So what is redSHOP? redSHOP is a Content Creation Kit style of webshop / webshop tool where you got the most access ever given to any user to completely style around and change thier webshop, without alot more knowledge then HTML and a bit of CSS.
redSHOP offers never earlier seen functionality in webshops - redSHOP offers functionality only seen in software with licenses costing more then upto 1000 times more then a 12 Month Pro Subscription costs.
The goal of redSHOP was to take the normal 20% users can do and the 80% thats happens in the php files - and switch it around - so with redSHOP you, the user, can do 80% of everything yourself!!!

I have used redshop for 3+ months now and this is by far the most featured cart on the joomla platform today (and i've tested ALL of them). It does a lot of things to accommodate a lot of different workflows and payment processors. Because of all these features, it can be a little daunting to get a handle on it but it quickly becomes easier once you are familiar with the concepts.
Features are one thing but what is most critical for a shopping cart is the support. After all, if you are using a shopping cart, it's to make money on your site and if your cart is not working, you get no money. It's an extremely simple and critical equation!
I have been more than impressed with the redshop support. Their forums are very active and Marcus, Vandana and the rest of the team are VERY present and answer most threads very quickly. Now, yes, some threads sometimes get missed but if you look at the actual volume of support threads, then you understand why. Rest assured that if you have a major problem, the support truly kicks in and actually logs into your site and makes fixes/configuration changes on the spot! I know of very few extension developers that will actually do this. Once, the owner of the company even spent 2 hours with me on Skype and created a test account on their ISP to troubleshoot a very strange server issue I was having (all that at 10PM his time and from his home!!!).
I was using "the other" cart for more than a year before and I just could not handle it anymore. Pretty much no support, many bugs left unfixed, non-existant development rate, etc... and the customization & maintainance was just hell.
Is redshop the perfect shopping cart? No - but it's the best one available for Joomla today and is actively being developed and again, most importantly, well supported (even free version gets the same forum supports)
On a side note: if you think that 249 Euros a year is too expensive for a shopping cart then you are obviously not running a real business. If you are running a real business then think of the 249E as buying support, development and the peace of mind of knowing that if you had a problem, it would get fixed fast. Community support is a wonderful thing for many components in Joomla but a shopping cart is a critical component. You want an actual company to stand by it and help it's users. Redcomponent does.
(and I've not even gotten into the super easy templating, email configuration, and many many other features!)

We purchased this extension and found it lacking in features and experienced several bugs. The support was very lacking so we went a different route and found there a several other carts out there that are more robust and without the problems. We also had a billing problem and received no response from support on our issue...

We have a team of full time supporters managing our support forum and in most cases a support thread will be answered within 24 hours.
That doesnt happen alot of places if you compare to other extension services out there.
I have bought 3 month subscription to this product.
Very small amount of languages.
First of all - there is no Russian language. If I try to install it I got the error that there is no ini file for Russian. Other extension don't try to copy files if they don't have they. So- this product is still in beta stage.
Second - very high requirements for hosting.
php_value max_execution_time 200 is too big!
Many errors while installation. On my local computer zend server was exhausted his memory (4Gb!).
Very unstable extension! It is not for practical use.

redSHOP has normal moderne hosting requiements.
We own www.redhost.dk and www.iredhost.com and both places you can install redSHOP with a 30 second time out and 30 second execution time and 48 mb memory allowed (you can also use more if you like).
We host 1000's of Joomla websites and specialize in Joomla hosting.
So NO redSHOP does not require alot in hosting - but it sounds like your homebrewed system surely isnt running on par with what you could expect.
Fair enough if your host is from the middle ages or your running it at home but dont come in here and do a 1 star review of redSHOP it self on a completely groundless basis.
As per languages it is all handled today through Open Translators and Transifix and we have Russian translators on the team too - Our translation manager Ole can be reached on ole@redcomponent.com if you have more questions on that subject.
I was able to accommodate almost everything my client wanted as far as specials, discounts, quantity discount/pricing, and product description. One of the best features are the templates used for the interface. Really makes customization a breeze. Support could be faster, but for a free module is really good.
I just want to say I find redSHOP really good to work with. redSHOP has made editing files and styling easy compared to other well known shop components. redSHOP has done a fantastic job in making the complex simple. It's a great program.
Plus if you subscribe for the 12 month pro option the level of help you get from the developers is excellent. Well worth the money and saves time when developing the store.

During the setup we ran into problems connecting to PayPal and incorporating VAT/TAX options but the prompt and capable assistance by the tech team fixed all the outstanding issues in relatively short time. The timely responses by Vandana is highly appreciated. Thank you.
I have been working on a few webshops with Redshop and must say that it is quite easy to use and customise.
Of course if you want a lot of tweaking in design and apperance then you at least have to have a little knowledge of plain html coding , for the rest the genial {tag} system takes care.
If one has an issue there is quite low response time in their support forum, and the staff is very helpful and polite.

I never tried VM and I have not much experience with Joomla, I created my first e-commerce site with a Redshop. For me is a great extension, but above all there is a great technical support. A team that answers to every question. Big thanks to the developers and to the tecnical support on redSHOP,

redSHOP has been my saving grace. It's added the amazing flexibility I need as a web developer, has pretty good customer support, and all that jazz. But it's definitely still got a ways to go. I'd expect such a large extension to have bugs, and I've found a handful over the course of using this, but all of them have been worked through thanks to the redSHOP tech staff.
I'll continue to use redSHOP for future projects, and am really looking forward to when its a more complete, polished extension. There's so much potential there, I can smell it!

Not even finished. I spent 6 months trying to get this software in a workable condition, and almost did. It is for code kids not a out of the box and run system. I even signed up for the Pro edition (paid) and put a lot of work time into this. Im sure its great if you like coding if not this wont be for you, the standard templates are not even in a fit state. good luck!

redSHOP has the easiest template system of any joomla ecommerce system - and why? Its just like joomlas template system and you can change anything without knowing a line of PHP - all you need to build your own templates from scratch is HTML and CSS.
So if you think that is "for codeboys" then sure - you do need to know a bit of HTML and CSS to really style a unique webshop - Or alternatively use a template from one of the big template clubs with redSHOP support (rocketheme, joomlabamboo, gavick etc.) if you are not capable of styling up your own views.
I have tried almost all the shopping carts for different sites.
Most of them are still virtuemart because even I have purchased Redshop, it is not Joomfishable.
It is a very stable version of virtuemart. With the occasional problems yet to solve e.g. product scroller inconsistency between browsers (yes support was requested before, last year). Support response is quick though, even though the problem may not be solved.
I will still use it for a single language only site, which is a narrow market. It was worth the cost last year when there were still many bugs in virtuemart, which seemed to have ironed out a bit this year.
Most of them are still virtuemart because even I have purchased Redshop, it is not Joomfishable.

I would like to give you all guys a review about redshop and my own experience. I read their description and all sounds well, beside a few things. But I was wonderung about their business practise.
A few things and some good that are very strange:
1. No multilanguage support. Very very sad and not state of the art.
I talked to Ronnie via the forum and he told me that a shopsystem doesn´t need to be multilanguage at all! I was surprised. Sound stupid, sorry I have to say, but what kind of information he wants to moderate? He told me that I have to setup different shopsystems according to each language. Wow! That sound strange and not state of the art for a modern shopsystem.
2. Bad forum support. Very rude and bearish answering at their forum. Maybe they have to fight against a lot of bugs they coded. ok but please use an adequate language. I´m not stupid and have a lot of coding experience with joomla since more than 10 years now (good old mambo times;-)) The coding structure seems not very clear. It is by far like the virtuemart 1.0. I searched for "redshop" at the virtuemart forum and all my nightmares seems to be confirmed.
3. Seems a lot of money for an unstable and full of bugs software. Seems that if one bug is getting fixed a dozend others appear. "That will be fixed in the next release" I cannot hear this again and again. They took a lot of money from their customers for a beta and unstable shopsystem. I fixed a lot of bugs by myself spend a lot of time sticking into it, and with the next updated version the same and other bugs appear again. I wasted a lot of time and a lot of money. Very sad story, sorry but I have to say that redcomponent isn´t woth at all. Too expensive for a lot of bugs, no multilanguage support with unprofessional arguments, and not even better that virtuemart 1.0. So I have to tell others to check very carefully if the redshop components is the right thing. For me it definetly wasn´t. Sorry I have to point out, but others got the same problem too. Please expect: It will not import products from vm, no attributes, child products, no extra images. You can only check this out if you subscribe with a renewing membership! But it doesn´t work at all! So be carefull because the membership is automatically renew itselfs and charge your account again and again automatically. No cooperation and bad business practise. So beware of your subscription time and automatically renewing membership. (Read in their forum a lot of others have got the problem with the automaticall renewing membership and subscription) Absolutely not normal for buying joomla components. Isn´t it? I have never made any experience in this case at all.
Anyway never again with redshop, maybe if they have build a working component. Their forum is full of complaints. It was confirmed for me. Sorry for redshop. Maybe they take the problems of theis users serious and work on them in a structured way.

1) Thats not true - I have written that its BAD for SEO to use multilingual solutions - which is the absolute truth - if you want to sell something in multiple languages atleast spent the resources on doing invididual sites on individual domains or face the penalities in the search engines for having secondary languages on the same domain.
2) Again not true - We have perhaps the highest response rate on any Joomla component service at all - 98% of all forum posts are answered within 24 hours.
You review isnt a real review and its factually wrong - But i do see you have a tendenacy in making these 1 star reviews in this style.
To be honest, I've never really understood the attraction with VirtueMart. I've used it for 2 years, but only because there was nothing better.
Now, though,, after installing RedShop and having a fully functioning, highly (yet easily) configurable cart up and running in a couple of hours, VM has been consigned to history. It was helped greatly by the facility to import all the VM data with the click of a single button. Well done to the RedShop team for including that little gem.

After a year using redshop for building up a webshop i have to review it relatively poor.
I have to recognize that indeed it is a true fully customizable extension and it has many features very useful for a webshop. There is a very active forum and you have always a quick response from redshop staff and developers.
But, and this is a great but, it does not worth the 300 bucks that it costs. Why? Simply because for 300 bucks you expect a fully finsihed product and a very easy to configure and use product.
If you are not a exprienced webmaster and developer in html / css / php; forget about this extension. To get the custom shop you have in your mind you will have to deal with templates, scripts, confusing configurations, etc. I have had to program and design many features for myself, my own custom SEO, my own templates directly in html/css, i have fixed cart problems, quote system bugs, developed custom pay gateways and possible configurations for email sending.
Great potential indeed, i have done all of that with custom results after some months of work, but... then why pay such amount of money, am i paying for my own work???
Try better a free solution and work over it then. Or simply try oscommerce or prestashop to get a quick and easy to use webshop for non-developers or webmaster users.

If you arent capable of doing some html and css atleast then how did you manage to "program your own seo" etc.
You need to insert the optional tags to create the way you want to have your SEO - you dont need to know html, css or php for that or to do the configuration.
You do need to know html and css if you want to customize the templates - but unlike other systems where you need to be a php developer to do custom templates you can actually do it in redSHOP with only html and css or if your using a wyswiyg you could actually do it in tables from the editor too.
You have a freedom in redSHOP that is beyond anything else - and with that freedom comes a higher demand in configuration etc. but in all fairness then if you download one of our finished templates and follow the guide you can be running in 10 minutes - which shoulndt be that big of a challenge.
I would say that this extension is best of all the available ones for e-commerce. I will start with the pros and cons of this extension. I wont be listing up the features as those can be found from their site:

* Support from the forum, got quick reply from their team.
* Personally, Without User Registration was the feature I wanted and I got it right with this one.
* Promotional emails can be triggered just from the shop with product images etc working as tags, so provides complete solution.
* If you are shipping different size products, then this shop would be handy because it takes into account sizes and volumes to calculate the shipping.
Cons:
* There are many configuration options, but if you just dont touch them unless you need, its fine. Personally, I enabled pre-order while playing and got stock-room down. But disabling did a trick.
* Require basic html knowledge for setting up the templates right.
* Backend UI needs to be bit better (Though the later version is far better then previous ones).
Overall am satisfied with the product as well as support, but just a piece of advice, you need to bit patient to find what you want this shop to do.

This shopping cart is much more than just an extension to help you sell your products but also very integrated complete sales, shipping, payments, users, orders, more more more management system. So many features had been included into it that it is becoming number one shopping cart on the web.
Some of my favorite feature are easy and extensively complete administration of all customers, orders, shipping options, payment modules, coupons!, product types and attributes, etc...
Remember, that it was created mostly by a single person and new joining developers have to learn tons of code that is why updates are not too often but improvements are tremendous!

I have been using several different charts the last couple of years, and Redshop is definitely the best of them all.
It has so many features so I can't imagine what product won't fit here...
