The Flash Module Popular Module

The Flash Module displays a Flash / SWF file as a module. Useful for flash headers, menus, and much more. Uses parameters to control some of the more important flash player settings including Width, Height, Window Mode and Flash Player Version. The Flash Module can also display your SWF using an external Javacript file (for IE6 and IE7) and can be used multiple times on a single page. *** New version 3.0+ provides alternate HTML display when flash not detected.

easy and simple - it worked like a charm. Maybe a bit of tutorial would encourage ppl not to be afraid to use it.

I found, downloaded, installed, and had this module working in less than five minutes. That is a new personal record for me.
Simply install, visit the module and type in the path for the .swf file. Thats it!
Thanks a million.

I tried several extensions designed to embed Flash files. A major problem I had was that the display in IE8 (and other IEs for all I know) was distorted and displaced. This module displays perfectly and identically in every browser I have tested: IE8, Chrome, Firefox, Opera & Safari. Very easy to use and very reliable. Alan Anderson, Belgium.

After nearly two days of trying to get my external flash header slideshow integrated without overlapping my mainmenue: I finally made it with your easy to set up module.
I copied the files to images/flash with all the external assets in folders and.. it worked right away. Thank you!

I downloaded this mod to be able to insert SWFs where I want to in my site. Installing was easy and my SWF appeared where I intended it to.

Technical note: My SWF loads external assets, but putting the assets in the same folder as the SWF doesn't work. Atypically, the external assets need to go in the root directory. After trying to place the assets in different areas (e.g. templates, etc) I found the root directory is where these assets need to be for the SWF to find them. Also, in response to some other posts, you have to create the folder to put your SWFs and then ensure your file path matches up in the settings.

For someone learning Joomla (having completed about 6 sites) I find this extension to be a vital extension for all of my sites. I plan on using this often.

I downloaded this with some feelings of caution - given some of the reviews here. This has got to be one of the easiest, quickest and most trouble-free installs I've ever done.

If it took 10 mins from download to swf movie playing on the site I'd be surprised. Yes, you've got to type the path in and type in the file name - but it's not something you're not used to doing anyway, if you're creating different directories and paths for images, documents etc.

Thank you Michael Carico.

I am brand-new to Joomla! and I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to make my flash banner work on a template I am using. I found this and uploaded it to my site and it worked excellently and in no time. As users before have mentioned, you have to take care to add the .swf file extension to make it work. I am very grateful and happy - thank you!!!

The module works fine! But yeah the filepath :)
File path: default is "images/flash" in youre joomla folder. But the module doesnt make a folder by default so you have to make a folder called flash in youre joomla/images directory if you want default path to work.
Filename:the file name that is located in youre images/flash folder and add .swf too like "myfile.swf" because it doesnt work without it.
Thats what made my module work.

Well done those who got this to work, I couldn't. I don't know what the magic filepath parameter is either. I tried all the owner suggests but still couldn't get it to work!

The Module installed very easily and it is simple enough to use, but my .swf flash banner does not display on my page I selected. Anyone give advice or point me in the right direction. My site is not live yet and I am viewing it on localhost "Wamp" server.

I have the same problem with a flash header that I created. Keeps telling me that I need you newer version of flash, but I have installed various versions of flash and it doesn't work. Please help this apprentice...

Let's see, where do I begin? How about, absolutely NO documentation? Other than that, this is by far the most difficult to get to work extension that I have ever downloaded (I never got it to work). Good thing it's free, or else I think he'd be inundated with refund requests.

To those of you who supposedly got it to work, good for you. For those of you who didn't, I feel your frustration, especially after the hours I have spent trying to get this to work, reading forum postings, etc. Deleted from my plugin folder!
Owner's reply

Sorry you are having so much trouble. The module options are actually self-documented using tooltips like most Joomla! modules (i.e. if you hover over the option title, it will tell you what it does).

Most of time I have found that the problem is with the path parameter entered by the user. Your path may need to be an absolute path (as opposed to a relative path) depending on your website's set-up and location. The module does not do this for you but relies on the user's knowledge of their website's set-up to make that determination. Usually a simple review of your website's code (viewing the generated HTML in a browser) will show if the path is indeed the problem.

I like the Flash Module, because it is a simple way to include a flash movie in a Joomla website. My only concern is that the website DOES NOT validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Any workarounds?

Working super, it can embed external flash. Normal install, no problems. Easy to define width and height of the flash. I did use it for one weather flash.
Thank you.
