Place Here module Popular Module

("Place here" was suggested by a user as name for the 1.5 version of the previous "content item module" for J! 1.0.x).

A module to show Articles in module positions. Some options might be mutually exclusive. The module offers different templates and not every parameter is supported by every template. Tag support only works for the Tag module from http://www.joomlatags.org/

Some documentation is here: http://diebesteallerzeiten.de/blog/category/manual/, but when in doubt post a comment or write an e-mail (some people won't listen to what I say, though; I cannot help those).

Download Links are in the sidebar of my homepage ("Module for 1.5" or ""Content Item Module" for the 1.0.x version).

It rocks. I got my category items in blog layout in seconds in a module. Thanks !

Very, very nice job. Kudos to you my friend. Keep up the good work.

I had a very simple need. Allow my customers the freedom to admin left and right module/column content via the frontend editor.

I have been running into the same stumbling block with customers and decided to address this issue as it was mentally taxing, time consuming and was leading to an overall negative experience for both the customers and myself.

For me this "Place Here Module" was a breath of fresh air as I tried others that just didn't work as advertised. As well there was no need for the cryptic "{article}{/article}" type syntax. With this your given an amazing menu to choose from. Imagine that.. ;p

I recreated existing custom module content into articles. Loaded up the "Place Here Module", configured the options like any other module has on the left part of the page. Then on the right part of the module configuration page were all the Article options. Gave it the article id, module suffix, and turned on and off other options as needed. Saved... and WhaLa!!!!

Logged into the frontend of the site with my customers credentials and to my amazement they can now edit the module content to their hearts desire.

Keep in mind, this module has tons more options than what I used it for, but thankfully it was intuitive, effective and simple.

No my customers can turn that frown upside down. ;p

Like many before me have said.

This is one of the smallest, easiest, most essential modules around. They should indeed add this to the default Joomla package, with your name in the credits.

Well done. Many thanks from me and my community.
Does anybody knows a way I can edit the articles of those modules via frontend, also when I'm not loading the "com_content" component?

I can edit the articles when I load the com_content module, but when I load other component like a sitemap, or the "contacts" component my place_here modules are not editables.

This makes sense since the libraries and all that stuff that allows you to edit an article are not loaded, but does anybody knows a way I can import them in the modules?
1) Extremely easy to use
2) Highly configurable
3) Runs smoothly
4) Very good documentation available

It just get the job done, fast and easy.
This module is so handy that it ought to come with Joomla out of the box!

Regarding this:
I've used it once - and it worked perfectly!
But I'm interested in such a thing: can I display an article (or a category of them) in such pop-up plugins as RokBox (or others) using your one?
Owner's reply

I think rokBox only works with the Rockettheme templates and you need a subscription for those, so I haven't tested it. If you can convince the Rockettheme guys to let me have their stuff for developement purposes then I will see if I can make it work.

Rokbox is free and works with templates other than Rockettheme's:

thanks for pointing that out ( I admit I didn't do much research on that), I'll see if I can make it work.

This is an amazing "swiss army knife" tool that give's you a TON of flexibility when doing your Joomla layouts. I install this on every Joomla site I make.
...however for a stable release it's terribly buggy. great to use if you actually want to filter out plugins from displayed articles, but if you want the plugins to display - that's where trouble starts (read more leads to home page (!)). moreover, certain configuration options lead to 404 pages, trouble with linking titles and other bugs

You are the same person who posted by the name of "owl" on my webpage, aren't you? And you did not even bother to read the documentation links I gave you.

Fair simple. Installs, sets parameters and off you go.

Thanks for the great work. Keep going.

I'm glad found this, just the job for putting something up on a page. Worked straight away and no need to refer to any extra instructions. Good Job, will definatley use again.

Excellent Module. This helped me overcome one of Joomla's annoying limitations. In order to edit modules you normally would need to be in the back end of the website. Now you can put article content into a module AND make it editable from the front end of the website.

You can't edit all modules, just those that use article content.
I need to show list of contents with the same category of the current dysplaying article. I have added the next fragment into helper.php:
if ($showbyid == 0 ) {
$query = 'SELECT catid' .
' FROM #__content' .
' WHERE id = '.(int) $curid;
$db->setQuery($query);
$showbyid = $db->loadResult();
echo 'Category ID = '.$showbyid;
}

Now I have what I want. This code works when list of IDs equal 0.

Being able to show the newest posts from multiple categories on my home page was essential to the design of my site - and this module made it all possible. Perfect.

I'm finding this very useful and it allows me to have multiple editable areas on my pages, however it would be nice to be able to define what pages it should be shown on. At the moment, you specify a module position and associated content id, so currently this displays in that module position on all pages which have that position. If one wanted to have different content for different pages they would have to define a load of module positions in their templateDetails.xml file such as page1-editable, page2-editable etc.

I wonder how easy it is to define not only what content should appear but on what content it should appear.

Anyhow great product.

This module is really useful for helping to create complex page layouts that can be controlled and edited by users.

I had to make a tiny SQL tweak before users could edit articles from the front-end, but aside from that it was straight forward to setup. Bear in mind that content displayed with this module can still appear in Joomla's search results - though whether that's a problem depends on what you're using it for.

This is perfect for what I need! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Excellent module, well written, no bugs, no errors, installs perfectly!
So far, so good. This module took away a huge headache for me that was induced by the removal in Joom 1.5 of multiple category or section selects in menu items (you could do this in Joom 1.0).

Seems to be well-engineered and considerate of CSS norms. Easy to work with and deploy.

You can duplicate the module to make multiple feeds with their own settings and content pulls - awesome!
Hi this is very simple to use. However, I noticed that if I were to use this with "module in content", then there is a problem. It works fine with one "module in content" in a page but if there is more than one then it doesnt work for the second one. Otherwise this is a fantastic tool

Excellent.
It is a really important module.
Wish you luck
