The component have two types:
Type 1: Every user can upload and download and view their OWN documents. The super administrator is also authorized.
Type 2: Every user can upload and download and view all uploaded documents.

I used this component for a customer who had quite simple download- und upload-needs for exchanging documents with his customers.
FTP-System does this very well - nothing more and nothing less. All in all a nice component which ist very easy to handle because you don't have to train the admin-users for special configurations, meta-data etc.

I've installed this on a clients site and the login and file upload/download is flawless. However, it would be a nice feature to have the SuperAdministrator be able to upload files FOR a specific user. Also, being able to bulk upload files via FTP would be nice but this does not scan directories.
For $4, this does a great job at what it does, I just wish it had a teeny bit more functionality. Installation and setup was a breeze.

I just boght tha FTP System, but it is not working with joomla 1,5.
Your Extension appears to be written for an older version of Joomla!. You must enable the System - Legacy Plugin in the Plugin Manager if you wish to complete this task.

The plugin does what it says, creates a "private" file upload/download area for a user, or a public upload/download area for everyone. To get to your own files you must login, or to get to everyone's files you must login.
Unfortunately if you choose to uninstall the program note it hijacks the system login/logout functionality and you'll get an error.
To restore the original functionality you'll need to replace the module folder with the default login module folder that comes with the original Joomla install and you'll need to replace the user component as well. As always make sure you have a backup before attempting this fix (or if you like to gamble, rename the current folders and then delete once you are sure everything is working).
Here are the folders that need to be replaced...
/components/com_user
/modules/mod_login

Does what it says. Needed some hacking to get it as the client wanted, but a very good base to start with. Will use again.
I wanted to have an up-download-area for my clients on an online print shop and the component does what it says.But...
The language folder is in the wrong place, it has to be moved into the components folder.
Strangely enough the Virtuemart login redirects to the component, it overrides any ajustment you make to the VM login module. Therefore the checkout in VM, at the moment a client has to register, will not proceed, because it redirects to FTPsystem. Very annoying.
