Tienda is not a fork or bridge; it is a brand new extension designed and written from scratch by Dioscouri Design. It is built on Joomla's MVC framework and can therefore be easily modified or themed using Joomla's templates.
Tienda has been built with you, the site's administrator, in mind. While building Tienda, we focused on answering the question, "What would make it easier for us to operate our online stores?"
Some of the cool features:
* Unlimited Products and Categories
* User Group Pricing
* Unlimited User Groups
* Sell subscriptions (recurring and not recurring)
* Sell digital downloads
* Integrate with Billets, Juga, Amigos, and the core Joomla ACL to sell functions in each of those components
* Perform ANY SQL query after a user purchases a product, so you can integrate with ANY extension out there (such as selling Jomsocial group membership or Agora Forum group membership)
* One-click related products
* Content Plugin to insert products' add-to-cart buttons in any content article, including Zoo, K2, and FlexiContent
* Product Reviews & Ratings
* Product Cloning
* Custom fields for products
* Google Analytics ecommerce tracking
* Facebook Like and Twitter "Tweet This" integration
* Product Comparison
* Tools to Migrate from Xcart, Virtuemart, and Redshop
In total, there are over 50 extensions for Tienda!

Please, please, please participate in the development of Tienda by reporting bugs and feature requests on http://projects.dioscouri.com - that's the only way Tienda can become exactly what you need!
Cheers!
BUT...
1. Not all the features are fully functional. For example, the product custom fields don't work properly. IF the entered values carry over into the shopping cart (yes, often times they don't), they don't carry over into the checkout process.
2. Their support is slow to respond and sporadic. I payed the $100 for a month of support and reported the issue of the custom fields not working on April 26th. It's now been over 5 weeks and there's no fix. Most of that time I heard nothing from the support team. I would argue that I've only received about 2 to 2.5 weeks of support. I've even set up a test site, at the developers request, with a copy of the live site. For about a week, an attempt was made to correct the issue, which at first seemed to work, but after further testing created more problems. Communication from them would be very helpful and a fix for this problem is critical. Besides my communication with them in their support ticket system, on June 1st I emailed them letting them know how unhappy I was and have not received a response yet.
As I said, this extension has a lot of potential, but the lack of support for known issues nullifies any amount of potential it may possess.
Come on Dioscouri Team! I really want you to succeed!!
Therefore, since you do have to pay for support/documentation to actually be able to use the thing, one would question if it is really non-commercial. It's like getting all the parts for a free car, but you'll pay dearly for the parts list and instructions.
Don't expect any help at all unless you pay. They do not offer even basic instructions of any kind and you will end up pulling your hair out over this one.
Just to clarify - all of our documentation is available online for FREE.
We also provide a user-to-user forum area where you can ask other users the how-to questions.
The analogy about the car isn't quite accurate because you don't need to 'put together' Tienda - you just need to configure your payment processing, shipping, taxes (sorry, that area is complex thanks to politicians), and then set-up your catalog/products. Not sure how that is any more difficult than any other full-featured shopping cart (i.e. VM, Redshop, etc.).
I've tried almost any e-commerce component available for joomla, but all of them lack some important features for me.
Tienda is just perfect, the way you can customize any product/category view, excluding things you just don't need or want to show is amazing.
It's very easy to install and setup. The two modifications in the php.ini file are very simple to do.
Just one point: the translations should be a bit easier to access and to install.
Love it!
Easy to navigate, quickly set up store front and the back end has many attributes to enable customization of specific needs.
I had a question for support, and I was answered within hours by Chris - very helpful.
Overall, very impressed, and highly recommend Tienda for its features and the customer support.
So I left a message on the forum but several days have passed and I received absolutely no reply!
This is very frustrating. You cannot submit a ticket unless you pay for support, but in my case I just want a simple question answered -- how to get the two extensions working together? Since both of these are coming from one developer, it'd seem a no-brainer to provide some instructions.
I am a newbie and a non-techie. Very disappointed with the level of support.
This is kind of a ridiculous review:
> I searched the forum and someone on the forum said that the two were already integrated -- but then I could not find any info on how to set the two up to work together.
You received your answer! The two are already integrated! You do not need to do anything to get them to work together! Once they're both installed, they're integrated!
> You cannot submit a ticket unless you pay for support, but in my case I just want a simple question answered -- how to get the two extensions working together?
Wouldn't answering that question be the definition of 'support'?
To recap: this user already has our two extensions integrated, but wants instructions on how to integrate them (even though they automatically integrate with each other after installation).
Then -- despite receiving the answer from a community member in the forum -- this user is 'Very disappointed with the level of support.'
I don't know what to say.
Tienda is very customizable, as it has been built on the MVC framework which allows for easy template overrides.
Another very important factor for me is the communication from the developers. I have submitted several bug reports and feauture requests and the team at Dioscouri have always replied to me in a polite and professional manner
There is also a clear roadmap and the development of the component is very active. All of this can be seen at projects.dioscouri.com.
I very highly recommend Tienda Ecommerce. The Joomla CMS plus Tienda is a very powerful Ecommerce combination.
Thank you to the team at Dioscouri for all your hard work!
Why only 4 stars? well the only down side is:-
(Taken from developers website)
"You MUST have your PHP max upload size set to 4MB"
Well thats ok if you can change this setting on your host, if not you will have to pay for support to help you install this component.
Luckily for me I can change the size limit and it installed perfectly. So if you can do the above then this is for you.
Thanks for the feedback! We've added a "slim" version of the core package that is only 1+ MB for users with a 2MB upload limit.
Cheers!
Dioscouri currently has one version of Tienda available for download, which is a free community version. Their support, is top of the line and comprehensive, and pretty darn quick [this goes for all their support for their products].
Having said that, the free "Community" version already has a number of advanced features that for other longer established ecommerce extensions are either not available or are commercial addons. These include related products, stock control on unlimited attribute combinations and much more. In my experience the software is also very stable and development is active.
Yes, if you want support you have to pay and quite rightly. Having said that the forum is active and helpful and the code is well written and easy to follow.
This is an extremely feature rich product for a free extension and not suitable for someone who wants a shop in a box without some serious configuration. On the other hand if you are prepared to take the time to learn the product you can have a very powerful ecommerce site. 4 stars because it is still a beta release and by definition is not perfect (yet).
From then to now the product didn't stop adding new features, cleaning bugs and listen very carefully the user opinions.
I could even integrate in very creative ZOO with Tienda and AcyMailing making very advanced posibilites.
The product is still Beta, so no everything it's still documented as every day new feature are added and yes, if you need advanced help you need a subscription but for basic help they are allways there. And honestly, I prefer a paying support than a free product that nobody support.
Tienda opens me a new vision about Joomla so just try it :)
However, using the free version... if you have any questions don't waste your time asking for any help from the staff.
My go around with them was not good. Not customer friendly unless you pay $90 for a support subscription!
This user asked us to support him on his website but refused to purchase a support subscription. When we declined, he exploded into a rage, becoming both rude and uncivil. I am not surprised to see this review from him. In effect, he has said to us:
"I have a job for you. I will not pay you for this work. If you decline this work, I will bad mouth you publicly. If you request compensation for your time, you are being unreasonable, and I will attempt to destroy your reputation."
Fortunately, the substantive part of his review (the part about Tienda's installation and user interface) is actually positive, so thank you for that!
You're welcome! And thanks to you for reporting the issue to http://projects.dioscouri.com. With projects such as Tienda, it's important to report the bugs you find so we have an opportunity to resolve them. With 16 releases in the past 10 months, and a similar pace for the future, it is likely the bug you report will be resolved quickly.
Thanks!
I attempted to deploy tienda community 0.54 in conjunction with yooTheme Zoo. After two days of trying to get this product working I finally abandoned it as a bad loss.
Current version corrupts the Zoo installation.
Community forums offer little or no support.
It is a shame because the product has potential, but its falling by the wayside with other products out there. Quick and urgent work needs to be put in by the developers before this product is killed in its infancy because the current version and level of support is driving people away. I have uninstalled the product and am now looking for an alternative. Again.
I'm sorry to hear you had trouble and gave up! As of the date of this review (November 18, 2010), the current version of Tienda was 0.5.6, which works fine with the version of Zoo that our plugin was written for. Since then, Zoo has released a new version, and we have updated the Zoo plugin.
If you want to track development on Tienda, you can join the 1,300+ participants on our project site at http://projects.dioscouri.com, where you can get this information and immediate, pre-release access to updated files via the SVN.
Full support for Tienda is offered by the developers in our Support Center, not in a "Community Forum".
Thanks!
Documentation is one thing. A little bugginess is another, but for an e-commerce cart, reports are exceptionally important. And unfortunately, the beta version has only a specimen report of "most popular". This needs to be fixed.
I particularly like the way they use real Joomla! modules to connect to payment processors. This makes configuring much easier than the way that other shopping carts for joomla work.
Tienda seems focused on integrating the features of Joomla with its code, instead of requiring the user to learn a complete new construction. For instance, I can use the editor defined by Joomla!, instead of being forced to use whatever editor the shopping cart application has chosen.
This will be an excellent cart when they finish the product.
Thanks for the review! I wish you had waited one more day to post this because we've added 4 more reports to the core Tienda package :-)
* Report on Ordered Products
* Sales Report
* Subscriptions Report
* Report on Products with Low Stock
Activity log here: http://projects.dioscouri.com/projects/tienda/activity
Reports in Tienda are ALSO normal Joomla plugins, so it makes it very easy for anyone in the community (who can write a Joomla plugin) to create a new Tienda report.
Cheers!
So I tried Tienda. I was amazed at how clean and powerful this new shopping cart is. But as others have mentioned, it is not complete. It has bugs and if the developers make big effort to iron out those bugs before adding anymore feautres, then Tienda can be the best shopping cart solution and easily beats all the big guys.
I would like to congratulate the developers for making the best and most beautiful shopping cart solution for Joomla!.
Just need bug fixing. Otherwise it is extremely well designed and all the features you would expect are there.
Thanks for the review! Since we launched Tienda in February 2010, we have released 16 updates with bug fixes and new features. That's 16 upgrades in 10 months. We plan on continuing with a minimum of one release each calendar month to address the bugs that are reported, so please report them to us on http://projects.dioscouri.com
Thanks!
