Excellent component. Although component is big, but it is understandable to novice user. Thanks for sharing this good component, easy to use and to implement.

I use sobi2 since 2007. Nearly all my projects are based on this directory - it is easy to configure, easy to use and! easy to seo. One negative point i have heard is weird queries, what makes sobi2 heavy for some hostings. But: i never experienced this issue myself, cause i run my project always on VServer with dedicated 64mb RAM and this is fully enough for all my sobi2's, even populated with thousands of items. One my personally negative point is the database architecture, where the title is stored not on the same table as all other fields of the item. This make my favorite tag component not usable with sobi2, but this only my personal point. BTW, the tags as meta tags are fully integrated into sobi2, also don't worry. Fully integrated into sobi2 are so much things - you just see into JED/ Extension specific: you will wonder! One point, that must be mentioned is the support in the sobi2-forum: for times i was very disappointed about my topics, which were not answered. But now the sibi2 community is grown and people in the forum are real skillful: even sobi2 developers are present, if there are question, which need expert knowledge. Also, i used some cck's for directory building, but after all i come back to sibi2, cause of a whole lot Extension, good support and consistent further development.

Using your extension from 1 year and continues to amaze me the many possibilities you have.
I work at a non-profit community, I have tried other tools but the only fully convinced me is Sobi:
Whenever I need a new function, I have the chance to get it! Incredible support and incredible .... fantastic forum community plenty of altruistic people!

I have been a user of SOBI2 as of 2007, and have never added a review to JED, although I am very pleased.

Very good component, very well supported through their forums, these people take the extra step to help you out when things are not working (even by my own fault).

If you need a stable, cutting edge directory component that will also work without php knowledge, this is the one.

i have used SOBI2 to realize very nice, simple and useful admin area (backend) for my dynamic website; in my opinion Sobi2 is the best tool for Joomla that allows you to create custom input forms really excellent :)

This is a very useful component for Joomla-based directory websites, and one of the best out there in any category. There are also tons of add-on extensions that extend the functionality of this great application. Documentation is quite robust and support is excellent through the forum.

To say sobi2 is good for just a directory is to understate it. I often find myself looking for a perfect solution for a component then say to myself...Actually I could just do that with Sobi2. Almost anything you would want to customize in Sobi2 someone has already done and you can find in their forum. I would like an easier way to customize the category chooser, but I can't complain about much about this product. Sobi2 changes the way I develop a website and I can't say enough good things about it.

I tried different address data bases. Sobi2 was the perfect solution. It is extremely flexible, because everything is configurable. There is a very good support by a forum, where most questions are already answered. I had a lot of requirements for my address data base, Sobi2 fullfilled neary all and it was easy to change the code for the rest.
I'm very thankfull that I can use Sobi2 for my non-profit organisation.

After trying other non-commercial directory solutions (probably as good as this one), but with slight problems that I didn't want to be facing. I met Sobi2, and it works like a charm.

Pros:
- the extensibility through dozens of extensions (with a built-in plug-in system).
- easy to use.
- works after a 2 minute setup
- the way it was designed, so it fits to work as a directory of *whatever* (businesses, collections, files...)

Cons:
- didn't find any cons! (yet)


I would definitely pay for this, but on the other hand, thanks to authors because it's free, because otherwise, I may have not even tried it.

Personal comment: this extension encouraged me to register as a user here :). So I can be able to rate it.

To sum up, I think this is the best extension ever made.

This extension is just awesome. I am new to Joomla, but I wanted to make a web directory, and it does not get better than this. To be honest it is the first one I tried, and I was not disappointed. Installation and configuration was easy, I was a bit worried at first, but is was good time spent researching the best directory extension to try first. I happily donated. Being one of the many Joomla users - without a vast knowledge of PHP, I look for components that I, and my clients, can easily understand and manage. Joomla provides a wonderful platform for attractive, entertaining and easily navigated sites, and Sobi2 extends this - by providing another dimension. I found it easy to install, the support documentation is easily understood - and by reading some of the user forum entries, a little "tweaking" presents no problem - even at my limited skill level.
Many thanks to all concerned, I look forward to future developments of both Joomla and SobiPro with anticipation and excitement.

I'm a beginner when it comes to Joomla, HTML, CSS etc so I thought that configuring SOBI2 would be beyond my ability. I was wrong. SOBI2 too is extremely user friendly. Add to that the great and timely support from the SOBI2 forum and this is a hard combination to beat.

This Component is very easy to install and configure. Downloaded the SobiSEF plug-in, works great with Joomla core SEF. Unlike any other directory extensions listed here, no hassle to activate SEF, works properly. Downloaded the Menu Module, Awesome!

These guys are great, all the answers are in their documentation.

Get this component it will save you time and aggravation and make your site look GREAT!
