Suckerfish-style menu jQuery plugin
that takes an existing pure CSS
drop-down menu (so it degrades
gracefully without JavaScript) and adds
many features."
I took Superfish and combined it with a
menu module to easily create and
manipulate dropdown menus. Comes with
many configuration options such as
shadows, arrows, vertical menu,
horizontal menu, navbar menu, iframe
for IE6 use, fade in, slide in, fade
and slide in, opacity, intelligent
mouseover handling, and more.

Disclaimer:
If you plan on using this module, you should be comfortable editing css. It would also help to be familiar with Superfish, but not required. This module simply combines superfish with the main menu and automates the setup configuration. It is intended for developers who know their way around code. If you are a novice and need a highly customized look to the menu, this one may not be for you.
I will no longer be offering support for this module. 99.9% of the issues are css related and are site-specific and unrelated to the actual inner workings of the module. Unfortunately I do not have the time or financial resources to offer constant support. If you have problems, your template css is probably overriding your superfish css.
This is one of the best extensions on the JED. I just realized today that it's been two years since it's been updated and that's just because this extension is perfect and doesn't need any patching or corrections.
I will admit for anyone who doesn't know how to read or write css real well, you better take your time with it, read a couple books to freshen up or hire someone. I've been working with this module for something like 2 1/2 years and love it when I need a Navigation module that I can override quick and easy. I only use this and one other that I bought because it was that good and I still can't make it do half of what I can with this one.
5 Stars all the way. This is always one of the first extensions I install right after my admin layout template. Plus it's fun to work with the code for this extension to see just what kind of crazy things you can make it do.

I installed this menu on a couple of websites, and I find it quite nice and simple to install. I'm quite satisfied with this menu, but I cannot give it more than 3 stars because:
- I find it quite heavy, though it works pretty well in all major browsers. I like the resizing of items to an equal lenght.
- Top problem: it conflicts with other jquery scripts, and I'm surely not going to give up with other stuff just for a menu...And I'm not talking about some unknown young extensions, but K2 items, image sliders, and so on...As soon as they are activated, this menu falls back to its minimum width and for the heck of me I couldn't find a solution for this. I enabled all anti-conflicts params but they just don't work.
All in all, a good product, but as stated by other users before me, it's nonsense you have to go ask a css forum or a jquery forum if YOUR product does wrong, imho.

If I give this a bad score its because of documentation and support. The web site offers precious little for the unitiated. Documentation is very poor, support is worse. For the latter you are given a re-direct to j-query site where if you look at the results you get for a "superfish" search you'll see questions go unanswered as a rule. I looked at about 10-12 no one got as much as 1 answer. That said, I'm sure that if I could get this to work it would be nice, I've seen good examples.
Delighted to find a simple easy menu module with multi-level accordion style for my vertical menu. Thank you!!
Really liked the ease of styling, works straight out of the box and supports image links like Joomla's core menu module.
Superb module!
Superb module!
i wanted to create multiple instances of vertical & horizontal menus but when i change 1 from horizontal to vertical it changes all instances of this module ... any way to fix it ... only thing i have not done is turn off jquery on the new instances besides the 1st.
The menu has a problem when adding more than 5 subcategories. At least I did face that problem..
I loved the look and functionality of the menus created with Superfish however it had a few bugs that I was unable to solve:
1) Adding new menu items casued my site to go blank. (changing to a different menu system solved the problem)
2) Added menu items order could not be changed. I added a new menu item and no matter what order it was in the menu manager it still showed up last.
3)If I click on a menu with sub menus the menus on the resulting page do not behave correctly.
I.e. on the home page the menus have the down arrows and fade in and out as designed but once the menu with subs has been clicked the resulting menus have no down arrows and the fade disappears. Also, the menus are very twitchy and cannot easily be clicked.
This occurs in IE8. The menus work fine Firefox 3.5.7 but still loses the fade and arrows feature once a sub-menu has been clicked.

this is a very nice menu system. for simple menus it works like magic. if you try and construct a more complicated menu system (sub levels, mouseover states) it can get messy and buggy.. not to mention extreem problems with IE (especially 6 and 7)including browser crashes.
also, there is no support. i posted a few items on the google group mentioned in the plugin website as well as the JQuery forum which now "supports" it but havent received even 1 reply.
thats a shame. this can bo so much better!

I've been using this module on several Joomla sites and I must say I never had an issue with it! It works out-of-the-box and the styling is fairly easy to do.
The only minor thing I came across was the previously mentioned z-index problem but I solved it as sugested by johnathanamber (thanks Johnathan!).

I have tryed many menu modules, and this was by far the best. It is really easy to install, and also really easy to configure.
So if you are looking for a nice animated javascript dropdown menu then this is a must have.
The only minor thing is, the rollover images aren't easy to configure, but putting static images is really easy.
