I have been using Joomfish when I was using Joomla 1.5 and I was very happy with it.
The only problem now is that since I use Joomla 1.7 there is still no version for that and that is not good. It allready last for a very long time and I think many more are eagerly waiting for the new version and hopefully it will come very soon!

Hello. It is indded the best extension for multilingual site.
The problem I had is when having a site with two languages, one of the is RTL such as Arabic. The whole site goes LTR and Joomfish doesn't allow to use two different templates or direction setting for such case.
Or maybe they do but not easy to find.

I want encourage Joomfish developers to work on Joomfish for Joomla 1.7, because core Joomla 1.7 multilanguage solution IS NOT YOUR COMPETITOR! I'm very sorry to say that, I have expierencies with both and core Joomla is complicated for developer and it is nightmare for end-user administrator? CONTINUE WITH JOOMFISH !

Until Joomla finds a way to support multilingual sites without the need of any extension, Joomfish is truly indispensable. Joomfish allows you to create content elements for your own components and internationalize your site/application without a hassle. If you are using 3rd party popular Joomla extensions, more likely the content elements for these extensions are already available,

Kudos to the developers of this great component.

This is a very good language component. If you are developing of you already have a joomla multi-language website, I highly recommend this one.

I've been using this for most of my websites and I haven't encountered any problem with it, if I had, the support is great.

Great work for the developers!
Thanks and cheers!

Joomfish is the most professional solution to make a bring multilingual support to a website. you have to know about the other languages you want to implement but you will have a correct translation, not an automatic.

I did not like joomfish and wanted gtranslate instead, because it jommfish is a waste of time with little result. I hope it will improve.

But the worst is that you can not uninstall it, whitout getting errors. I had to start all over with a new website because of jommfish errors. I am angry!
Owner's reply

If you prefer an automated translation solution over JoomFish I'm surprised you tested JoomFish at all. It is clear that JoomFish is no automated translation tool and it will never be.

What you say about the uninstall is concerning and confusing as I never had these issues. May I ask you to post some more details in our support forum at http://www.joomfish.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=47 as we definitely do not want this experience.

It is good at some point, it helps a little bit, but the main issue is performance. I was getting a lot of performance issues with my website and started to look deeper and see why this was happening. Even the hosting company was complaining about my website.

It turned out that this extension duplicate some or all queries for each article you want to display. I don't understand why when JoomFish was trying their queries they were taking CPU and more time to respond so that was causing problems since articles were not totally displayed and the process in the server was just running like crazy and taking resources. They were blocking the database and also causing a big queue to process results in the database.
I found out when I ran a load test tool and found out all the queries with trouble. I decided to disable Joomfish but the problem didn't stop since the tool keeps duplicating the queries even though is not enabled. I had to uninstall and remove everything related to Joomfish and that helped, I have not had any other issue with performance.

Yes it is a great extension to use to simply translate your Joomla's site menus, articles and modules, but when it comes to components, you have to beg for a content element file from the developer if it is not included with the install package or made available as an add-on on the extensions directory.

If you want to create your own content element file, the documentation and tutorials on JoomFish site are very limited and unclear.

Content element files for components are the nerve for enabling you to translate their contents through JoomFish, without which it is totally useless.

As a suggestion, enable JoomFish to create a content element file for components, have the admin to translate any text from the front-end, or simply add well explained written and video tutorials to show how we can do it ourselves.

What can I say? A client of me needed a multiple language website and I always thought that would be very difficult. With JoomFish it's very simple.

Be careful to first build your site and menustructure first and than install JoomFish otherwise you have a lot of editing to do afterwards.

The biggest problem with this is that clients need to understand they need to have someone that is really commited to maintain the website. Of course it cost more work and effort to maintain your site. But when they do they won't be disappointed.

There are a lot of options, you could not ask for more. You can f.e. for each language use differt pageclasses, etc. There are so many options you won't believe it. Thanks guys for making this one available.

This extension is great. I would recommend it to anybody that needs a multilanguage site.
