YRNO2 Long Term Weather Forecast Module

Editor's Note
  • This extension requires registration to download.
This is an update to the yrno long term weather forecast module originally created for Joomla 1.5.

The api used for the original module will come to a close in October 2012 and the module will stop working.

This is an early beta version and there are still many bugs and optimizations to make. I am aware of these issues and am actively working to fix them. Please do not contact me for support regarding site-specific/styling/javascript issues at the moment. This is meant as an early release for people to test and submit errors with the core functionality.

Some of the newer features include:

New ways to add locations
Original fixed location mode
Multi-list without urls (just type the name of the town)
Google geo-search
Geonames.org ajax location lookup
HTML5 geolocation (users location)
Ability for user to save favorite location (in a cookie)
The ability to turn off parts of the table (humidity, pressure etc)
The metogram is now plotted rather than an image and is translateable
Added cloud cover %
Added wind direction icons
Added temperature icons
Sun up/ Sun down times
Show webcams for the chosen area

The credit for the original script once again goes to Henkka of nordicweather.net

It's a nice addon but registrering to download it is just nonsense, because after download most never visit back.

It may be nonsense to you, but then you have no idea why I made the site registered only.

We used this extension on a website in New Zealand, even though the weather data is compiled in Norway. It's a great extension because it gives much more detail than other weather services. Really easy to install and worked straight-away. Perfect. Thanks.

I like this a lot, had issue with jquery, bobbed an email to Robert. Suggested that I use "jqueryeasy and set it to strip multiple versions".

Simple worked great look forward to this coming out of Alpha.

Keep up the good work Robert, and a big thank you!

I was very undecided on the rating and I have to admit that based on the potential of this extension, my rating is rather harsh, however...
The many flaws make the extension unusable as it returns false information that are misleading to a site visitor and that's not acceptable. Furthermore, contacting the developer resulted in no reply so I assume the project was cancelled at some point without a note.
But I want to close with a note on the potential of this: is a very slick presentation of weather forecast that needs some work to make it actually show the weather forecast (not just random data as it does it now).
Owner's reply

Hi,

The 'random data' is the weather information provided from yr.no based on the coordinates of your location. If the information provided is wrong then it is a problem with yr.no or the coordinates of the location as provided by Google's mapping api.

There is no support implied or offered for my free extensions.

I would have rated this extension higher, but there is a problem with weather displaying two days of tomorrow - one for tomorrow and one for tomorrow some days later. For example:

Today, Tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday ...

Also, when setting the primary map location with the exact co-ordinates, the weather doesn't show for that day and only shows tomorrow and beyond weather conditions. If you enter your location into the list it shows Today's weather and then Tomorrow's, but if you don't you only get the weather for Tomorrow and beyond.

Also, when you set a city location it does not allow you to select the state or province thus forcing the use of city and country. I believe this leads to the 'Tomorrow' first in the list display without showing 'Today' first.

If this extension didn't do this it would probably be among the better ones out there, but these things really need to be fixed.

YRNO2 permits to enter your coordinates for whatever place on the world and provides you with very useful and quite precise data (with the limitations of all forecasts). Excellent support from the developer!
