- Based on OSCommerce, single database
How many times have you built a site, and your client asked you for some additional information about users who register for the site? They wanted to collect their mailing address, date of birth, a favorite book or even they just wanted them to accept the terms of service. Unfortunately, in Joomla 1.5, you would have had to install a complex extension like Community Builder to achieve this functionality. Now, however, it's built into Joomla 1.7.
We added 2 plugins and better performance in MarvikShop 2.3.
The first one is a new profile plugin for Joomla 1.6/1.7. The second one will be needed to synchronizes your profile with the MarvikShop adresbook, customers, customers points add-ons etc.
MarvikShop is for 80% Oscommerce and uses the same Database tables. You will be able to install within small changes thousands add-ons available on the Oscommerce site!!
If you want a webshop in Joomla and save your old Oscommerce database.... This is the program for you!

Yes, you need to be familiar with joomla & phpmyadmin. You should be already if you work with OScommerce and Joomla!
This component creates a new oscommerce shop within joomla, which is virtually identical to the admin of oscommerce, so you'll already be familiar with it. Once installed you import your data from your existing oscommerce store into the new joomla marvikshop. As with any shop with many products, its going to be work to tweak and reconfigure where necessary so don't expect to get away without putting any effort into it. Quite frankly, if you cannot manage to work with this then perhaps you shouldn't be trying to develop and manage your own web site, let alone an ecommerce site.
This component is short on documentation, but then I find most components this complicated are - because the developers put all their effort into the component itself and keeping up with improvement requests. The price paid for this is peanuts compared to the effort this developer has put into making it. Thank you Marvikshop!
Injecting the plugins into Joomla was very smooth. The problem arises when you try to implement/use its properties.
I had to correct some php erros. The seller has a working guide for installation but no instruction for implementation.
If I did know, I would not use this even it was free, cause it is very time consumable.
After many hours of trying to work with them I am done. My notes to them are:
Suggestion - Fix the problems!
Marvick Shop: When you sell a Module or Plugin you should be able to upload it and it works. You shouldn't have to mess with code in order to make it work. Anyone, new or seasoned, should be able to upload and use your application. Shame on you for producing a product that doesn't work out of the box. You should notify customers that you need to be an expert in Joomla and PHP before purchasing this product.
If the tweaks and fixes worked, I wouldn't be writing this right now. But, they don't. They only uncover additional problems with the application. Shame on you!
This review has nothing to do with the program itself. But the installation procedure of a component in Joomla. The guy is new at Joomla and got problems with uploading the program to the server of Godaddy. Because of the directory permissions. He never came to edit the files because he got problems with the dir. permission. Now he gives MarvikShop the fault and that's not right. A review should be going about the program, not about the installation of a component in Joomla within Godaddy.
I'm sorry I did. This component should be available for FREE; it is not worth the $45 US dollars I paid for it.
It has a lot of great features.
1. First, I'm NO Newbie to Joomla. This cart is very hard to setup. After you install the component, you have to edit some lines in about 2-3 php files, then another file before creating the database. This is not going to work for someone who does not have or like editing .php files.
2. next, there is no documentation. There is a forum with not much information. I was able to debug some of the errors from their forum.
3. The component has to many bugs. It is a version 1.0. I wasted a whole day just trying to figure out how to fix the bugs, and get the thing going.
4. Images do not display correctly. You have do something else to some files and folders to get it to work.
5. Lack of Support. As i stated there is a forum, but when you post your issue, the support team or developer will give you very, very short answers to what is going on.
Overall, I wasted time and money that I know I won't get refunded (because I put in a request, and still no answer from them). As a 1.0 the developer should just make this Shopping Cart Free until they get it right.
I had to spend more money, and purchase Redshop which I wish I would've purchased first.
You've been Warned.
