The Geocode Factory

- This extension requires registration to download.
With Geocode Factory Component, you can create an unlimited number of Google Maps (v3) or Openstreetmap (or other custom map). Each map has its unique parameters like zoom, zoom range, clustering, size, intro texts, radius search, locate me button (browser position for Android devices, iPhone, iPad, new browsers), etc... Any map can also be assigned to it's individual menu item if desired or into a module position (free module available).
The capabilities of Geocode Factory are extended by use of "markersets". Markersets are how the mapped data that shows on a particular map is defined and filtered. Creation of a markerset is very easy and multiple markersets can be displayed on the same map. For example if you wanted a map that displayed both the locations of your Jomsocial members and your SobiPro entries, Geocode Factory can do this!
Custom map markers can be used in Geocode Factory. A personal image or the profile avatar can be used as a marker icon. The markers can be linked by lines in multiple ways. For example you could show connection lines between Jomsocial friends or lines between Sobi entries and their owner. The combinations are endless! The markers are loaded as XML to increase performance instead of plain text javascript and a caching system is also an option.
The bubble (normal or tabbed) can contain any custom fields from the source component, an online status, avatar (icon for sobi2), streetview, distance from radius, waysearch, etc. The bubble is fully customizable with HTML statements, and loaded with a click with ajax to reduce the loading time.
You can mix profiles and points of interest on the same map (with different icons ans bubbles), for example, by showing the Sobi2 entries in a 50km radius from the logged user.
If you have existing profiles, it's easy to fetch the geographical coordinates (geocode) for them by the user postal address (zipcode, street, country ... etc). The process is launched in one click and the program divide the profiles in packages, to prevent max time execution errors. You can also silent geocode users during profile creation and edition. Google Apikey is no more needed.

Perfect.
In the beginning I found a small bug, but with very good assistance from the developer and a very clear forum. All worked perfectly and looks very perfect in my website.
Thanx
I have been using joomla for a long time and have used many if not all of the CB and Sobi2 commercial and non-commercial extensions and this one is up there with the best. Simple, with good instruction - ( doing what its supposed to!) but most important (and the justification of purchasing a product) is the level of support. And Cedric is "the man"!!!
I highly commend him and his ability to support the product and any small concerns or issues you may have. He was even willing to make a modification at his time/effort and cost w/o charge. Simply outstanding and a credit to the man.
I live in Australia and speak no french but this is the "Crème de la crème"
Simple, clear and well written instructions, I was away running this in about 10 minutes.
The support is more than one could imagine, fast replies (even though my French isn't that brilliant!) and Cedric stand 200% behind his product. It is worth every Eurocent one pays.
In short, it works well, good details and excellent programming plus support! I personally recommend this extension!!!
On the wishlist would be being able to add fields to the bubble, being able to show pictures in there as well as a short video, but I am certain Cedric will pick up on this.
I gave it 5 stars, well deserved if you ask me.
It's a real plus that Cedric gives great support to the extent that he did some work on my database to get this working within the limitations of my server set-up.
On the downside, for me, his web site is in French and he admits on the help screens that his own English is not the best. Some of the back end is not translated but you can probably manage to figure that out. Most of the fields are obvious.
I had some problems finding installation instructions on his (French) site. Google translate doesn't do such a good job and there are many other extensions there (how does he support them all!). Forum support is in English for the most part.
I may have missed it but I would have liked a step-by-step install and set up instruction sheet. It was not intuitive for me to figure out the way that you need to set up the fields in Community Builder and the way that maps, users list and markers to all work together.
Given this small criticism the result is amazing: If it's all working 'as designed', users fill in their details as they register and they are auto-magically geocoded into Community Builder and a map appears on their profile page showing their position.
You can also have a separate map on your Joomla! web site showing all your registered users displayed with custom click-able icons on a map, with a summary of their profile details in a pop-up. Click on the link and their profile in CB opens up.
I can't criticise someone for not speaking English. My French is terrible.
It a fantastic add on.
(...and a great cheeky idea offering a discount on the next purchase in exchange for an honest review!...)
Hello,
The current version contains now a step by step statup guide.
I have see that some texts are not translates in english, I will add this in next release.
Cédric
Documentation was a little scarce and I had real worries about non-english speaking devs' plug-ins because of the language barrier, so when I ran into a small problem and posted about this on the support forum I was not expecting the results I got.
And the results were outstanding, the level of support offered by Cédric is as good as you would expect from an expensive commercial extension and the level of support has been better than ANY other extension I have ever used (which is many).
Now to the extension itself: this extension includes a mod and a component. The mod uses address fields from your CB profiles and turns these (via Google Maps) into two fields for Longitude and Latitude, you can set these fields yourself so they match up with any other list activity.
Using the Factory component you then see these co-ords plotted onto a map of your specification, including editable info bubble layout, editable markers and even editable layout.
There is much much more to this but its all very simple, and you always have the peace of mind knowing that support is there if you need it (which you rarely will).
