Shared Private Space Component

Shared Private Space v3.0-BETA is a Joomla 1.5 component that creates a private space for each registered user. This space is accessible with a link in the usermenu.
Using a simplified interface, the user can upload and delete files in his private folder.
The user can also send the link to the selected files in an e-mail. Two options are possible: sending a direct e-mail using the Joomla server or create an email using your operating system’s default e-mail program.

WARNING : this BETA is provided without any guarantees. Use it at your own risk and only for testing purposes, not production.

This component is very easy to use - very simple interface, users can understand what to do easily. I would like to see a space monitor, so users can see how much space they have left in their quota...otherwise if they are out of space, the file just doesn't upload and they don't understand why, no error message or anything. Other than that, I am very happy with the component.

This extension is great for what I need. I use it for students to upload completed assignments and then trainers can access the files for marking and leave an editted file or a comments fil in the students file space.

Two improvements which would make life easier would be:
1. if you could choose what joomla user level could access the admin features (like email, browse other spaces)
2. On the Browse This Space page, the usernames sorted alphabetically would help th large sites.

For raremind, I just wanted to mention that the altersystems forum is multi language, but as most of the users that post in that forum are french, they answer in french. Post in english and they will answer in english.
This Component does exactly what it says it does. Been waiting for something stable like this for a long time and this realy was what I was looking for. There is only one major problem that kept me from giving it a 5 star rating. I need to make a change and can not find where it is in the code, so here is the problem..... no documentation what so ever and going to their forums is useless (unless you speak and read french). Their help in the component itself directs you to their forums. The Component is great, just hope you dont need help.

Hi:

I'm having problems deleting files for users that are no super administrators. Simply it doesn't delete.

The rest of functions works ok. An excellent extension.

I like this component and it does just what I need, BUT there is one major issue: as the document's link is open it can be open by any user by clicking on that link. The link can be emailed or cached in browser memory and available to other people.

If the link would be viewable only by that registered user, like the DocMan has, this would be perfect.

Can this feature be added?

It does exactly what it is suppose to do. But i had to switch from PHP5 to PHP4 doing the installation. Other then that, everything is perfect.

We love this component. It has added a new dimension to the site. Only problem is that they are not sure of their upload status. is it possible to show the status of the upload?

The guy who wrote the hacked version should get together with the writer to make this component really nice.
I modify this component to allow more settings, and propose my change to alter system.

You can find this modified version (1.2.5) on Joomlagora.org:
http://www.joomlagora.org/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_details/gid,3/

- Display or not buttons,
- Specify User level to access buttons,
- Select display view,
- Front admin interface, allowing super users to manage users files.
- Define allowed file extensions

This does exactly what it says. It's especially handy if you have a private family website and would like to let your family members have somewhere to host files. Thanks so much for making this and keep up the good work!

I really like this - it does what I struggled to get docman doing ... creating private folders for each client registered via community builder.

Only problem I had is clicking on "configuration" broke it, so I had to reinstall.

Also, when I upload files, the filenames seem to be called "." and ".." "..." etc. Not entirely sure why this is happening but it's a bit problematic when trying to remember which file is which. Might have missed something but given the problem with the configuration I'm hesitant to poke around too much!

Would also be great to have some way of changing the default save dir to something unique (e.g. "fileuploads") rather than "espacePrive".

Support forums would be extremely helpful (in english if possible!) to enable discussion of problems/fixes/etc.

Otherwise, very promising if the language & bugs issues get fixed!

I'd been looking for a simple, no fuss, extremely basic file manager and I found one. Easy as clicking Browse, finding a file and clicking Upload.

Absolutely recommended. Great for shared virtual drives you can access from anywhere.
This is a very simple, very useful tool for uploading and downloading any file into a private folder that is created when someone registers on your site. It could also be useful when you want to quickly upload or download a file when you are at work or on the road. I have not tested online yet.

The only thing it really needs is some way of limiting total file size, otherwise someone could block your site. Until then, I will use it as an admin tool. The interface is in French but it is easy to find the text and replace it with your language. Excellent.

This Component is pretty good and was exactly what i was looking for. Although some file's had to be modified to incorporate english, thumb's up :)
