Staff Master 1.0 RC1 is a Joomla! 1.5.x component created to help users easily create and manage a public, front-end Staff roster section using Joomla!
This new version contains a number of improvements and a lot of new features!
Some key changes in this release:
* jQuery has been removed from the front end due to complications with Joomla's forced MooTools loading
MooTools implementation of View Details slider
* A new Page model has been implemented to help facilitate easier custom Views
* Joomla's Email.Cloak library used to hide Contact Details Email Addresses
* Import Name/Email Address from Joomla's User List. ( Community Builder importing coming soon. )
* Admin Pagination, Filtering added/fixed
* Joomla's Paths used
* Search and Content plugins to facilitate finding staff/department names in search and auto-linking in content
* sh404sef-compatible plugin downloadable from the site as well

I really like the idea around StaffMaster. The only thing stopping me from using it is when a user clicks on "View Contact Details", the details drop down, and then they're immediately transferred back to the homepage.
I see on the author's forum that others have experienced the same problem; but there seems to be no suggested fix. Even after downloading the newest version, the issue is still evident.
It'd be great to be able to set the image size without having to edit code, rather than display them full size.
Other than those two issues (and since most of my site users are IE, it's placed on the back burner for now), this is a great component.

I have been pouring over the extensions site for a solution and found Staff Master. No I am not a friend of the developer leaving positive feedback to pad the review section. I appreciate the hard work that was put into this package. The site I am developing needs to post a list of it's members by section as this is a choral group. I needed only one login so the users could view the list. I needed it to support pictures and the default contact list in Joomla is rather lame as it's a boring list of text. The installation went well and I was able to get a list going rather quickly. The popular Community Builder Plugin was bloated and would require each member to have their own sign in. There were other directory scripts but none that offered the features that Staff Master provided. Bravo on making the graphics and interface fun.

There were quite a bit of things broken with this component when I downloaded it including no thumbnail creation but considering there is nothing else out there like this I am happy I found it.
I was able to add auto thumbnail generation and integrated shadowbox into the department / all view. I added a ping pong layout for the frontend and removed the mootools slider.
All and all the work of this components author saved me a ton of work and taught me a lot.

Definition of Roster:
Noun: a list showing the order in which people are to perform a duty
Verb: to place on a roster
This software does nothing like that, it is merely a simple directory of staff that are organised into departments, don't be misled, this software is rudimentary and fairly useless, it has no capabilities whatsoever as a rostering tool.

I've installed staff master on our departments homepage. The component would be great if not for the lack of code... ;-(
*the tables can not be extended to more than 20 entries in the administration gui - switches back to control panel. So you can not reach persons with item # > 20 in admin. !!!!
* neither can the people be sorted properly - they are shown the way they are entered in department view even though one orders them manually when entering. This is one of the most important needed features.
* the css in administration is busted. Some entries fall out of the screen, because they have to long info-entries.
* a chiffre of the email addresses would be necessary.
All in all nice but very buggy at the moment.

Just a quick note, new version available to fix pagination as well as provide Filter-by-Department & Filter-by-Published options when viewing Staff/Departments.
CSS should be fixed.
Email Address cloaking is an issue that will be fixed in a future version, hopefully to be released this week.

This component is exactly what I was looking for. Flexible and clean. Has a few quirks. Works great on Mozilla. Having issues on ie7 as images are not displaying on any of the views.

I have been waiting for someone to create an extension with these features.
The support has been great, very fast responses with solutions.

I tested this component today. It has a good idea. I think many websites want such a component to show their staff list.
But when I installed v0.7.5.2 on my Joomla! 1.5.8, the backend icons of this component can't show up. The reason is that my Joomla was installed in a subfolder to www root. And this component can't support Joomla in subdir.
Hope the author will fix this soon.
Thanks.

This is exactly what I needed. Thanks to the developer for saving me days of effort. This is what Joomla! is about. It has lots of configuration options and the recent upgrade took only seconds and went without a hitch.
I had my development site in a sub-directory, so I had to remove a forward slash that was causing my css in the admin panel to break, but this only took me a few minutes. Excellent
