JoomFish 2.5 is the full featured release including several addons such as a simple Router for your SEO URL's. It comes with new features such as the integration into the Joomla core translation techniques and enhanced 3rd party support.
Free documentation including video tutorials, first step documentations and additional material is available on our website. The site also includes an open forum for community support and additional resources.
The Joom!Fish club (subscription required) offers enhanced support options and a range of add ons targeted at commercial and professional websites. These include plugins to further manage/restrict the display of untranslated content, restrict certain menus and modules to specific languages and an additional frontend translation component that allows you to manage translators and what they are allowed to translate.
i allways liked and supported this project. For once i had question or found a bug... I posted it on their forums, it took 28 days(!!!) to approve my post. Well the post is still unanswered but atleast it got approved.
I am sorry to say, but like this - why would i upgrade my membership? Will the support be better?
I feel bad for for the negative rating, but it had to be said.
First of all we added a download link to the free version on github to our download page. This should remove the issues related the free or non free part.
Related the support and stability we have just a small number of bug reports on github for this version. Most of them are in the process of being fixed. If you have a specific post on the forum that is not answered please sent us a mail - I'll check.
It is quite interesting to see how less you know our product and services but you claim you do.
JoomFish is a free extension. It always was and it always will be! And of course it is available for no charge right now at the moment.
BUT: There is no support, no feedback and a fast changing development version attached to the free version. You can download it from our open repository at github at all times.
Within our club you get additional support and extensions for our Joomla extensions. And as done in the past we offer a simple installable package to our club members about 3-4 weeks earlier than to the general public.
So before you ask the Joomla community to deprecate an extension you should make sure you have your facts right - don't you think this makes sense?
The latest Joomfish update was supposed to prepare for migration to 2.5... which never happened by the way (I do know about the alpha but that is hardly useful for us). This delay is actually getting quite ridiculous at this stage but thankfully, most J2.5 users have since found a much better alternative component anyway and they are no longer waiting for a hypothetical Joomfish release.
Now going back to this Joomfish version (on a Joomla 1.5 site), I am just after finishing a quadriligual website and this has been a colossal pain. Between database not updating, missing translation fields, or translations simply either not saving or disappearing altogether, this site has taken twice as long to deliver as what I had planned. This is not an isolated event and this has been reported elsewhere countless times.
This just did not use to happen in older versions. And remember, I have been using Joomfish for years so I know how it is supposed to be working (or used to be working, that is, when it did work).
Another thing, the forum is useless and many important thread are just left ignored.
Don't get me wrong though, Joomfish used to serve the community well but it is now pretty much dead. That is a real shame.
Sorry for the delay - I agree it wasn't that what we promised and wanted to achieve.
As for the release it is done now and it is available. We are working hard to get the migration and other topics sorted out.
For sure the latest changes to the core question a lot the sense of the fish and yes we also are happy about having some other extensions working in this field.
Our wish for our anniversary is to get some outstanding extension working for you again.
Very well written and looking into its source code is a lot to learn.
Where necessary with a few lines XML can translate what you want.
Alex Kempkens (and staff)... great work!
I have your Entwicklerhandbuch... sehr gut gemacht! Bravo!
· I wrote 4 posts in their forum (I got published only 2).
· There is no contact email in the joomfish site to anybody so I wrote back to the seller email. No answer either.
· after 7 days of silence I decided to ask for a return of my money via paypal. to that they did answer straght away to say that they had cancelled my subscription and cancelled my 2 publised posts.
· I have read similar support complaints in this reviews. My conclusion is that I am puzzled with this guys because I have been using Joomfish for years, never had to deal with support and after this experience I am keeping out of giving then any more money. Unbelievable!!
Please get in touch with us - this is definitely not what we want to offer as our service. Sorry for that.
It doesn't translate categories and articles titles in the SEF address, so they remain the same for every language you switch to (the links are just in your basic language).
I believe this has a very bad impact on Google ranking of your site. The solution is to become a member of JoomFish Silver club for 60 €. A very expensive solution to a matter that I think should be a part of core JoomFish or much cheaper at least.
Some extension deveopers do not have Content Elements created for Joomfish, so occasionally I have a gap where my intenational clients see some english text. But I also know it is possible to write your own content elements if your extension has none - I'm just a bit too much of a noob for that yet!
I am looking forward to checking out the JoomFish release for Joomla 1.7 (or 2.5) when available.
The forum in the site of the extension is dead.
If you need a multilingual joomla 1.7 project the best option is to look out for another extension.
You are right this version is not for 1.6 or 1.7 - both are developer releases of Joomla that do not have long term support.
The JoomFish team has already a first alpha version for Joomla 2.5 in our public repositories and we are looking forward to releasing a first beta very soon.
I wonder if there will soon a version for J1.7 and I continue to rely on Joomfish for translations and do not want Joomla version was a drawback.
Please, if anyone knows when we will have this version or will trade.
They Club Member is not attractive because is only focused to get support and few plugin not always useful. I will be happy to subscribe to their Club for get NOW a J 1.7 version but is useless because generally even if Club Member get a release before Standard user, a new version is publicly released just 1 or 2 weeks after.
They roadmap is not very clear and we are in dark because we don't know when we can expect a release. Except to know they will support Joomla 1.5 at least until end of years, we don't have no more infos about Joomla 1.7. Their last blog post is old of 6 month.. It's a shame for a indispensable component like Joomfish.
I thinks this component should be 100% Commercial for be more less sure development follow in timely manner the development of Joomla.
Right now we are totally blocked and we can't launch new website because is not logic to start with Joomla 1.5 due to the fact this version is obsolete even if supported until March 2012. Of course we can start new sites using Joomla 1.5 but most developer have stopped development for J 1.5 and/or made separate component version for J 1.5 and J 1.7. So when the time to upgrade will come, it will just a mess for upgrading live big sites.
This is a fair review and 100% acknowledged.
I just want to make one point clear. We will release a 1.7/2.5 compatible version of JoomFish and this will not be bound to the club membership. As usual all our work is done in the public space and the current development is already available on github. The release will be open as usual as our club is a support service and not a hidden way to commercialize the product.
Also, the fact that it isn't available for Joomla 1.6 and 1.7 is also a major setback.
