Version 2.18 is the latest version. Now also support Joomla 3.0.
In Joomla 2.5/3.0 (1.6 and 1.7) the plugin can be upgraded automatically with the upgrade feature of Joomla at the extensions.
This is the last version where Google Maps API version 2 is supported because this Google Maps version 2 is deprecated from 19 May 2013. So please migrated to Google MAPS API version 3 (set the version to 3.x in the configuration of the plugin).
Also added language support for all the parameters: English, French, Italian and Spanish.

2.18 is a stable version and the following changes are made:
* Joomla 3.0 ready
* Parameters to show Twitter tweets on map
* Google Maps V3:
- Added transit, bicycle and traffic layer and to the directions
* Check for textarea's besides editor so it can be used in frontend editing
* Add css file and css parameter for google maps to solve css problems of templates or extensions
* Use Joomla framework for standalone php files
Solves the following errors:
* Vertical/horizontal slide of the map with new versions of mootools
* Several bugs in Lightbox for v3 and added a css class
* Several bugs in geoxml for v3
* Several bug in Google Earth maptype with the infowindow
It's free and it works perfectly, better than other commercial extensions.
And it has a big plus: the author, Mike. He is ready to solve quickly any problem. Never seen a free extension with this service.

I had some installation issues with this - and contacted Mike. We had 9 "engagements" with led us to remnants of a failed installation (18 months ago), in the media folder.
Once this was identified (by date on filezilla), and deleted; then the zip installation method worked instantly.
This plugin is loaded with features, beyond my needs, so I selected "1x" for the "Google Api version". I left the "key" and "multi key" fields blank.
Set the coordinates to your own, edit the "on-page" code, enable the plugin, and off you go.
I wouldn't have found the issue, without Mike's intervention - every so often, we find help from a stranger thousands of miles away and it restores our faith in humanity.

For the Google API version use 3.x that is for the latest version of Google Maps API and this version does not require a key.
Google Maps API Version 1 does not exists.
I have used this extension a few times over the past year and at its basic level it is very easy to use. However, its real strength is in its versatility and although I had a few problems setting up some of the more advanced features, I received excellent support when it was needed.
I've used this plugin for a number of years on my older site and recently upgraded to the newest version (2.17). Tons of options for the power user, but relatively easy to get up and running for a basic map, too. Great support from Mike. Had a question and he answered it from around the globe in less than 3 hours. I can't get answers from my suppliers next door that fast!
I've used this plugin for years with the old google maps API no problems whatsoever. Since the new version of the plugin and since the old google mapsAPI has been deprecated I find that getting this plugin and the Google API information together are just far too complicated. I tried and tried and failed miserably to get this plugin to do anything at all, no errors but nothing. I do NOT blame the developer, I blame Google. Mr. Reumer gets four stars for the way the plugin has worked over the years. Loses one star for the way it interfaces with the new google map API.
