Main Features :
- Nested categories
- Herachical folder structure : Unlike other files download extension using just one folder to store all files, EDocman allows you to put your files in a herachical folder structure (the folder structure is based on the categories structure which you setup - each category will have it's own folder to store files as state above).
- Multilingual support: If your site is multilingual, when you create categories, documents, you can assign them to a language. And when users browse categories, documents from front-end, only categories and documents assigned to that language (or all languages) will be displayed.
- Documents management : EDocman allows you to create documents and then your site users (public or registered users) can browse and download these documents from front-end.
- Front-end documents uploading / management .
- Local / remote files support : Your documents can be stored on your local server or on a remove server. In case your documents are stored on a remote server, you will just need to enter url of the document when creating new document.
- Powerful and Flexible permission system:
+ Using Powerful Joomla 1.6, Joomla 1.7, Joomla 2.5 ACL feature.
+ Permission can be setup in Component Level , Category Level or Document Level.
+ Permission can be inherited in the following structure Component Level >> Category Level >> Sub Categories >> Documents.
+ You can even only give one or several users to access to a category or document by entering ID of these users into User IDs field when creating category/document.
- Indexer plugin allows indexing PDF and Word documents and make it searchable based on content of these documents.
- RSS integration
- Tags support
- Security : All your documents are protected and users cannot download them even they know the direct link to the document.
- Search module allows searching documents based on keyword and category.

I have used this extension for a business web site to provide a document repository for registered users (staff) to access key documents and to provide a download archive for the public to access. This is the third extension I have bought from this developer (joom donation and event booking being the others). Even though I cannot claim to be a web developer I have found them to be easy to set up and to perform well for my needs. Where I have required some assistance Tuan, the developer, has been fantastic in dealing with my requests, often responding by email return and always within a day or two.
I've installed countless Joomla extensions, but this one made me register on this site just so I could write a review. I had wasted a lot of time trying other document management extensions... but I had this one installed, configured, and working in tall blew up.. and a fired off an email to Tuan complaining... and he wrote me back in like 5 minutes...

This extension's functionality is exactly what the description depicts: an easy way to display and let users download files from your website. You can create many sections and sub categories to allow users to browse through document pages if you offer many files for download. The support team is very accessible and responds very quickly. There was a CSS issue with the extension and my template, so I filed a support ticket. Within one business day, everything was working flawlessly. You must give this extension a try, a really superb way to let users download the files you want them to.

This extension is really similar in use as the joomlatools DocMan extension. I bought this extension for a 1.7 website. Previously I used the joomlatools DocMan extension - it is only the price that made me choose this one.
Having now used both the Docman extension by joomlatools and the EDocman by joomdonation - I think if the price was the same I would choose the joomlatools Docman version, but this is purely personal as overall this extension works fine.
