Thx for this excellent extension. It's very usefull and easy to install. Great job.
The only drawback is that it is hard to read on templates with dark background and light letters
Owner's reply

Thanks for the review. In the future i am going to add some more control over the look and feel. Hopefully this will address peoples concern with darker templates.

First, thank you VERY much for donating your time for such a great cause.

There are a lot of sites out on the Internet that offer unsigned artists a place to sell their music, but all of them charge high fees and/ or take a big chunk from each sale.

Maian Music is the perfect solution... it allows an artist to sell direct, without having to pay a middleman.

Easy to install
Breeze to setup
Very flexible
Very tweak-able
Great navigation
Smooth cart flow
The list goes on...

Yes, I made a donation, not only because of a job well done, but also because I really appreciate that you donated your time to help out unsigned artists (for the record, I'm not a musician, but have built sites for friends that are unsigned artists).

I have no idea how ANYBODY could ever give this extension a bad review. I've used many, many extensions, both free and paid, and this one ranks among the best I've ever used.

Thanks for the review. I know this isn't the best piece of software in the world but I put a lot of time into making it native for Joomla 1.5. My day job demands a lot of me and so does my home life and on top of that I'm a musician. It's hard to manage my time to support this thing. I've been in the same boat as a lot of starving artist out there and that is the only reason why I keep on trucking. The beer money from donations help a bit to :) Thanks again.

No. Folders set-up is a catastrophy. Upload is not quite comfortable... lots of writing instead of read in the mp3 tags. Very often Error 500 Messages. When you get the shop after hours of work to work you can select your tracks you can buy it via paypal, but when the customer tries to download it, there are 0 tracks to download and file does not exist. Great! ( System check says: All ok!) The forum is the same shame, many topics cannot be read due to Error 500 messages, some can be read but there are unimportant. In my opinion this extensions should be kicked out here. It's the worst ext. on this page ever.

I put 6 months of my off time into creating this component which is FREE!!! Maybe you should use Itunes or something else to sell your downloads. It is obvious that you can't read or have any basic sense of file navigation. I have said over and over again use the absolute path for the mp3 downloads and the previews should be in your joomla install.

The upload was added as a convince and so was the systems check so I would not get that same question over and over again from people how can’t figure out what the location to a folder means because they use these fly by night hosting services. but maybe I should remove it and just have people upload there tracks via ftp like the 1.0. if you can't figure out how file paths are set up then it is not my obligation to teach you.

Many people have different server configuration and I can't account for all of them. If you are getting a file does not exist error then you don't know what you are doing point blank. I provide free support but that is about to change. I am not going to waist my time supporting something that is free for ungrateful people like you. You could have posted your problem on the support board I and would of got to it eventually.

As far as the forum I am using fireboard and that has a bunch of problems within it's self.

I have spent some time with this extension over the last 3 Months and must ssy that I am impressed with the quality of Maian Music.

The support is great and the forums have answers to most questions that arise.

I like it alot. Its very easy to install and use. The one thing i would say is to remove the extra navigation bar with the Cart information as it destorys the themes.

The extra navigation bar should be put into a module, or be made more friendly to templates with a "thin" body.

Overall Great

Thankyou
Paul

Thanks for the review and your suggestion. I'm will add that functionality the All In One Module.

If you are looking for a quick, easy and effective solution for selling music on your Joomla powered site then look no further. Maian Music is an unbelievable powerful module that installs with a minimum of fuss - and best of all, Maian Music is FREE.

Well done guys!
Simply the best way to sell your mp3s on Joomla! I had this great component up and running in less than 20 minutes on my Joomla1.0 site with no problems and am running the beta version on my Joomla1.5 site.
Being a Scotsman I find it difficult to part with money, but this component was so good that I instantly sent a donation.
Owner's reply

Thanks for the review!!! I'm glad to see that it worked for you. Also thanks for the donation. I'm working hard to make Maian Music better and allow people to be able to promote there websites. There will be a lot of changes on Are Times by the end of the year.

I think it's a great component and, quite frankly, the only quality one available.

A few technical problems i.e. when I change the price of the music in an album, it doesnt save all the changes made. resulting in me having to delete the whole album and add. (same if I wanted to change the option of single purchase - it doesnt save all changes per track).

Also, when singles arent allowed to be purchased individually, it says 'not available for download.' which may confuse a lot of buyers. especially with the 'no entry sign' symbol next to them. Something more like 'Not available for single purchase' would make more sense and a slightly diffrent symbol, like a blue arrow.

Also, it would be great if there was a clear-cut way to add the album to cart - a simple 'ADD ALBUM TO CART' button, and/or 'BUY NOW' button would really improve it all round. The current 'Add All Tracks to Cart' way doesn't really grasp the essence of adding an actual ALBUM to cart.

One more thing also, the albums listed in my store sell for i.e £9.99, it contains 15 tracks at £0.79 each. In order to make the album £9.99 I have to find a very particular percentage in order to make the whole album £9.99 and it tells the customer they are saving 15.6% - which leads to confusion cos that makes them assume that the album costs 15.6% more in other stores - all in all it would be great if the price of an album can just be typed in (i.e. 9.99) and maybe a possibilty of a special or sale price.

I look forward to updates or newer versions and hope you consider some of my points/suggestions.

I look forward to giving more generous donations too.

Thank you
Owner's reply

Thanks for the review and honest feedback. I am going to make some updates in future versions as well.

This script has everything you need to set up your own MP3 download shop, utilizing PayPal micropayments (So the artist makes as much profit from every sale as is currently possible online).

Follow the instructions for setting up paths to downloads and previews carefully, but don't be intimidated. It's pretty straightforward and there's plenty of help on the support forum.

I customized the CSS for the component and it fit into my page seamlessly. There are great tools available for those unfamiliar with CSS (Such as CSSEdit, etc) that will allow them to do the same.

Give Maian Music a try, and if you like it, kick a little something back to the developer. After all, it's free!
This is a very useful extension. It is easy to install, and works well. It does take a little tweaking, so read the forums very carefully and you will usually find an answer. If not, ask the admin... he provides the best support I've ever experienced!! And it's FREE!
Please make a donation to- www.aretimes.com -he deserves it!

The site I built using Maian Music: www.g7rap.com
I have installed this application on my Joomla 1.5 installation, I had a few issues and when i contacted the Maian Music support team i got a first class service, a customer support second to none.

I,m really impressed with this application, i have tried several top name carts and had nothing but bother or was lacking in customer support..not this ap creator, This by far blows them away and works great.

Don't bother looking for any other applications for selling your mp3s online

THIS IS BRILLIANT/SUPERB/FANTASTIC/ESSENTILA FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO SELL MUSICMP3S ONLINE.

Forget Itunes use Maian Music and best of all

This component is top-notch. Install was smooth, connected to paypal instantly and configures nicely. It's also super easy to customize.

Support is #1. I had a minor issue but Arelowo was on top of it within 24hrs.

Thanks for the great component.
First, would say the extension is really easy to use and configure, no headache.
It does exactly what it supposed to be : let you sell mp3 on your website, it includes preview, etc. Great job...

Second, the support is litteraly amazing. Iv never seen such a pro, available and quick support for a non commercial extension. Great support

Greatest ! big up to 'Ace' Alao.
bymedaswho on January 6, 2009
This component is easy to use. No guess work it's very intuitive!! It IS what lot's of components claim to be! You will NOT be disappointed with this!
Support is excellent too. I have had a couple of questions(not problems) of the developer and they were answered very quickly.
This component is one of the best ones out there... It give you many options, it's not confusing, and it's not nearly as much of a headache as Virtuemart. This is the best offer for musicians wanting to sell music on there website.
Don't know where to start. Ok. If you have a gr8 support for your product, then this is what it takes. I would say it is the greatest support I have ever got dealing with joomla. Big giants like VM just fail with support. Its a new component and sure it is, I didn't get it to work straight away, but Alao himself got his hands muddy and fixed it overnight! This is by all means the best component in its kind. If you install it and if it fails for whatever reason, then you can be sure with help from Alao you will get it working fast! If you are a musician, or want to sell mp3-s you won't regret running this gr8 component.
bygypsygirl94 on October 17, 2008
I really like this component. Needed some help, but got it right away. Wish it was a little bit more customizable, but it is the best I've found for selling music since it comes with the great preview option.
Having found a few coding issues after the installation of the component on my site, I posted on the authors forum about the issues and this was resolved, complete with how-to instructions, the very next day.

I'd definitely recommend this add-on if you are looking for a simple but elegant way to add paid-for music downloads to your site. Hopefully soon there will be a 1.5 native version available, I'll be keeping an eye on the development of this very useful component.
byomkar on September 30, 2008
My respect to Alao for this project !
There are many musicians like me running Joomla and waiting for a working solution, under GPL license, to have a little corner integrated for offering a few MP3 downloads.
I established VirtueMart just because there is nothing else
and I can`t describe how painful it was. I will never do this again ... So my 5 stars as a general statement for the fact someone is going into this. My current testing was a short one, since I cannot install on 1.5 legacy. Error: XML Parsing Error at 334:61. Error 23: EntityRef: expecting ';' ... I will be excited to see this available for 1.5 native
Owner's reply

Thank you omkar. I didn't test the installer for 1.5 which is what is causing the error. I am going to fix this A.S.A.P. Thanks for the reivew.
