ThumbsUp Latest News Popular Module

Thumbsup module displays article list with thumbnails. The first image in the article is transformed in a thumbnail image with the given parameters for each module. You can vary the image size, the crop ratio (1:1, 3:4, 16:9, etc...) the thumbnail alignment and so on. Look at the examples at the bottom of the demo page.

Report

This is one great extension indeed.

However, instead of squeezing two different layouts (horizontal/vertical) inside a single template file, I'd prefer having the option to create my own template files and select them from within the module parameters.

Hi,

I'm having trouble getting the appropriate menus to show up when using ThumbsUp. The module displays nicely on the front page, and when clicked the content item is displayed. But the menus associated with does not! Otherwise I'm happy with it.

Thanks,
Chris
This is a great module, I'm using it to replace the frontpage.
I needed to display images in articles on the frontpage next to the article title (normally, all articles display title above all content). After searching everywhere I found this module that does that very well.

The only thing I'm missing is the possibility of displaying section / category name of the article.

I tried this module on two sites:
- on Linux server;
- on Windows server.

The one on Linux had no problems with thumbnails...
The one on Windows got a problem - no thumbnail images...

I tried all suggestions - changed paths and rights - nothing works...

This is the one such module and respect to its developer... But it could be done easier I hope... :)

Spasibo...

Rates high on my scale. Installed without any problems and did what it was advertised to do. Do recommend that a language file be added to the module so that the names of months/days can be added. This addition would give it an Excellent +!

The concept looks great but when you have an image in your article this one appears as a link an not a thumbnail.

I contacted the support (created a ticket) but I never got an answer. Quite disappointed...

i have just installed this module, and it is working very well.

For people who have problems with thumbnails, make sure you have put the correct root path of your site, for example:

home/joomla/public_html/

this works for me.
Using 1.4RC1 and Joomla! 1.5.14:

This module is working on two of my sites. On one I am using it four times on the front page for different sections and the other as a replacement latest news module.

Everything displays well as I have removed the vertical align, hspace and vspace which is hard coded in helper.php, floated the image left and styled by changing the css.

I hope that moving to css rather than the html styling will be included in the final release

Thank you!

Hils
I installed the 1.4 RC1, and seem to come up against the same image issues which everyone else is having.
So just out of curiosity, I un-installed that and installed the 1.3 stable version.

The thumbnail images work perfectly on this version, in fact I am hard pressed to visually tell the difference.
So if you're having the thumbnails not displaying, use the 1.3 stable version.

Will keep tweaking the config to fit our site better but it's certainly an excellent start. Thanks

Very good extension. I'm using as a main component for a newsroom and it works perfectly. For those that are having images issues, make sure the default path to your images is correct...at first it didn't work for me, but once I found that the path was wrong I corrected and it worked perfectly.

Bravo to the author of this extension - nice work!
Using it to customize my last updated and newly added.

Works great, display is fully customizable.
Excellent easy tool... if you are using default image insert with Joomla.

When using PhocaGallery a thumbnail isn't displayed instead it loads a default image.

Would be nice to see support for 3rd-party image plugins/modules. Works great otherwise!

It looks like its a very great extension, if only one can make it work. The issue is that thumbnails dont display on home page, but they do display when you open the particular article. In my case i have several instances of joomla so the image is being fetched in the root. When i try hard coding the path i get issues like cache cant be written. Even the option of defining the path in the module parameters doesn't solve this.

I do believe if these issues are addressed it might be a great extension.

Great module with LOTS of options. It adds a lot to our site. Further customizable with CSS.

Hope to see more modules from this developer!

Fantastic Module!
I would like to thank you for such a great module, I had the chance to work with it and it is incredible flexible.

Any chance to have it with lists and no tables? (Accesibility reasons)

Thanks from Latin America...

Great extension, lot of options which allow you to use this extensions for news like: Featured, last, most read (popular).
I had just weird problem when resizing from standard square thumbnail to bigger panoramic format with unpredictable result in dimensions but finaly coud sorted it out.
Great work so far.

This is an very good component overall. I downloaded 1.4RC1.1, dated 8th April 2009, which gives a neat and tidy display of articles from sections and categories determined by me. Being able to display from multiple sections/ categories is especially useful.

I have just one quibble with it; while it gives me what I want, it does however not show images properly. It only displays the image filename in a box.
