MassMail is using Joomla core content to create newsletters. The component allows to choose different content items from different categories (one or few) and send to your customers. This approach have 3 advantages.
1. If you do not want your newsletters to be visible from the frontend, you create section and category named newsletter and save there all your letters and never create public link to browse that section
2. You finally can create public link and allow your visitors to read newsletter history as a blog
3. You can add newsletters from any section to yuor newsletter base. For example you may add to newsletters some articles from news section or only news article. Thus you do not need double your content and just send elements.
Of course it allows you
* To append and prepend text
* Set subject
* Edit dynamically formed letter text
* Set format (text/html)
* Set filters
* Set Sending parameters
As for sending flow. It may send letters by number set per time period. For example 10 letters every 10 minutes. That prevents from spam problems.

This tool could use some documentation (the folks at Joomsuite are working on it) but the forum is plenty good enough to help with the details.
The extension is easy to load, easy to use and integrates with all the Joomsuite extensions.
You have to pay for the advanced Joomsuite apps but they are all worth it. The support is overnight and great. Compliments to the gang at Joomsuite.

I really can't say much about this as after I spent a good hour or more installing all the extra components you need just to get the install working I found that I have to pay a subscription to use this. I don't mind the charge but it needs to be very obvious. For instance, don't let a user download and install the component without purchasing the license first. Being this is a non-prof site I don't have the budget to subscribe to a service. As a result I have wasted a good deal of time.
In addition, I couldn't even tell which subscription I needed to purchase for this component if I choose to. The license screen doesn't say.
