Report

MovableType XML-RPC Plugin helped me develop Joomla based web sites for customers who wanted to post content from Nokia phones. It works seamlessly with Wavelog mobile blogging client.
That is the right solution for small newspapers (community, university, etc.) that want to deploy citizen journalism approach to reduce the time to publish while preserving independence from content aggregation and use Joomla's flexibility!

This extension is a must and should be incorporated to joomla.
It works fine with Bleezer and Windows Live Writer for posting blog entries. Image uploading is handled fine as well.

The only feature that seems to be missing is retrieving previous posts (which can be handy to quote or update old postings).

Keep up the good work!

P.S. I've looked at the source a few times and I dare say the lack of comments is somewhat not handy ;) Also it looks like there is some legacy code from the original module present.

I used this plugin before using 1.0.13 and it worked fine back then too. One thing I noticed with the newer version over the other is that the direct picture posting in 1.0.15 and this current version don't work. But no problem for I simply created an FTP upload to get my images up.

For those who find the install instructions cryptic. Here is what I did.
1. Download and unzip the package.
2. Use Joomla : Installer : Mambot to load the movabletype_2.00_forenglish file.
3. Then I use Core FTP program to copy the xmlrpc folder after it too is unzipped into my main joomla directory.
4. I install the Fronpage mambot also so all new entries get copied to fron page. It is easy to set up.
5 I tested with LiveWRiter, Flock, and Zoundry and it worked fine on all.

Use the settings of Moveable Type of Custom moveable type
Use your url for the first entry ie http://myweb.com

Use http://myweb.com/xmlrpc/index.php for the second and away you go. You will get some error messages about it can't determine the type. Just ignore them.

On 1.0.15 when you set up the FTP make sure on the uri that you specify the images directory correctly i.e. http://myweb.com/images/stories and all works fine.

IN all this makes writing articles a pleasure and much faster. I also reccomend using Zoundary and installing it on a a zip drive. Then you can write when you get the chance and upload all at once.

The whole site is in Japanese. This sounds like a module I'd very much like to use, but I'm not totally sure it is what I think it is, as the English is not so good and I don't understand Japanese.

I downloaded the Joomla 1.0.15 version and there are two .zip files in it - one of which doesn't get recognized as a Mambot, a Module, or a Component. Since the publisher didn't use any convention to denote what it's supposed to be, I had to try each one only to find that it doesn't work as any of them - I have no choice but to assume the package is broken.

Apparently there's some files I have to overwrite, but I'm not totally sure which ones and what folder they're in.

I'm sure this has great potential, but it doesn't work for me.

I also wanted to use the blogging feature of Flock to post to my website that uses Joomla 1.0.13 but unfortunately try as I might I was unable to get it to work.

I was also frustrated by the lack of documentation. From what I understand the extension .zip file comes with 2 files, one of which you have to manually unzip on your server, the other you have to install as a mambot. Unfortunately it didn't say so anywhere I could find.

It doesn't work for me unfortunately.

I did everything the first reviewer did, also using Flock, and I keep getting errors.

I tried creating a new author account, didn't work. I would ask at the extension's homepage, but it is in another language.
I wanted to try the blogging feature of Flock browser, on my site with Joomla 1.5. Just installed this plugin, configured flock (pointing to /xmlrpc/index.php), and I was easily able to publish my post from Flock!

Very great!!

The new version 2.0 (for j!1.0) fixes very many bugs and adds a great functionality (categories)
but it seems that it has lost upload image functionality :( it doesn't work more, only ftp. (I'm using Windows Live Writer and Joomla 1.0.15)
Owner's reply

Thank you for use this.

With version 2.0, the format of the parameter is changed.
Please input the file type in Comma Separated Value.
This parameter changed from "|" Seperated to Comma Separated Value.
(e.g, jpg|png|gif to jpg,png,gif)
In addition, please do not input the first slash into Storage Path.
(e.g, images/stories/)

Thank you so much for creating this I have only tested with Windows liver writer and 1.0.13 and works as promised.
Just tested using Joomla 1.5 rc4 and with Windows Live Writer and really amazing. Lets you fully format and add pictures in the editor, resize those images to thumbnail size and post to my web site without having to log in. With the added plugin from joomler.net GreyBox Show all my images come up in GreyBox.

This alone makes we switch a 1000 + member site over to Joomla.

The support questions I posted at joomler.net where quickly answered and great support.

Absolutely fabulous!
At least, Joomla have way to remotely post, not login in to admin panel.
Save MUCH time!
Some problems - you cannot post directly to front page via xml-rpc and you cannot have "preview part of post and full post"...this make me sad...
Owner's reply

Please use this to frontpage.
