The DocMan 2.0 UI is even more user friendly. I enjoy the batch assignment of many files into one category, it is so much easier than in the old DocMan!
The support of the developers is also worth mentioning. I use DocMan 2.0, which is in state of RC right now (Dec 2013). Though it is really much better than DocMan 1.x, some features are still missing. The staff really took care of my issues and fixed them within 24 hours. This is what I call a support!!
I also managed to upgrade my DocMan content from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 3.x with their great migration tools.
If you handle with a lot of documents, buying a subscription will save you time and nerves ;).
I discovered a small bug in the DocLink editor plugin. The developers were very quick in answering, finding the bug, fixing it, and then providing instructions as to how to fix it before the next release.
As a Joomla developer, I know what good customer service looks like - and this is it! Great job guys on a great new version and incredible service.
Although I am completely impressed with the Support I received, it did take some time to resolve an issue with Internet Explorer 10 not resizing icons, and the support staff took 3 days (only one reply per day) to tell me what I had already known and posted was the problem in the first place.
Then, I had to do much fussing with my Joomla template to get it to play nice with DocMan. Apparently, there is a snippet of DocMan css code that was telling my sub menus to not show?? I had to replicate the template and with some hacking, was able to assign it to the pages that contained DocMan so the menu would work properly.
Lastly, as a seasoned Joomla user, I have found it standard that any commercial extension would have a global configuration panel. Unfortunately, I discovered this is only available through the menu item options, which is fine once I learned how to use it that way.
Overall, though, I really like how it works. DocMan used to be, and is once again, the go-to solution for Joomla document management.
When upgrading the site i looked for some alternatives as there were som minor things that annoyed me.
But i kept getting back to DOCman. I have used the 2.0 version on another site and it looks great !
Now i can't wait for the migration tool to finish so i can get the DOCman 1.6 upgraded to 2.0
Kind regard Bas.
what i hate that its using external library and too many files installed silently. Namely koowa, nookue framework, its plugins, com_docman,com_files , Duh not for me. thanks
I had a mixed experience with migration from previous version, I had to finish the migration by myself.
Its incredibly easy to use. The dev team is very responsive to user feedback, with several workflow improvements seen in the past weeks.
