Take a fresh look on how file downloads in Joomla! should be done. Now that the Joomla! articles are no longer limited to the Sections > Categories structure, why not offer your downloads inside your Joomla! articles? That's what ccDownloads does!
In other words, this Joomla! document manager does not have it's own directory structure with categories, it uses the Joomla! categories and articles you are already familiar with.
