The component has got two types:
Type 1: Every user can upload and download and view their OWN documents. The super administrator is also authorized.
Type 2: Every user can upload and download and view all uploaded documents.

Does what it says. Needed some hacking to get it as the client wanted, but a very good base to start with. Will use again.

I wanted to have an up-download-area for my clients on an online print shop and the component does what it says.But...
The language folder is in the wrong place, it has to be moved into the components folder.
Strangely enough the Virtuemart login redirects to the component, it overrides any ajustment you make to the VM login module. Therefore the checkout in VM, at the moment a client has to register, will not proceed, because it redirects to FTPsystem. Very annoying.

This does work the way it is explained. My only issue is that it doesn't have a way to designate which users can ftp and which can't. This is a security issue.

This is a excelent componnent, but i have suggestions:
Send a message for admin when a upload or download does made.
