This, by far, is my favorite Portfolio extension. Comprehensive options - as others said, it does take a little while to sort out the parameters, since there's no documentation about the specifics and the developer's forums are down... however, the amount of display options you have with this component is amazing. (To be fair, there are handy video tutorials on the developers site, but they don't cover some of the more elusive details and a few bug issues).

One of the best things about this extension, that I've not yet seen in any others, is that this one also keeps in mind that not everyone who has a portfolio to show off, is solely rooted in still images. This one allows you to display video and audio as well (.mov, flv, .mp3 and more). To get this to work with JW Player properly, make sure to switch the "Display media files" setting for the item/category's image handling.

A previous time I tried to install this extension about a year ago, I had the same problem others here mentioned regarding images not showing up... however, installing it this week, the extension generally works fine. It seems to be the same version of the extension I installed last time,so I'm not sure what the issue was... it works now.

My only "complaints" are also things others touched upon already (but I'm going to clarify some things) - 1. the sort order settings do not work from the backend and there is no known fix. Currently, each new item you add automatically will be displayed towards the bottom of the page - newest, last. 2. The search plug-in only picks up on words in the actual description and the title. It will not return results for other fields such as technology or client - so if those things are what you feel people will search for, you'll currently have to mention those related keywords in the description. In the future, I hope to see this extension include all related fields in the search, the sorting/ordering fixed, and perhaps a sort function that defaults to the newest items displayed first.

With all that said, I STILL rate this extension pretty high, for the number of things it does right, and the fact that it's free, and has saved me countless hours of time. I have images, audio and video in my body of work, and I've never quite found a tidy, sensible way to display all three media types in a portfolio, without spending months re-doing it after a change of some kind... that is, until now. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

If the developer fixes the small bugs, I mentioned, this would be a near-perfect extension and one worth paying for.
- No support, no response on emails, forum offline
- Item ordering doesn't work from backend.
- Compression settings for cropping images is low what leeds to crappy image quality.

The component is really elaborate and finely constructed. It is so it seems like a core component of the Joomla system.

Sadly (and correct me if I'm wrong) the search module can't find ANYTHING inside this component. If we were to consider a portfolio of more than 100 items, I believe the search module is extremely important, and this is why I give it two stars (and also because those 100 items I was talking about before, are actually in my website, and thus have to reenter them using another component).

Bye bye!
Didnt want to handcode my portfolio section for my client websites, and tried this.

Does exactly what it says, and although you do need to have a look through the options it isn't complicated, just flexible.

Highly recommended.

I've tried each of the 9 portfolio components listed on j.d.e. For some reason I decided to try this one last. I'm not sure whether that was a good idea: if I had tried it first, it might have saved me a good deal of time, however by trying it last I don't have to worry about there being a *better* one out there.

YMMV of course, but this is the one that rocks it for me.

I really liked what this extension do and way it does it, but I have encountered few problems using it. First one was installation problem (after installation, upon going on component link browser kept reporting some kind of a loop error). I have solved it by manually creating tables and folders for storing images. None were created by installer. Then I ran into image problem some have. I haven't solved it yet completely, but I have realised that SEF cousing it. If I turn off SEF, everything works.

I have to say, that I have installed same component on another site, for testing purpouses, and none of those problems occured, and site is hosted with the same company as first one, so I am not sure what might be causing those errors.

I really like the way this component works and looks!

But like chromahoen, I can't see the images. The support forum is offline so I can't find any documentation and my knowledge of php is minimal so I don't know how to change it.

i've been developing joomla sites for myself and clients for almost 3 years. this is the first time i'm felt compelled to review a extension.

recently used Portfolio for our companies new design portfolio and i must say it's simply amazing!

after trying several other options i decided to give this one a shot. took me a few to learn my way around all the parameters but it was so worth it! all the customizable options are great - this developer seems to of truly thought about it all when it comes to a professional design portfolio tool.

no problems to date - i highly recommend it to anyone looking for this type of portfolio component.

happily paid the $25 fee to remove the back link and to support this developer. superb work!!!

Had an issue installing this where I could not see the images. Going into the skins folders and removing the URL from the images source path reference fixed that. Would have rather posted this info on the forum, but the site community/support link is under maintenance. Great component. Pretty, flexible.
This component looks terrific, certainly the most full featured and polished of any of the non-commercial extensions here.

My one concern is that the licensing is unclear. It's listed as GPL here on the Joomla site, but the download link leads to the developer site where it's listed under a CC (by-nd) license. If a GPL version is indeed available, it's not apparent on the download page.

Up to now there have been only commercial portfolio extension and of those I was not impressed at all. Not we have a few to choose from at the JED and I have to say as of this writing this one is the best one by far. It does exactly what I need it to do exactly how I want to do it. Plenty of options and trick items. Absolutely no bugs that I could find. Too good for free! Not!
I'm not sure why nobody's reviewed this yet - it's great! Really easy to use, powerful, a lot of layout options - a great addition to any site that needs to showcase any kind of visual materials.
This portfolio component is by far the best I have ever used.
Simple install, simple config and the fact that you even can use subcategories brings even more value to this tool. I use it for our own showcase and also for client sites. Never had any trouble at all.

Very well done. Keep up the good job
