CodeMirror Plugin

CodeMirror is a code editor for your Joomla! site which helps you have a pleasant experience for writing your articles using HTML.

It can highlight the code of a lot of languages (HTML being the primary interest for Joomla!) show you mismatched tags and also helps you have a clear indentation for your code.

This editor will also ship in Joomla! 1.6 core package.

CodeMirror JavaScript editor is originally written by Marijn Haverbeke and kindly released as a free software.

This plugin is lovely. It takes out the step of copying and pasting my code from Joomla into a code editor like Dreamweaver. The colors are in place to quickly identify HTML errors. Easy to configure and a relief. No wonder it ships with core. Thank you.

This plugin has breathed new life into Joomla for programmers.

Up until finding CodeMirror, I had always been using the WYSIWYG and then pressing the "Source" button to do all my revisions. It was like working in a bad version of Notepad.

Enter CodeMirror, where it's more like working in gedit with HTML tag colorations and automatic indenting. Absolutely brilliant.

The one problem I find, without diving into it, is that it doesn't seem to work with Virtuemart: when editing products, if CodeMirror is my default editor in global config, the editor does not display at all for the product. I may dive into the code, but for now I'll just use it for articles. This may very well be a problem with VirtueMart and not CodeMirror; but I haven't looked into it.

Despite that one bit of trouble, thank you for this plugin! It has made working within Joomla a pleasure.

You know how all these JCE and JCK modify your HTML source code and make it look like cr** by putting all your code in one very long line? And no matter how you try to find the plugins and ways of overriding it, it just does not stop doing it? Everyone says JCK is better than JCE, but noooo, maybe the commercial version yes. Actually come to think about it, all of them have something other does not.

I am an HTML source code lover. I just love it when I open source view and everything is neat and tidy. Joomla is not HTML tidy at all.

However, I was about to cry from happiness when this CodeMirror editor did not change any of my HTML tags, didn't removed empty tags, nor did any other annoying things. And it has color distinction!

So I guess, at this point, this editor wins for the BEST HTML editor. What prevents JCE or JCK from implementing something as clean as this editor into their own system? With them, even when you switch off the HTML Cleanup option, they still do some nasty things to your code, but not this easy and nice plugin. Thank you, thank you!

I've been using XHTML Kit for years to edit websites and love the syntax highlighting.

I ran a quick test (VERY quick) on this and it does what it says on the tin.

Fantastic.

Now this is what I call an editor. This had made it so easy for me to work on my site. If Tiny gives you problems (like it has with me a few times) then this is THE editor for you. Top class. Thank you for this.
