This plugin will render textile markup correctly(including SmartyPants extensions).
This beautifully rendered the sample textile document in all its glory with no errors I could see. I can enter/edit in textile on an iPad (i used it with JAM! lite) or iPhone.
The only drawback is that only web display is rendered. RSS feeds, editor previews, and PDFs get the raw markup. But hey, it's free!
Having struggled with WYSIWYG editors in the past, I think people that want to be seriously productive writing Joomla articles should consider this or a Markdown solution instead of WYSIWYG.
