Already in 2006, as no one talks about CCK for the content management system Joomla! Sigsiu.NET developed a component for Joomla! which has content construction support. Designed as a business directory (online business index) Sobi2 could already be used for every kind of directory. Therefore everything what the operator of a website wants to get listed in a directory like companies, clubs, persons, shops or products can be created.
Content Construction using Sobi2 Fields Manager
All fields which are necessary for your directory can be created easily using the Fields Manager. There are several field types to choose from like text input fields, text areas (w/o WYSIWYG editor), check boxes, check box groups, select lists (drop down lists), simple text fields or a calendar field.
For text inputs fields there are additional settings available. You can define a text input field to be used for an URL address, an email address, a link to an image or to a video/audio file. According to this setting the entered data will be shown in the views with the necessary syntactical format.
During installation, Sobi2 creates by default several custom fields for a business directory. You can easily extend them by any number of your own fields. Or you can simply delete these standard fields and create your own fields.
Sobi2 language packages are available for 35 languages!

This extension is the best there is! It was so easy to install, configure, and train my clients to use! Even the forums were very helpful. I found all of my questions answered via the documentation and forums.

I could say enough about SOBI2. I just simply love this extension. There were hangups getting it installed but because of my hosting company....but like with any issue I've come across I've always been able to get it resolved. Response is great. Thanks you to SOBI2. I tried some of the directory components at the beginning but when I found Sobi2 all other components were nothing to it. You can have lots of plug-ins for extending Sobi2 and even clone the component to have more then one on your site. Excellent! Big compliments to Sobi2 team. Thank you for giving such a great FREE component!
i love SOBI2 It is pure vanilla. The installation was a great fun! i love it. I found the component easy to use. I also found the component very comphrensive.

This component offers me everything I was looking for with my new site. It's easy to set up yet offers more advanced customization if you have the time and patience (for beginners such as myself). Almost every issue I've encountered is covered by Neo and other helpful people in the community forums, simply amazing!
Only wish would be someway to make cloning easier, for sites who have multiple directories and don't want to have everything included together.

The key to this component is it's adaptability.
On www.segatravelmauritius.com I have used 3 clones, one for a holiday home listings, one for various holiday activities and the other is an information "database" , all 3 being in 4 languages.
These different uses only needed a bit of thought about the arrangement of the "structure" and some changes to the templates.
The "multilingual" method I have used is fairly basic as the entries are all handled by the site owner.

Support is good and most questions can be answered within the forums.

front end is really clear and looks so good , but back end is awesome , it's pretty huge and awesome ...

I am new to joomla - but i have to say. You can do what ever you want with it. It is super-featurerich. The complexity of administrating any directory is solved with sobi2 !
And always a very good and reactive support, even for free modules and so on. Definitely THE joomla component!

This component has been a lifesaver for me and for the site I had planned out. The documentation that is available and the flexibility of use with the template commands allows me to do so much more than I had envisioned based on my research of other components. I have not yet needed any assistance from the forums as every time I needed help with something, there was documentation on the site covering the information I was looking for.
Overall a great component that does what it says, wasn't buggy or confusing, and took care of business. Thanks guys!
