AutoArchive2 PluginLanguage

This content plugin takes automatic action when Joomla! content items reach their expiration date. It can archive, trash, or purge your expired content and can be configured to send email to anyone you want when these actions are taken including the original author. This is very useful for those that use news accumulators like feedgator on their sites. You can also configure the plugin to simply send an email to the author, admins, or both when the article expires.

This plugin was originally developed as a 1.0.x mambot and released as GPL by TeachmeJoomla and has been modified in this version to run on 1.5.x native. Note that this version will not run on 1.0.x versions.

Major features:
1. Automatically archives, deletes, trashes, or purges expired content.
2. Can optionally reset the frontpage flag when moving to an archive.
3. Republish previously unpublished or expired articles and either set a user controlled next unpublished date X days in the future or set no unpublished date. This feature is tied to moving the article to a new section/category.
4. Move an article to the archive and at the same time move it to a new section/category.
5. Optionally determine if the plugin will work on unpublished articles and/or on uncategorized articles.
6. Filter by Section and/or Category

This is a great tool to automate deletion of expired articles. But I have found that hour=1 does not work. Somehow it will still default to one day.

I am a little confused by your statement that "hour=1" does not work as there is no setting in AutoArchive2 to set hours for any purpose. Perhaps you can post on the support forum what you mean?

Perfect for the job ads on our site. 'Does what it says on the tin' with minimal fuss and set up time required! Great work

A good case could be made that auto archiving should be in core Joomla, but it isn't. In any case, auto archiving should be a simple process, and this extension seems to do the job quietly and efficiently. Installation was simple, I set a couple of parameters and -- presto -- auto archiving is working.

To test whether the database scan slowed down response time, I deliberately set the parameters to archive everything at once and to scan every time a user hit the site. (In this case, "everything" was perhaps 20 expired articles.) Not a very scientific test, but I couldn't detect any difference in the speed with which pages popped up. Perhaps performance would be an issue on a large site with lots of users and many expired articles -- I have no evidence either way -- but in our case it is a non-issue.

Thanks to the developer for a nice piece of work!

I used this plugin back in the day and it was very handy. Now, I have a new Joomla site and was out looking for this plugin again. It is so simple yet so very, very handy. All I need is some way to have date-expired articled get archived automatically. This plugin does it beautifully. As long as you set a date expiration on an article, it will magically get archived when it expires.

Excellent component. I was planning to write such a plugin, but this one is even better. I use it to automatically retrieve archived articles with a hack, and the author promised to include a feature in the next release. (have modified the plugin to accomodate category and section change support. If selected, the expired articles will be republished under a different category and section. (The archive category). )

Thank you so much.
