Virtual Domains Beta ComponentPlugin

The idea of Virtual Domains, it is, to have two or more sites with different design and partially different content and functionality, but without the necessarity to manage consistent content multiple.

This can be achieved with Joomla in combination with Virtual Domains, by defining for each website/domain a special template and specifying what menu item should be the starting point for the site.

The archive will install a component and a plugin. This will not change the Joomla! core.

Notice: Try an alternative unarchiever (m.e. 7z), if the zip-file is empty.

Notice: VD doesn't really separate the domains content. E.g. if you use the search form, you will get the stuff of all your domains. You also can't explicitly define frontpage articles for the additional domains.

This is a great plugin. Very easy to implement and it works great.

This plugin works particularly well with templates from Rockettheme, that use parameters in the template. No need to modify the index.php code at all. Everything can be done within the template manager.

I did run into some bumps in terms of how it works with sh404sef. It would be great if the developer could look into that at some point, since so many sites use that component. I ended up disabling sh404sef, which was kind of a bummer.

I also ran into some complications with maintaining login/sessions on the subdomain. Joomla core doesn't recognize the subdomain and therefore users don't remain logged in on the subdomains. I found the fix for that here:

Thanks again!

I have downloaded the beta and added to my joomla 1.5.12. I've turned allow_call_time_pass_reference On as suggested in other reviews mentioned here. The only trouble I am having is in component, virtual domain and select one of the domains is selecting the menu. It only allows me to select one.

Just what I was looking for: a plugin that let me reuse the joomla installation to set up 2 sites with similar/shared content.
Easy to use!a, maybe the allow_call_time_pass_reference set to On restriction can cause problems with some not owned servers ( not may case for now :)
Just had some problems to set as start point an Blog Category menu, don't know why. The rest works very well.
A very good plugin simple and effective ... Congratulations.
It allows you to associate a subdomain with a template and choose another menu item as the home page.
Allow_call_time_pass_reference must be enabled on your server or the plugin return a warning for version 0.1beta.
This extension is what I need. I spent a lot of time to find a solution, how can I use subdomain without new joomla istallation - and Virtual Domain Beta can do it excellent. Thank you Janguo - Danke sehr!
This is a brilliant extension - something that Joomla lacks for ever! I hope this will be developed continuously and become a core part soon!!
If the seperation of content (frontpage, search etc.) is stressed more in the future, Joomla could finally compete with Typo 3!

Developers: Support this extension! :)
