This component is a little gem and very simple to install (what a relief after the bloat ware experienced by other components). There was only one hiccup which was caused by the fact that the seller had a premier and not a business PayPal account which brought up a 3005 message when implementing the software but once upgraded the problem was solved. PayPal Subscription Pro is worth every penny and also offers a good level of support. I am looking forward to further releases!

Alright, I'm going to give a pretty extensive review of this product, because I had a hard time finding something that worked in this way.

I run a community, that consists of Joomla, with Kunena message boards. I wanted new members to sign up and have to pay to create an account (Yearly membership), and each year it automatically renews via paypal.

This plugin did EXACTLY that.

I had it installed and working within 20 minutes. All you need is Joomla installed, and a paypal account.

#1. install the module/plugin, create a new menu item/page that points to the module
#2. disable registration on your site via the login module
#3. hacked my kunena message board "register" link to redirect to the PayPal Module
#4. hacked my login module, so that the register also pointed to the PayPal Pro page
#5. set up subscriptions, I did a 1 year subscription, and also a free trial that turns into one. I clicked off "recurring" so it automatically will renew the subscription (this hasn't happened yet since it's so new, but i've been told it does it)

when the user "registers" they're directed to paypal, where they login, pay the $20. paypal then sends a message back to your Joomla site, that creates an account for that user with their paypal email address, then sends that email address, the login credentials. Simple as that.

So bottom line, if you're looking for a tool to force people to pay to register for your Joomla site, this one works really well, and is really easy to use.

Features I'd like to see:
- customization of emails sent
- a better way to lay out the registration page with the subscription buttons
- reminder emails where you can set the date to send out a reminder to renew the subscription (although since mine are recurring this shouldn't matter I don't think)

Also should note the developer always returned my emails within 24 hours, despite the number of repeat and pretty obvious questions I asked. I would definitely recommend again.

I must say it saved me a lot of time

Instaled without any problems.Easy to configure.
We got a positive feedback from the subscribers, they were happy that registration process doesn't require a lot data input.
Runs properly after setup.
Had couple of questions, their support team responded promptly.

I am waiting for future releases.
Although the component installed and was configured without a problem and the download link was instantly sent to me, I feel it seriously lacks in features. The price was a bit much for what I got to be honest.
There is no integration with the Joomla! login system or usergroups really. In other words, if you have, for example, Remository installed and restrict downloads to Registered users, there is no way for this component to stop a person from registering and gaining access to the downloads. The only way I could do this was to restrict downloads to the "Author" usergroup and set the Subscriber group as "Author".

It has huge potential. However, as mentioned, for $39.89 USD, it's a bit pricy and really over-rated.
Price should come down or more features added.
Just my 2c.

User needs, differ from one case to another. We want to maintain a certain flexibility for a better user experience. This is why we didn't restrict users from subscribing, and this is why there are different levels of users groups.
And as you mentioned you found a solution to your need.

Our component offers integration with both the Joomla login and the user groups.

We are constantly working on improving our component.
Find out our developing plan at http://www.mgsoftware.ca/future-developments.html

Advantages:
1. Relatively easy to set up.
2. Numerous ways to customize your subscription plans, including ability to assign various user levels to subscribers, trial periods (or not), ability to use your WYSIWYG text editor to write the subscription description.
3. Works well once set up.

Disadvantages:
1. The PayPal IPN url generated by the component was incorrect. The developer was happy to help fix it.
2. The documentation for the component is very minimal. The developer became less and less responsive and I continued to ask questions. I still don't know how to use a couple features.
3. There are 2 emails generated to the subscriber - a welcome email and a cancellation email. There is no "your subscription is about to expire" email. There's no way to customize these emails, and the ones automatically generated have punctuation errors. If you're comfortable modifying the HTML code yourself, you could customize them.
3. There is no way to offer coupons or discounts using coupon codes.
4. Paying for this component does not include updates. The developer offers a subscription for updates for $100/3 months.

Email customization will be available in our next release.

I cannot give this a good rating as it did not work for me even after attempting to test it. The user manual is sparse, but it's a component in need of work. It took me a week to get the component after some errors made on the part of the developer. After that time, attempts to get the component to work with paypal's IPN failed. At first I thought it was something on my end, but after contacting paypal they showed me that it was not related to the information I had input.

After paying for the product, I was quickly sent a link to download. Installed without any problem. Had a few questions and their support team answered promptly. Needed a few minor changes and the developer delivered. Good value here. -Rick
