Fantastic for webspace where you do not have access to the phpMyAdmin interface. Installed in 3min, works straight out of the box.

Problem solved, great component!
Not sure why so many seem to have issues with the install, worked for me without issue. Very nice one less url to remember. :)

Well done
Hello,

wow, it worked straight after installing from the tmp directory. What a great tool! Thanks for your efforts and your help to support the Joomla community with this easy way of taking care of the database.

I have alltogether secured the administrator path. I think that there is no need to additionally secure the other path or should I do it?

Thanks,
Kelley
At first I had a hard time trying to figure out how to install this. So, once I figured it out, I have a straight forward tut even a newbee to joomla! can follow:

Newbee tutorial

1. Create a folder called joomMyAdmin (best to do this in your folder that you ftp from).
2. Download the most recent zip file of joomMyAdmin into this new folder.
3. Upload this file to your site.
4. In your joomla! interface navigate to Extensions > Install/Uninstall
5. Use the Install from Url, drop in the link to the zip file. Example: http://mysite.com/joomMyAdmin/Current_joomMyAdmin_file_you_Uploaded.zip

Problems finding this link. Use your web browser to dig out the zip file, got to: http://mysite.com/joomMyAdmin/ and select the zip folder and right click "copy link location" and paste.

Click "Install"

6. Access joomMyAdmin from Components > joomMyAdmin
7. If you are keeping this active on your site, make sure you secure this folder, follow the secure instructions or contact your hosting company.

Hopefully this will help to get this very deserving component a higher rating.

I was amazed. I had installed phpMyAdmin for a customer on a site hosted by "godaddy.com". They block lots of stuff, including, apparently, access to my customer's database. I installed Cédric Fuochi's "joomMyAdmin" ... and VOILA: I had access to phpMyAdmin. The whole thing (including the download and install) took less than 5 minutes. Good job, Cédric!
I really really like this component, makes editing records, etc. so simple. One question about securing it - I just used cPanel's "Password Protect Directories" feature to create a user and password for the specified folder. Is that OK? I think it's ok because I opened a new browser window and tried to navigate to that folder and it popped up the user name and password dialog.. Just want to make sure I'm secure =)

the answer is YES, you should see an .htaccess file in your directory.

I have spent countless hours going back and forth with PHPMyAdmin and Joomla. This has solved my problems! This together with Google Gears is perfect!

Thank you so much!
this is impossible to instal.
checked zip folder and site can´t find any documentation,

now that this component is so tricky to get working,
why not make a tutorial so its not a pain for every one to install it.
its called a Component, Components is Extentions that can be installed by the joomla installer. it dosent seems to be the way with this "component"
cant install it.
Owner's reply

that's the kind of remarks that make me think to give up opensource development.

You could ask your question by e-mail, I will answer it with pleasure. I believe that you do not know what it is. I suggest you to find a component which will surely be paying much more.

I just wanted to thank you for this excellent component. I love it :-)

Download: fast (with 300 kB/s) *g*
Installation: easy, even for newbies. Unzip, upload to installation directory, install --> max 3 minutes
Security: created .htaccess within 1 minute
Experience: invaluable

I will continue installing phpMyAdmin outside from Joomla! the standard way, which takes me less than two minutes.
Installation is a disgrace - it should install from the zip file, unpacking on the server is often too complicated.
Having it installed, phpMyAdmin presents an error message about the session not being able to be started. The standalone installation of phpMyAdmin works perfectly, nevertheless.
Owner's reply

it is true that you need to have some skills in computing.

If it's too complicated to unpack and install it, I want to know how do you install phpMyAdmin without unpacking ?

Installation from the ZIP file is possible depending on your server configuration.

If there is in Joomla! an option to install from a directory, I think we can use it.

This is a great component!!

I need to access the Joomla database of my clients very often.
Usually access is hard to get but with this, I can easily access the databse, export backups and make database updates.

Basically its PHPmyAdmin right from your Joomla Administrator window,

Download time > 30 seconds.
Install time > 1 Minute.
Access to database in less than 2 minutes !

To the developers, this component is excellent.

Thank you very much !
This is a very excellent extension. I really like it.

The download is long, but I understand because the file to download is very big....but when I tried to install, I waited not less then 5 minutes and it didn't happen anything....
Owner's reply

please read the installation instructions first, you must unzip the file and install from a directory and not directly from the file.
2nd: check your php configuration for the script timeout.

This tool is really useful and very Powerful.

I'm building a new website and this tool helped me to understand the way Joomla and CB keep the information and configuration.

I recommend it for newbies that want to take a look under the hood.
byGeertL on March 26, 2008
For security reasons you should install it - use it and remove it afterwards... no security items left.

I call this component the Plug&Play phpMyAdmin. This is very good extension that help us manage the database. This one had ended the painful days of accessing phpMyAdmin by complicated installation or extra links and accounts.

Ok, don't forget to secure the installation folder.
bygaryamort on October 25, 2007
Very simple, gives you the power of phpmyadmin without having to deal with logging in to the mysql server or such. Everything is self contained.

Great for when you have a server but no direct phpmyadmin access.

This is a REALLY good idea, but it can leave a MAJOR security hole on your site if you fail to secure the directory that it installs in. They warn you not to install this on a production site, but they should probably include a sample htaccess.txt file in the install directory, or even allow you to set a password and rename it to .htaccess. This is especially important for newbies who might not realize the vulnerability they are creating, or fully understand how to solve it. If this directory is not secured, a robot could easily search joomla sites looking for the phpmyadmin install directory, and if it exists, a hacker would have instant back door access to your SQL file.
