saying "you are not granted access to this quiz". I spent two hours today trying to find a solution to this problem.

The support forum has several open threads by people reporting the same bug, none of them are answered and most are a year old or more :( One thread did have a patch file added as a reply, but the patch did nothing for me.

The installation documentation is quite hard to follow because there are some broken links as you follow the tutorial, and some pages open up in French even though you started out in English. I speak French so that wasn't too much of a problem, and by backtracking and finding alternative links I was able to get to those which had been broken on other links, but all in all it was a hard slog to get through the tutorial.

There are two bad spelling mistakes on the core text files "automaticaly" and "which" instead of "wish". I searched for about an hour before finding the file where the text is located (it's in language/en-GB/en-GB.com_jquarks.ini, if anyone else is looking).

I'm really fed up and disappointed. This was TOTALLY the mod I was looking for and I've already spent such a long time learning how to use it and searching for solutions to the initial problems - I thought it was worth the effort. But now i see that support is not on offer for a fundamental bug - well, it is a big shame.

i have tested some quiz-components. This one in my opinion ist the best free component.
Easy install, flexible using, integrating pictures...
Only one thing: the quiz-user must give his name an his email-adress, better there would an option to deactivate this for anonymous user...

I have two problems with this addon:
- no Unicode support. I install all, and test with module. My hungarian characters in answers was coded in frontend, not displayed correctly. :-( Just check it with this: árvíztűrő tükörfúrógép.
- slide mode not worked under IE9. :-( I see all questions.

Please fix these bugs, because your addon is great, but I can't use on my site.

I mean the component is very good. But I have tried every version and I could not create and save any question.

So, I would like to know how can I overcome this problem??

Hope to get some help

Thanks a lot!

The easiest thing to do with Jquarks is install it. Beyond that I have had nothing but headaches with it. Pagination does not work. I needed one question per page. Even if I put 3 or 4 questions on a page all the "next page" link would do is take me back to the top of the page. Here's the thing. I had 10 questions in my quiz after every 4th question I got next page.

The component it self was easy enough to install and there isn't much to configure, so that's nice. But after a week of trying I give up and won't be using this component.

Out of the box, JQuarks appears to offer everything I needed to add a quick quiz to a client's site. Unfortunately, the most basic operation, (saving a question to add to the quiz,) is impossible. I can not review the product any further.
The forums at the developer's site have several bug reports detailing this issue, but there are no solutions offered other than 'use a different browser'.
So, after trying IE7, IE8, Chrome, FireFox, Opera and Safari I gave up.
Interestingly enough, I've received an email from my posting on the developer's from another user asking if I've resolved the issue.

To be honest, this component does most thing I need for a quiz component. Easy to use, good demo, well-designed(used with your default joomla template), the result is shown after finishing the quizz. You can choose between pagination or not, time limit or not. Developers deserves 5 stars for this component.

Dear Ashiyr,

Thank your for downloading and testing JQuarks and we apologize for the encountered issue.

You probably haven't unzipped the downloaded file. Since JQuarks includes a component, 2 plugins and a module, you have to unzip the downloaded. Then you need to install each of them and publish the 2 plugins and the module. This should immediately resolve your issue.

These two links would probably be in help:

1. JQuarks installation guide: http://www.iptechinside.com/labs/wiki/jquarks/Installation_Guide
2. Similar question raised by a JQuarks user: http://www.iptechinside.com/labs/boards/5/topics/show/361

Hope it helps and make you review your rating :)

Thanks again,

Best Regards,

JQuarks Team

This component installed flawlessly and works great. One problem though. When I tried to add an additional question to a section, it placed an identical named section at the bottom of the survey with that single question in it so I had to recreate the entire survey from scratch. Other than that, it is a great component. Just get all your questions in the right section the first time.

It'a very good job. Compliments. But it's a pity that the quiz can only be assigned to Joomla useers and it's not extended to all registered users.
Waiting for the upgrade.

Hi JQuarker!

Thank you for using JQuarks and for the review.

We can't really see the difference between the indicated types of users. Quizzes could be definitely assigned to registered users, you can test this on the demo site: http://www.jquarks.org/demo/

Besides, we highly encourage you to ask any JQuarks-related question on the dedicated forum:

Thanks again,

This is a tremendous component! We've used it on 18 different quizzes and am anxiously awaiting the update so that it will be self-grading and we can delete the ones taken. One thing which would be nice and may be included would be the ability to enable all to take quizzes at one time. If you want to see it in action, go to www.yaim.org, register and go to the Bible Course, there is a quiz following each lesson. Thanks for a tremendous component! (Oh, I might add that I am NOT a pro and was able to learn this quite easily!)

Very nice component especially the option to limit the time for answering and to communicate with the users by email.

I do not give 5 stars because the backend is quite complex, for example its hard for me to see why we need "set of questions" and "quizzes", what is the difference ? And to assign quizzes to users seems to me a kind of overkill - honestly the older version 0.2.2 looked better to me.
Anyhow thanks for the good work, maybe in future the project will go in the direction of simplification again ? thank you !
Owner's reply

Dear Daniel,

Thank you so much for your review.

We admit that through versions, JQuarks administration is getting more and more configuration work. Besides, this is required since it's providing more features that naturally need to be configured. We could imagine in future releases a default configuration which is preset when creating a quiz, and customization depend on users' willingness to go deeper with JQuarks.

On the other hand, "set of questions" are created to make easy to compose a quiz: An administrator creates several sets of questions, but when creating a quiz, he have just to select question families to include in the test.

Here a simple use case: we are assessing a job candidate, and we are going to test his skills in computer programming, so we will make him take three quizzes: 1. logical reasoning questions 2. PHP questions 3. SQL questions. Besides, to be relevant, the test should be adapted to the technical level of the candidate, then, the recruiter will pick the right set(s) of questions: "PHP - Intermediate" and "PHP - Advanced" for example. Same for Logical questions and Quiz (to avoid taking two PHP quizzes, this way, the candidate will only take the quiz resulting of the two set of questions merge).

Hope the utility of set of questions is more clear this way. If not, I highly encourage you to engage discussions on JQuarks forum: http://www.iptechinside.com/labs/projects/jquarks/boards

Thanks again,

Best Regards,

This is not easy to see all the places you need to click in order to have a simple question published but after you make all the clicks.. its easy to use, create new Quiz and reuse questions.
Great for those who just want a quiz in minutes.

It's a good quizz component, but the term survey is misleading. You can't do proper surveys with this.
Still I gave it a 4/5 rating because as a quizz component, this is easy to work with. You can write php too, which makes it quite powerful.
