Module will generate SEF links if native SEF URLs are enabled in Joomla! configuration or you have installed SH404Sef. QCategories also works in multilingual sites managed with Joomfish.
Version 1.0.2. See changelog on the website for changes.
This is a great little extension and does everything that is requested of it except for one major flaw. It doesn't work when SEF is used. As soon as SEF is activated links will go to pages other than the ones they are supposed to. If this wasn't the case I would happily give this extension full marks but since it doesn't work as indicated it losses marks. Would love to see a fix for this as it has great potential.
Thanks for this extension - exactly what I needed.
Installed in 2 seconds, no problem, and works perfectly.

I love all the Q products - they work just fine. But... it would be really useful for QCategories to also show a category list from QContacts within a module position, not just from the main site catergories.
I'm actually a bit sad after installation, because I think this could really be the best module for this purpose but it's missing the most important option: to choose which categories from section to display. For most uses it doesn't make much sense to display all from section. I would really like to see that option in future. Just this little option and you'll have yourself an awesome module :D
Excellent Module! Very easy installation and configuration.
Component 100% recommended.

I searched high and low for something to display a list of categories with descriptions from a specific section. Something I had expected Joomla to do natively ( new to Joomla) but was wrong.
I tried EVERY other similar extension listed in the directory, but this is the one that actually worked! And worked perfectly with everything I threw at it.
It did everything I needed, and everything that the others forum questions/requests where asking for and not getting with other extensions.
tableless layouts for the blog, selection of blog or list click through choices, SEF , allowed for description tag stripping (or NOT), and even allowance for plugins ie: { } inclusions in the category description ( with the other appropriate module).
It displays to a module position which is great for a custom blog sidebar etc, or as I have used it... in conjunction with a 'module in content' module, and a little css work .. allows me to display a full page/article category navigation page for my actual site structure
Beyond this, the response from the author to questions in the forum was almost immediate, and was very helpful, even when I asked silly questions.
If you want this sort of functionality, start here.
Many many thanks.

Fantastic module, it works very well. I suggest it to build some kind of custom blog with joomla, this is very recommended because you get easyly a list of category items of a section and the item count.
Say you have a section named "blog" and inside some categories, one category for each subject of your blog (like wordpress). Well, when you publish the module, it will list "out-of-the-box" each category from your section and optionally it will count the number of items of each category.
Thank for this module!

For such a simple module you'd think something like this would have been included in Joomla itself. There is a similiar "Section" plugin with Joomla, but nothing for categories. I searched high and low for something like this, but one I found didn't even work.
This little thing works like a charm. It's good if you're creating a blog from joomla, you can have it list out your blog categories. Combine this with the jomcomment plug and you have a nice little blog on your hands.
Kudos to the author for creating something so simple yet so useful.

Excellent, plain and simple.
This shoould be native (core) joomla component/module.
There's a little bug when you edit a couple of times some module, for example if you want to change blog to list layout or vice versa, the link adds every time that option..
http://www.site.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=10:mytitle&layout=blog&Itemid=12&layout=blog
but the links are still OK, which is I guess more important than the small bug in URL.
