Thanks for a such grat addon! Its realy powerfull gmaps engine.

And i have one little question. After clicking on marker it show cloud with decription etc., but also with "your adress" box. Can i disable it ?
Owner's reply

"Get Directions" can be disabled in Configuration > Info > Settings. By the way, version 1.1.0 with even more features is coming soon (I hope).

I have to agree with Royce. This looks like a very promising extension. I too am experienced with Joomla, programming, etc. I could not figure out how to deploy many of the features. The 12 step help file is not going to get someone up and running with advanced map display with markers, and lines, etc. without extensive playing around. The author must be a genius; the comment about this plugin being "self explaining" is comical. It is a complicated one. When I get time I will have to sift through the code to figure out how to get what I want done. Looks great though, I only wish I was smarter!

First, this is an excellent google map app. Using the loadposition of Joomla 1.5 you can place the module on any article with ease.

I have it installed on several development sites just waiting until its 1.5 Native. Wondering how much longer that might be so I can can incoporate these into my lives sites.

Also, clients use Google Maps at google.com to create custom icons and locations easily and can export to KML. Are you working on a way to import a KML file, or link to a KML file uploaded onto the website? I currently use another google map plugin on here that does just that and is 1.5 native, but it does not allow for importing coordinates for polygon outlines like yours does. Thanks!

Most likely there will be no native version for Joomla! 1.5 ever. First because native or legacy makes not the slightest difference in functionality (and speed) of this plugin at all (in fact the map configuration page loads even faster in Joomla! 1.0 than in Joomla! 1.5). Second because of lack of financial support. Donations so far do not even compensate the wear off of my computer equipment while writing this program. Third when Joomla! 2.0 comes out there is a good chance 1.5 native versions (and even more 1.0 versions) are not going to work with this new Joomla! 2.0 native anyway. So in the end this would mean testing, maintaining and supporting (and writing in the first place of course) three different versions of this plugin. One for Joomla! 1.0, one for Joomla! 1.5 native and one for Joomla! 2.0 native. Furthermore if new bugs are introduced during rewriting I will get bombarded with emails asking for support. Sorry, but I have neither the time nor the mood for that. But if there is a way adding real new features to this plugin (not rewriting the whole code for native sake only) within a few coding hours, I will see what I can do.

This is a really good extension and there is allot I don't understand, but got it working somehow, like many before me I also think it has little in the way of helping documentation, then it might just be me as I am new to Joomla and the Author explains well why it doesn't. Using this on my final year undergraduate project and it is finally working, including IE6/7. Thanks to [stokesy] for the helpful comment. Many thanks Lanari for make this free.
Installed this under .8 of Joomla and then updated to .10 of Joomla (latest stable version)now the markers do not show up at all.........have tried several new installs and it still does not function.

The component has excellent potentional but misses decent documention or any sort of forum for issues such as this.

I will wait to see if anybody is able to manage a fix for it........

Maybe I am just doing something very stupid.....but without any decent docs relating to it I was not able to get the markers on the site.

best regards to the creator.....it does have potentional.

This Google Maps extension for Joomla ist very powerful and includes nearly everthing that one could ask for. The installation was easy and the setup was done in minutes. Very nice that there already is a geocoder plugin for Community Builder included in the package!

This great extension would be even better if there was a support forum, as there are some things that can be really tricky to setup.

Perfect it works great here is one issue I found and the fix for it(not my fix I take no credit, it took a while to find) and figure I would post it, there are some issures with IE6-7 so you need to go into yoururl/libraries/joomla/html/html/behavior.php and change line 108 to read this
$tooltipInit = ' window.addEvent(\'load\', function(){ var JTooltips = new Tips($$(\''.$selector.'\'), '.$options.'); });';

I guess its a known issue, if you don't it will not allow users to add markers to the map and I hear a few other things don't work as well. The link bellow is for the plugin and it works very well. Hope I am saving someone time because this took hours out of my Easter weekend.
I installed the extension and everything work quite well. Still some support is needed to make it working better.

This is an excellent component and is perfectly suits my needs. I would like to implement a new feature and need to get in touch with the developer. Is there anyway to contact him/her ??

Thanx alot for the hard work

I installed this component. I like it. It is best Google Maps component for Joomla i saw to date.

I have only one problem with it.
I install Map Navigation module. When I assign it to specific menu where the map is, the module doesn't show up. When I assign it to all menus it shows perfectly in all site sections, but I want it only in map section.
Trying to figure it out. May be there is something wrong with module file.
if you are looking for a simple plugin look somewhere else but if you are looking for a complete google maps solution this is the one.
I really dont believe this is a free component.
this component provides everything you might possibly want from gmaps.
it is not a simple plugin which display gmaps in your content, it brings every single possibilty of gmaps to your site.
only down site is the documentation. documentation is very poor when you compare with the capability of the component.
thank you for the great component.

An excellent component that really made my day. Saved me a lot of work and had features that I hadn't think about adding. Huge thanks.

I just want to ask where can I find the language file. I want to work on a Greek translation (which will be shared of course) but I can't seem to find an english.php file which would be ideal to work on. The danish file looks fine but unfortunately I don't speak danish. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for this amazing component.

Great software, I may be being dumb here but...I can't see an email address to contact the author to ask a question...

Also sorry but how do I allow my users to sumbit a marker? I have looked but can't see how to do so... Please help!

Overall I am quite impressed with this component. It works out of the box and that is a lot to say.

The only ares I wish were better are in ease of customization.

I would love to be able to store all of my datapoints in a MySQL database that is separate from Joomla so that I can independently analyze the results using statistics software.

In line with that suggestion, I think it would be great if I could customize the data entry screen to accept a variety of variables besides the default. I personally don't need name, address, zip code, etc fields. I need fields like date, moon phase, and a bunch of other site-specific entries. If I could create those easily without having to break out an editor and redesign the code, that would be awesome.

I will be modifying the code for my own purposes and will no doubt have an easy job because this component is well designed.

Thanks!
Excellent Com and responsive author.
This is one of the more complete and com's I have used on our 1.x site. The com installs and works as is.

Using the configuration section we were quickly able to customize the Com to what we wanted. Then we added the CB plugin and continued on to added site specific markers.. all worked and it was easy to use.

Code seems well laid out and easy to read in case we need to go deeper.. :)

Well done.

Yes very nice work!
I have bee using it from the beginning without any bug, the cb geocoding feature works great and evryting is documented.

I'm only missing a forum to share feature requests but I understand it would take time to maintain. Well My feature requests: ;)
- ability to start on relief map
- ability to change map layout and not using a google map, for ex: http://ryanallen.com/gooncity/city.htm
- Need a content plugin(bot) to add coordinates to content article to have its marker created when saving article...

Keep on the good work!
Thank you very much - the best component with google maps. A very flexible component and a really good and fast support by the developer.

Displaying the results of the directions on the website below the map instead in a new window with Google would be a great feature and would make this component perfect.
Owner's reply

There are two slight problems with that approach. First, if the map is displayed in full screen mode there is simply no "below the map". Second, if there is more than one marker on the map including a "Your address..." link, each link will pop up a new window displaying the directions on an independent map (this works even on the same marker with different queries). Getting more than one result at a time like this is not possible, if the result is displayed directly on the website below (and within) the map.

I've spent a couple of hours with testing and building some sample maps (with Joomla 1.0.15). The Component seems to be very flexible. Assigning markers to categories is a good method to build groups of them. The way to create markers is easy, and the option to retrive geo coordinates via google or yahoo is a good solution.

The Backend gives a lot of configuration options. The tooltips near the options are mostly helpful but not always sufficient.

The URL generator is very helpful. After generating some maps with the generator it's easy to modify an URL without using the generator anymore.

A feature that I'm missing (and think of it could be useful) is the option to assign markers to more than one category.

A little bit more of documentation could push up this component to "excellent" level. Currently I did not find a method to assign a marker icon (lets say marker-red.png) to category 1 and another icon (i.e. marker-small-green.png) to category 2.

And another feature that comes to my mind: Assigning markers to a certain zoom level. That means of marker type "A" will show up on each zoom level on the map, while another marker of type "B" will show up on zoom level 10 or above. These zoom levels should be configurable. This would be great. ;-)
Owner's reply

I'm not sure whether it is a good idea or not to load/unload several hundred markers dynamically on each zoom level change. Not to mention the somewhat confusing effect on the user this might have.

Installed and work absolutely great. Thank you a lot!
This is a mind boggling component with more options than CB, JGroups, and VM combined! I had the basics up and running in a few minutes and the potential seems to be unlimited.

Now for the downside. There only seems to be a one page, 12 step, help file for this massively complex component and there is no forum for support! There is a Google group with some activity, but the respondents on that forum seem to be hard core Google map API types whose answers don't really help the newbies or non-techies that want to do a bit more than the basics with the component.

I'm a programmer with over 30 years exp but trying to get my head around the potential of this component is very frustrating without a dedicated forum.
Owner's reply

A forum would require moderation almost around the clock in order to prevent spam and other inappropriate postings (not to mention technical support). Unfortunately I hadn't planned on that. Actually, I thought this plugin is rather self-explaining.

The twelve steps in the readme file are intended for use as a starting point only. The main help function comes in shape of built-in tooltips for easier use. And just in case, there is a reset button for all configuration settings of this component.
