This update manager provides the ability for you to easily and effectively keep up to date with the latest release of Joomla!. It supports the ability to use cURL or PHP wrappers to download files with both supporting the use of proxies to handle downloads on networks where direct internet access may not be available. The tool also provides support for using FTP mode on sites with Joomla!'s 1.5 extractor or a back ported copy of the new Joomla! 1.6 extractor libraries. There is support for manually uploading packages to the site and using this local version and the extension has the ability to update itself and can be prevented from installing an update if the version of the component may not handle the update correctly.
Best of all, this extension is completely free!
Note: This extensions requires PHP5 and will not work on PHP4.
Using Update Manager for maybe a couple of years on different Joomla 1.5 websites.
Great component that perfectly does its job with no fuss.
e.g. just updated a couple of websites from 1.5.23 to 1.5.24 in 2 minutes.
Only surprise I've had is that from time to time I need to run it twice for the update to be done.

This component is exactly what ALL components for joomla should be. Easy to use, zero problems!
I updated manually a couple of my sites before and it was always a time consuming process.

I am so greatful to the developers for this brilliant component. I am no Joomla expert and was dreading having to upgrade my site. I installed this and it took me less than a minute to upgrade to the latest version of 1.5. Thank you
Perfect. What was looking like a long task with moments of frustration took less than 1 minute. I got one error message at the start, very clearly documented. Went to the developers site and there was the fix (it was just a simple file definition I needed to do on my side and not anything related to the developer's product). Then BAM! the upgrade was done and I am back making progress.
Wished I'd found this earlier. Seamless and perfect installation and execution. Patched from 1.5.15 to 1.5.23 in less than a minute with all our components and plugins working as they should.

Thanks Sam for this extension! It works great to keep Joomla websites up-to-date. I use it for my clients websites, and with the template override system, it is very easy to keep them secure and safe. Of course, this does not prevent to update a copy/test of the website before the live production one! But still, it makes developers' and designers' life easier.

Great! Just great! I was scared to start the update from 1.5.15 to 1.5.22, made backups and tried the manual method with FTP on a copy-website. It took me 2 hours! Then I found this little helper. Istalled it and upgraded my online website within 5 sec!!! It works fine - no issues - no problems at all! Easy and very smooth!!! Great extension!

I used this to upgrade from Joomla 1.5.15 to 1.5.22. It did everything for me. All I had to do was mouse click where the program told me to. Simple, easy, and it worked like a charm. It took less than 5 minutes and I was dreading doing the upgrade in the first place. Thank you for making it so simple.
