my name is Laurent, I'm actually finishing my 80th website with joomla (installation / extensions integration / custom develloppement / design outsourced).
I first tried the free version which I was not able to install on my website.
I then looked at the commercial version, thinking it maybe was more 'finished'.
Everybody here must know the only difference between the free and commercial version is a display with tabs on the back office ... not a single other enhancement or debug.
It's supposed to be, when you pay the 39 $ version as I did, kind of premium support.
After 6 days, no answer, neither for my mail, neither from the support I contacted via the form on the website, neither on the forum (my posts are still up, but you can visit this forum only if you register).
So do not buy it, it's useless, free and commercial are the same and the support si absent in both cases.
Unless this message here get's them to move...
Laurent
I downloaded the software, installed, configured, and everything is working great. It's a pretty powerful add on for CB.
I had a quick question so I emailed support ( i paid for 3 months of support and updates ) and the developer emailed me back almost immediately.
Great support is the #1 thing you can have for your business, and they have that. Which makes it all the better.
A+ Component and A+ support.
A big thank you to the guys at dutch development for making this wonderful component. Their support has also being excellent and instant.
Good thing that it's free and supplied under GPL.
Keep it up !!
For CB users, PROMA provides this missing functionality in an easy to use package. Creating multiple profile types and registration forms is quick and efficient. Complex access control functions can be applied to any profile element, even if your knowledge of SQL is limited. Additionally, the integration with JACL and AEC is fantastic. To echo a previous reviewer, I highly recommend the use of PROMA and AEC as a cost effective alternative to CBSubs. Unless you have several hundred extra £ (GBPs) lying around that you don't know what to do with, you owe it to yourself to try out this combo.
Around a year ago, some reviewers had complaints about support. i can't vouch for anything that's happened in the past, but my experiences with CMS Tiger support have been fantastic. Nick, one of the developers, truly went above and beyond to get my questions answered and my one minor technical issue solved. We exchanged dozens of emails over a few days. First I was provided with a workaround, and then a resolution to my situation. Furthermore, he was polite and courteous throughout the process. I did not encounter any of the snarky comments or "holier-then-thou" attitude many of us frequently receive when asking for support.
Overall, a great product at a reasonable price. If you need multiple profile types on your site, I highly recommend this extension. If you need the unencoded version, its probably worth the extra $20 to get it. Compared to the alternatives, this is still a fantastic value.
I spend somewhat 30 USD on the fist site and lost my membership. Writing them an email asking for access permission to the new site was unfruitful. So I bought a new subscription with no encryption for 45 USD. They said this version is stable – but it’s not.
Following the forum post there are still many unsolved issues and the fact that this component actually hacks CB core files is not clearly mentioned on the page either. Buying a commercial “stable“ component and getting a buggy solution is annoying.
I used the component on a fresh Joomla installation and have many bugs. This component is clearly not an expert solution for someone that is looking for a scalable yet sophisticated community… very buggy indeed and the support is rather poor. Have asked a question in the forum and no reply for days!
I advice anyone to wait for the Community Builder Profile Pro 2.0 that will bring you all what you need without hacks and managed in a smart way. Or you will spend many hours fixing bugs in PROMA.
I can only rate this component 2 stars, for its basic idea but the implementation lacks professionalism – unfortunately.
I don`t know why you do that, but ok. You purchased proma, than you had some trouble with it, that are caused of your server and not on proma and without contacting our support, you went 3 hours after purchasing proma to paypal and opened a dispute to get your money back. Is this the right way? We have so many lucky users with this software and got so many good reviews in the last month and you are the only one, who had trouble. By the way, i don`t think it is correct, that you give a second review at the same extension. I know that you are the user "socialfan" and i will report this and this review to joomla.org, because you gave us a review month ago. It isn`t our problem, if you are not able to install joomla components correctly and havn`t the time to contact our support.
Installed and working on Joomla 1.5.11, CB 1.2 without problems.
Thank you very much for your excellent and quick support.
With Proma you get a component with partly encrypted code - and we all know from the past, what happens, if the devoloper disappears:
No more support, no updates and no way to fix problems yourself.
So my decision is clear : I only pay for complete open source !
Sorry to hear this but at our website it is clearly indicated that our component uses the Ioncube loaders. You should have read this prior to purchasing. Also our software is stable as is, there is no modification needed nor fixing problems as they don´t exist. And not all files are encrypted, the ones that are encrypted are mainly the core functions of Proma. All other files are customizable.
their support is 2nd to none and quick. Get this component if you truly want a diverse Community Social system.
thanks Joomlashake for making my week!
It was well worth the wait. This plugin for CB 1.2 is incredible. And I'll have to say that the support is pretty unbelievable too.
I had an post installation issue and posted it in their forums and within 5 minutes had a reply. I ended up having to send my admin. login info. to them and they logged in and got it fixed for me.
As I said in the title, this is a must have plugin for CB. Once you get it you will be wondering how you ever got along without it.
Even if you don't use multiple profiles, just the ability for users to change CB template styles and arrange their own profiles is well worth it.
It is the best $30 component I have bought. I am not sure how anyone can have a serious social network site without this component. Enough Said.
Most people also do not understand that PROMA has been in a alpha / beta stage for quite sometime. Any complaints you read should be taken lightly - as most of the errors have since been corrected.
In fact, when I contacted the developer about errors in a pre-release, he responded shortly after with another update or an updated file. There was one issue we were not able to pin-down, but after more people responded having the same error and more data was able to be provided - a fix was available.
Nobody can complain that the component is IONCUBED anymore - even the new official CB subs component - which offers much of the same capabilities as PROMA + AEC - is IONCUBED (and about 20 times more expensive for an unlimited version). And yes, I'd be the first to admit I hate not having open source - but I understand the reasons why it is encrypted.
The bottom line is that this is a great component, with much undeserved reviews. It's been a long road, but it was worth it. Without this, my site would be just another site. Instead, my site has real potential. I can offer my users what they love - the ability to customize and self express - something not even the "holy grail" CB subs offers.
PROMA + AEC = FTW.
My setup: J! 1.5.10, CB 1.2 stable, AEC 12.6RC2, PROMA 2.0 RC1
P.s. - the dev is now working on a new Kunena plugin / hack that is an effective permissions system - allowing you to set read / write permissions based on a CB profile type through PROMA. I'm testing now..
I purchased this extension since I was looking for something like this but soon realized that it would have been much better if I had spent sometime coding it myself. It has numerous bugs and that too kind of fundamental programming bugs which even students take care which doing school projects. Of course, you do not get source code hence my above comment is based on the errors we noticed in Apache and PHP logs. This is the worst part, you can't even go and fix the code yourself since it's encoded using ioncube.
Later I realized that many of my plugins and other extensions are not working as expected after installing this extension. After some debugging, I came to know that this extension was throwing some fatal errors due to which other plugins were not getting loaded. Once I disabled this, everything started working as earlier.
After all this, I expected some support from the guy who created this extension but there is no response from even after sending detailed issue details. Looks like he doesn't bother once you have purchased this. We have worked with more screwed up commercial scripts and extensions but either we had source code or good support(if not excellent). Unfortunately, here you'll get no support and no source code so I would not recommend this extension to even developers. Others buy this at your own risk :-)
We are working on the stable version which will come out soon. Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you. We are focusing on the latest release of CB and adapting our component accordingly. Ioncube is the only form of protection we use to avoid seeing our component appear on warez forums. Not all files are encoded, just the core featues, the rest is customizable.
This extension needs so more work before going online. Waited for 2 months... new release still pending...
While answers to a lot of questions when one is a subscriber are fast and accurate some of the more core ones to getting this functional are not.
At least part of the problem is that is assumes a good knowledge of MySQL queries on the admin's part and the examples in the manual are so small that they can't be read. Also the package I got says it includes the samples which it did not.
A bit clearer documentation and including the base queries would help immensely. So would a place in the forum or elsewhere on the site for people to show their own recipes. Also needed.
The frustrating thing is that the idea is great, the coding itself is very good but there needs to be a little more attention shown to documentation and support for such a potentally complex and useful extention.
Until that happens I'll, sadly leave the manual on the corner of the desk and move on.
