The application Coupon Manager, as others have noted has tremendous potential. I purchased a year ago and encountered numerous problems (yes I did use the forums to try to get resolutions) that were quite frankly not addressed ... but I was hopeful that the early bugs would and could be squashed.
Now as to the specific reasons for my taking the time to review; The developer markets "lifetime" upgrades for the product, that was a good sign since the application had some basic flaws that needed time to be addressed ... I was willing to wait. Initially when I would seek help in the forums, I could on occassion get an answer from the developers, but I noticed that for those bugs that many others were having problems with, and that there were no suitable answers forthcoming, the developers would no longer respond ... not a good sign.
There were incremental upgrades over time, but many of the fundamental problems from the original iteration remained. Then suddenly (for me), support disappeared! Questions went unanswered for months and at some point a ticket system was implemented ... this is where the real rub for me came.
I went to my account to see if a newer, bug-free (okay at least with fewer bugs) version was available since the site touted a new v2.0.8 ... WOW was I surprised to see that not only did I not have access to the newest version (remember, lifetime upgrades were promised when I bought) but lo and behold I only had access to the earliest Joomla v1.5 ONLY version! Mind you I had always had access to the Joomla v2.5 versions and as newer versions were released they would show up in my account ... now I had been reduced to a version I never, and never could use!
Okay, I figured it time to utilize the new Ticket system since this was surely an oversight on the developers part. I submitted a ticket explaining my situation, provided the order number from when I purchased, and waited for a response ... My response? ... The ticket was simply closed, not a word of explanation and I am still stuck with a version that I cannot use and my "lifetime" upgrades evidently has evaporated into that development black hole.
I've purchased from many developers over the years I've been with Joomla and not all have been stellar at support or squashing bugs, but I have never dealt with a development environmet this dysfunctional! And that is too bad because the concept is good and it could have been a great additiona to the cream of the crop Joomla applications out there.
The moral? Caveat emptor (Buyer beware)
I think it's a culmination of poor support you have experienced over the past few months, experiencing some very fundamental bugs in the component and then the nail in the coffin was a system error which prevented you from downloading the latest version.
I would understand your frustration as, being a co-founder, I am in as much as pain as my customers are.
As a fellow entrepreneur at CiviCRM has pointed out that there is a dearth of skilled Joomla developers with core experience. There're Joomla customizers. But they are of no help when it comes to build a Joomla product. They can only customize. That's how they have been programmed to work!
We are rebuilding the Coupon component with our Core Joomla team and this time we will make sure that there are these three elements available for our product: 1. Free from general and fundamental bugs. 2. Round the Clock support (We're setting up a team solely for support (Previously it was developers who would take time out from their schedule to answer the tickets). 3. Automated Update Cycle.
This review is justified. We deserve it for our degraded support over the past few months. Be it lack of staff or otherwise.
Having said that, we're regaining lost grounds starting May 2013. We have three new version releases with new features, bug fixes and UI improvements scheduled for release this month and more so in near future.
We apologize for all the frustrations our customers have went through in the past few months.
Agree about Bad support. Our support level has degraded in the past few months. All due to unavailability of resources. It's been four months since we are trying to hire new developers but it's really tough to find Core Joomla Developers.
There're Joomla Customizers out there but only few core Joomla developers. We are hopefully going to have 2-3 Developers this month.
We are so desperate about not being able to release new versions as quickly as possible and also about degraded support. We want our customers to be happy but we need enough employees to do so. And that's what is failing us.
If anyone of you know Joomla developers who has core knowledge of Joomla, please refer. We are in desperate need of new developers. We have so many things, so many products which need to be released urgently.
I will never purchase a product from Joomla6Teen again.
Apologies. I know it's you, Sue. There have had been those problems you mentioned in your review. But they all have been fixed in the latest version v2.0.8. Hope this cools you down. We're just redoing our focus on our most-loved products and continuously hiring more and more Developers to help us with our new releases. We're aware of how bad it feels to have a product which over promises and under delivers. We dont want to be known as such a product company. That's why we are now releasing new versions of all of our products. Some products have their new versions out and some will have theirs soon. Coupon Manager's new version is out. Just so you know.
After install the component, I am please about the support that help me to custumize my website. There was no error in this, but this componet is very complex that it is not until 1 week, I know how to control the procedure to import coupon, store owner... Thank to the support team.
Before I ever purchased the product I had some questions that I wanted to ask, as I needed to make sure that this would work for our needs in replacing the clients site. I got a response back within 30 minutes of sending it to them, and I had a hit list of stuff for them to overcome in order for me to purchase the product. They answered and addressed all of the questions I had about the coupon manager, and a lot of them were based on thinking that it had to be to good to be true. Had I finally found the perfect solution after searching for so long. YES! It was the perfect solution, and it offers so many features that make it so easy to manage, and the "Merchant Area" for clients to add their coupons is just phenomenal.
I highly recommend this product to anyone that needs this type software. And to add icing on the cake, while they offer a free setup for their software, I felt comfortable installing it on my own. Well I ran into a issue with a third party template I had installed, and didn't know it was causing any problems. So the support staff snapped into action and in no time had things fixed. And it wasn't because of their software, it was because of the template I had installed on the Admin. Well they fixed the code to make everything play nice together, and they are also open to ideas of improving the software. They are constantly making it better with each new release. It is an investment the will continue to give you great ROI. They also offer a lot of other software that fills holes that nobody else is doing very well at filling. During my search I found that the software companies out there either want way to much for their product, or it doesn't allow you to have enough control over it. Most seemed to want the rights to my first born. Not the guys at coupon manager. You pay once, and it is well worth it. So if you are thinking of starting a coupon type website, or need to offer coupons on your site, this is the best option available in all of the JED, no need to look farther, as you have found the right one. And on a closing note, they also offer mobile apps for each of their software's, and can build custom apps as well. we are planning on using them in the future to build our next mobile app. I definitely look forward to what the bring to the table in the coming years, as I feel a lot of other software companies should take notes from these guys. They truly are excellent, and deserve every star I gave them Thank Irsh for everything, I love the coupon manager, and what you have done to make it so easy to use, not to mention how good it looks to a client.
I'm delighted with my Coupon Manager - does everything it's supposed to do and then some. I typically attribute my stumbles and hiccups to user experience - that would be me! - but each time I emailed the developers with a usage question, the replies were VERY fast, extremely detailed and concise.
The Coupon Manager will give you the ability to create printable coupons (obviously) and vouchers, these are fabulous aspects I've found very useful:
Manipulate availability - start and end dates
Add custom fields - goes without saying
Position coupons anywhere on your Joomla site - menus, etc.
Include icons - very helpful for consumer brand recognition
Very easy to use - clearly labeled tabs
Documentation - installation and custom settings
Multiple categories - ability to classify coupons across categories and sub-categories
Modules to further customize your Coupon Manager - these alone will create your ROI
MANY more options... I am pleased and very happy that this was my first commercial purchase!
SUPPORT: Will blow your socks off! Extremely approachable, knowledgeable and friendly; very eager to make sure you are getting the most out of every option in the package (there are MANY!!).
I especially appreciate support when it's given in my language and at my level of learning - all of my requests for support were returned with information I was able to process without having to dig through my well-tabbed Joomla reference books. The developers at Joomla6teen believe in their products and have a very apparent affinity & appreciation for those of us on the other side of the monitor :-)
