Extension Specific, VirtueMart extensions

VirtueMart Full Category List Menu Module is a Joomla module that can display the entire category structure of your virtuemart store, including all levels of subcategories, as a fully CSS customizable structured unordered list. As of version 1.1.0 (April 27, 2010), you can now specify any range of category levels that you wish to display (i.e., top-level only, 2nd to 4th level, etc).

  • Get this

The output is modeled on the Tree List output of the extended menu joomla module (like the "Flat List" output of the default Joomla menu module). The list could be styled, for example, like the Son of Suckerfish css dropdown menu or as a site map. It is comparable to the Phoca VirtueMart Category List Module, though this module is not limited to only the root categories.

Release notes for version 1.2.0 (2012-07-26):
• The module is now VirtueMart 2.x and Joomla 2.x compatible
• Added a much-requested feature to make it possible to filter the menu by the current category, so that the menu can “follow” the user as they drill down through your web shop’s categories

For version 1.1.1c (2012-01-30):
• Very minor update: added category ID into CSS class for links so they can be individually styled if necessary

For version 1.1.1 (2010-05-25):
• Minor update: added parameter to select a category to display (w. subcategories, if applicable), and fixed a very small bug in the helper functions.
• A couple minor fixes (see changelog)

For version 1.1.0 (2010-04-27):
• SEF url support has been improved (uses very robust logic to determine the best Itemid to use for each link, which is what determines how your SEF urls will appear).
• The module has been refactored to use the standard J!1.5 MVC structure, and the html it outputs can now be overridden by a template output override.
• New features of this version include the option to control what levels the menu displays (i.e., top-level only, 2nd to 3rd level, etc).

Not true

I downloaded this only because it supposedly allowed to control the order to display (either the order specified in the backend or alphabetical). Huge and frustrating Lie.

Simple but functional

Posted on 11 January 2014

I just installed it and it works fine. Very simple but enough configuration options to let it work as you want.

One minor problem: At top-level categories a warning message may be shown if error output is enabled by PHP.

As mentioned by other revewers, this should be the default category module for Virtuemart. I installed it for VM2 and it works fine. You can choose the start and the end level of categories. The tree is rendered as unordered list which is classic for Joomla. Phoca catdtree module (which i found to be the only competition) brings too much css+js with it which makes it harder to style. And the output there (the view) is impossiblr to override as it is done by string variable passed from the model. So this module is reaaly the one to install on VirtueMart2.

The module works perfect on all other pages except on the child category pages. Ex- When this module is published in 'left' position and when i click on the the parent category, module is shown, but when i click on the child category shown in module itself, the module disappear. The module is assigned to all menus still not working for me. :(

Not Working

Posted on 23 May 2012

This module is not updated with the current development cycle of virtuemart.

for executing it still need some files which are only present in the older version of virtuemart.

This module need the virtuemart_parser.php which is not present in new versions of virtuemart.

Owner's reply: The module is not compatible with VirtueMart 2.x, though it is fully compatible with VirtueMart 1.x. I am sorry that in your opinion, this fact means that the quality of the module is worth 1 star. I disagree, of course. Instead, I would encourage you to use the support information on my website to get in touch with me and let me know if you have a problem or question about the module, particularly with any specific suggestions, like removing the module’s dependency on a particular file.

Module is perfect, it creates a module like the default Joomla! menu module with the same controls.

The menu works fine just if you have 1 category.

if you have more categories, in the second level of virtuemart categories it shows just the menu of the first category..

tring to get support since 1 month but no answer..

Owner's reply: I’m sorry you had trouble with the module. The latest version is both more stable and offers more parameters to control how the module outputs your shop’s categories, and may solve any issues you have.

Also, I must acknowledge that I am not always able to offer support for this entirely free and open-source module. I am careful to respond to email support requests when I am not too overwhelmed by my actual job, but I cannot promise consistency. So it goes with small freely offered open-source pieces of software like this one.

I just wonder why VM doesn't provide a useful menu list right away. With this module I *finally* got a usable category menu.

Only thing missing is folding sub-categories. Can be fixed with a bit of css, but would be nice if it was right there, ideally as an option.

Thank you!

I like it!

This is a MUST for every VM site

Very nice module! Something like that should be standard in VM!

Important feature request: Only the subcategories from actual selected / opened category should be shown, not all sub-cats (maybe selectable as option in the mod config).

MooTools Accordion

MooAccordion makes it very easy to add MooTools accordion slides (show/hide blocks) to any article, which can be used to organize and display content more effectively (like in a FAQ page). The syntax is simple and easy to use. Features include: • adds minimal markup (and intelligently strips unnecessary markup added by editors like tinyMCE and JCE, if present) to keep the html clean and valid • uses Joomla core MooTools library, which means this plugin adds no HTTP requests, minimizes dependencies, prevents JS conflicts, and makes it very lightweight • adds CSS class for active block title, allowing you to toggle it's icon (for ex, from a + to a - icon— visit http://www.acusti.ca/mooaccordion-css-show-hide-demo-tutorial for a tutorial on how to do so); more generally, the markup is fully CSS customizable • very easy for anyone to use (without technical knowledge) and very flexible • the show/hide effects and other settings are easily customizable from the plugin's configuration • compatible with IE 6-9, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc. The plugin is similar to JoomlaWork’s Tabs & Slides (in content items) Plugin, the plugin I originally used before being inspired to write this one. My biggest problem with the JW plugin was that when I added the plugin syntax into an article, the plugin would create invalid markup from it, because the WYSIWIG editor automatically wrapped it in an element. Also, it seemed foolish to use an old accordion script rather than the built-in accordion plugin that Joomla already comes with. This plugin solves those issues, and does so efficiently and robustly.
