Highslide JS is a fabulous javascript thumbnail viewer written by Torstein Hønsi. It is highly configurable and its uses are limited only by your imagination.
Highslide JS for Joomla exposes all of the flexibility of Highslide JS through a clear and concise configuration screen and JCE editor dialogs. The intent is to allow anyone, regardless of their skill level, to take full advantage of all that Highslide JS has to offer while minimizing, as much as possible, the need to get down to hardcore HTML coding.
This extension is incredibly powerful and deep. A little daunting at first, but the documentation is plentiful and is thorough.
The forum is helpful and tracking down any issues that may come up.
The support from the author is outstanding. They were incredibly helpful and patient.
It may take a bit to get your head around all the features available, but once you get it up and running, it's really quite simple to implement and customize.
It works great and it looks super sharp.

I was initially confused, but after following the installation instructions found under "documentation" down to the dot I got it working.
Mind you, I use 1and1 as my hosting partner, and had to configure the php to v5 before I got this working (1and1 use php v4 as standard unless otherwise specified).
Excellent extension.

Excellent extension.
The reason this component deserves a top-rating is because it brings the full power of Highslide-JS into Joomla and also because the author gives excellent support on his forum.
Be warned: When I say "full power" I mean it, which means there are a LOT of options. This is not for the faint-of-heart or people who just want an easy setup with no effort.
But if you have no problem rolling up your sleeves and getting right into it, then nothing else that I know of will give you full control over the Highslide script inside Joomla, which means you have tons of options for not only image pop-ups and galleries, but html popups too.

I love this extension!
What I love about it:
The visual options are great. Default popup/slideshow styles are included, which helped me decide which way I wanted to go on using the designs.
There is another Joomla based Highslide extension, but Joomlanook.com was much easier to understand in my opinion.

I mean WOW what a great component!!
I already had highslide JS for joomla and thought it was great, but now that it's updated and it's Fantastic.
Easy to install, easy to set up, simple set up or complex as you perfer for each pic or for all of them.
many options you can choose from, many frames and effects. It puts spice to your site.
Thank you, Ken, for you great job.

In my mind, Highslide is the only lightbox worth using. With so many polished features such as properly pre-loading images, dynamically re-sizing large images to fit the screen, drag-ability of images, no background fading that causes the user to lose focus on the site and more...
Highslide JS for Joomla brings the wonderful world of Highslide to a GUI, with option boxes in JCE for many of the vast array of Highslide features.
There are still improvements I'd like to see, and I've found a few options work less than perfectly (I've had to fiddle with the html to get exactly what I'm looking for) but it's a great v1, and I look forward to an update and polish in v1.1

A very polished plugin to include highslide JS in Joomla. All the highslide options seem to be configurable from the configuration page. All the options have useful tool tips. Also it has a nice feature to have the css style editor in the configuration page. So you don't have to dig through the file system to find the style sheet if you want to make any style changes. It integrates very nicely with the JCE editor, including toolbar buttons for embedding images. I tried a couple of other highslide components but always seemed to have to enter raw html code to get it to work. This plugin just works, a coupe of button clicks includes the thumbnail and main image. Leave it at that or customise each image as required. The component and plugins installed cleanly. For my set up the plugin zip file wouldn't install directly, but unpacking the file and installing from a directory worked fine. The support from the author is also first rate.
