We implemented Profile Manager in our environment - Joomla! 1.5.10, CB 1.2 - from prerelease 7 on. After some initial problems, which the developer resolved very quick and enthusiastic, we got with Profile Manager RC 2 a very good and stable component. Profile Manager now meets all our requirements and more.

While it is true, the developer sometimes lacks communication - but he does not lack in support. I also feel that people have not recognized this company as a subscription based venture instead of a product based venture.

Most people also do not understand that PROMA has been in a alpha / beta stage for quite sometime. Any complaints you read should be taken lightly - as most of the errors have since been corrected.

In fact, when I contacted the developer about errors in a pre-release, he responded shortly after with another update or an updated file. There was one issue we were not able to pin-down, but after more people responded having the same error and more data was able to be provided - a fix was available.

Nobody can complain that the component is IONCUBED anymore - even the new official CB subs component - which offers much of the same capabilities as PROMA + AEC - is IONCUBED (and about 20 times more expensive for an unlimited version). And yes, I'd be the first to admit I hate not having open source - but I understand the reasons why it is encrypted.

The bottom line is that this is a great component, with much undeserved reviews. It's been a long road, but it was worth it. Without this, my site would be just another site. Instead, my site has real potential. I can offer my users what they love - the ability to customize and self express - something not even the "holy grail" CB subs offers.

PROMA + AEC = FTW.

P.s. - the dev is now working on a new Kunena plugin / hack that is an effective permissions system - allowing you to set read / write permissions based on a CB profile type through PROMA. I'm testing now..

As I mentioned in the review title, only good thing about this extension is the idea behind it. Someone already summarized it all in few words - a poor execution.

I purchased this extension since I was looking for something like this but soon realized that it would have been much better if I had spent sometime coding it myself. It has numerous bugs and that too kind of fundamental programming bugs which even students take care which doing school projects. Of course, you do not get source code hence my above comment is based on the errors we noticed in Apache and PHP logs. This is the worst part, you can't even go and fix the code yourself since it's encoded using ioncube.

Later I realized that many of my plugins and other extensions are not working as expected after installing this extension. After some debugging, I came to know that this extension was throwing some fatal errors due to which other plugins were not getting loaded. Once I disabled this, everything started working as earlier.

After all this, I expected some support from the guy who created this extension but there is no response from even after sending detailed issue details. Looks like he doesn't bother once you have purchased this. We have worked with more screwed up commercial scripts and extensions but either we had source code or good support(if not excellent). Unfortunately, here you'll get no support and no source code so I would not recommend this extension to even developers. Others buy this at your own risk :-)

Wow this extension did so much for my site, but yet it wasnt quite up to speed when it came to the new 1.5.9.
This extension needs so more work before going online. Waited for 2 months... new release still pending...

This has the potential to be a good product to deal with the challenges and issues of running a full fledges social networking site, big or small, though there's a flaw in the execution.

While answers to a lot of questions when one is a subscriber are fast and accurate some of the more core ones to getting this functional are not.

At least part of the problem is that is assumes a good knowledge of MySQL queries on the admin's part and the examples in the manual are so small that they can't be read. Also the package I got says it includes the samples which it did not.

A bit clearer documentation and including the base queries would help immensely. So would a place in the forum or elsewhere on the site for people to show their own recipes. Also needed.

The frustrating thing is that the idea is great, the coding itself is very good but there needs to be a little more attention shown to documentation and support for such a potentally complex and useful extention.

Until that happens I'll, sadly leave the manual on the corner of the desk and move on.

I know that this extension has received some bad press and I honestly don't think it has been warranted. I have ALWAYS found the support quick and thorough. Yes, it has had a few hiccups along the way, but the developers are very eager to address the concerns and correct the issues. The $40 this product requires for registration is a mere drop in the bucket with the tools and options that it provides. I am currently beta testing the CB 1.2 4 version and the developers are working around the clock to address any concerns we may have. I KNOW that this will be a must have product for anyone using CB!!! Way to go JoomlaShake...This product literally was the answer to my prayer!!!

This component never worked and was bugged from start. It was possible to use the component after fixing a few issues however it doesn’t work with the new CB RC4 API (which is said to be stable) so the component is useless at this point. I am only writing this negative review because the owners announced that they will release a new version by the end of 08. However what they have done instead was switching off the forum leaving everyone in the dark that were eagerly awaiting the release. Thumbs down* for this crude behavior and a non working component.

This component had a very good idea, but only if it works like they said it does. The actual software hasn't been updated since Oct.17 2008 and you actually subscribe to beta test for them.

Support is very poor, the extent of the support is answered with "an update is coming in a couple days" that day hasn't come for 2 months.

I really wished this component was even close to being RC.

During the upgrade from APC to Profile Manager, we experienced a flawed installation. White screens...

Well long story short, when we had initially implementing CB 1.1, we had inadvertently created errors in the CB database doing a manual import.

Before you install or attempt to upgrade APC to PROMA, be sure your CB database is error free using the database tools provided by Joomlapolis.

Once this was done the conversion went perfectly and the APC is now converted to Profile Manager and is operating well.

I am building a new community site and have had a look for a component, which allows me to create different profiles for my users.

Knowing that I needed something special, I looked around for a while and I found it! This component is a huge instrument to manage my profiles and building different profile types for my community.

Of course, the first beta release for CB 1.2 have had a few bugs and wasn`t easy to install, but the guys worked hard on it and release a new one, which works incredible. Also the support had a little bit of lack during the first time, but the developers gave reasons for this, even the hard work for bug fixing in the last weeks.

Now it is awesome. I honestly recommend this extension and i am very satisfied.

Excellent extension. A must have for any Community Builder or social networking website. I implemented this extension successfully at my website and I couldn't be happier. Support is excellent-fast response times and step by step help. Well worth the money.

These developers really came in and put together a an excellent component which turns the already impressive Community Builder into a powerhouse of a system. This functionality is key in the internet's latest social networking revolution, and the effects of the web's newest business models.

Support from these guys was perfect with quick and efficient help.

I would definitely recommend this component to anyone, based solely on the response received when needing support!
