Amplify Fading News Ticker Module
A similar fading mootools driven news ticker as is used on the apple dot com website.
A simple free horizontal fading news ticker module designed to fade article titles nicely from one to the next. The Amplify News Ticker Module features include: Mootools Driven, Adjustable Pretext, Adjustable Pretext Box Length, Adjustable Article Title Box Length, Choose Number of items to show, Choose which Section to pull items in from, Choose which Category to pull items in from, Adjustable default message when no items are available, Module Suffix Box for custom module styling, Module CSS sheet.
Had to apply the fix to default.php as suggested by jpcabrales - thanks!
I have one question for the developers:
When I duplicate the module and have 2 versions running on the same page, only one of them rotates the articles, while the other just displays the first article. Is there a way to have 2 tickers running on the same page? I'm using FF3.
Thanks.
Hello, thanks for your message. We have not ever tested running two modules, it may be a script conflict issue.
We are working on next version, so will test out fully to try to help you out.
Regards, Amplify.
-Opera&Firefox 3 does not place links the new one over the old one (as IE&Safari does) but new after old. Some other people decribed this problem below better than me. May be it is because I use mootools also for another module on page. Amplify's homepage demo wirks fine in FF3.
-Cannot disable label. It still shows the separator between (empty) label and content area of ticker. Try to set empty label text, set Label Width = 0 and look at left side of ticker.
-I also found some problems with background color, but this may be caused by some bug in my CSS's. It was funny: IE&SAFARI=white background+white text, but on Opera&FF3=black bckgnd+white text. Anyway, my other modules work fine.
That's why I had to say goodbye to this module. Hope this helps developers to improve this really interesting module.
Thanks for pointing these things out. We will be releasing a new version with full transparent images, colour choices and other extended options. For now a white background works best for this module.
With regards to your other issues, there may be conflicts with different template css, it is very hard to cater for all environments and scripts/css running on them. Your feedback is useful though to help us to improve this module, thanks.

But on Mozilla Firefox 3, the title of the next item appears just after the end of where the previous article has been.
I had to add style="position:absolute;" on line 24 of default.php to achieve the desired results, like IE7's.
Other than that, the extension works great and doesn't take any time at all to figure out how to use it.
Hi, thanks for highlighting this issue since FF3 has been out, we have included this fix in now in v.1.3.
Regards, Amplify
Absolutly does what it says on the tin it's a very good example of intutive design in the backend where everything is as expected.
I only notice an overlapping problem with firefox. After the first loop news fading-in/out tend to loose sync, so you can see two or more news toghether.
Hello, this will be a conflict with some other scripts (modules etc) running javascript on your site. If you use the default 1.5 install and template, you will see it works fine on all available versions of Firefox, including FF3.
Hope this helps.
this is one of my favorite modules.
just some suggestions for improvement (didn't find a forum to post them): articles are shown although they were deleted, not activated and even if publishing time is over. and if you choose a section and category with no articles in it, the default message won't be shown.
Hello, Module has been updated to address the unpublished issues, default message issue will be fixed today also.
Thanks for your feedback. Amplify.
This is a simple module, but important for my clan website.
Hello, Thank you for your comments, please note that as of today we have adjusted the module so it only picks up the latest items in sections and categories, to the number of your choice.
New Download now available at Amplify.
This mod installed like a breeze and it works just as expected.
It really improves a sites ability to present content in a nice and effective way.
Thank you for your contribution to Joomla! and it's users - keep up the good work!
