The reason this is so good is that you can setup your new installation, including all you components, modules etc. then import your data. I only used it for Virtumart after I had used another migration component to successfully import data during the new Joomla installation only to have the installation of the new Virtumart component delete all the VM data.
I assume that this works as well for Joomla content and the other extensions that it supports.
Thank you very much

mtwMigrator works so simply and fast, I didn't believe that it actually did anything, but it worked as advertised. First, you do a fresh install of Joomla 1.5.x, then install mtwMigrator as a component into this fresh install. To configure, you provide the server, data base name, and login credentials for the 1.0.x data base, and set some export options. Finally, hit go, and wait a few seconds (large Joomla sites may take longer than that).
You will have to re-install components and monkey with the template, but mtwMigrator handles the tricky data base conversion and installation steps. Besides the fact that I actually got it to work, it was much less stressful than the "manual" migration process described at http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_1.0.x_to_1.5_Stable (which I never did get to work).
The documentation is almost non-existent. The video uses an older version of the software (without configuration options), but it shows you all you need to know to run the migration successfully.

That's all I can say really. I migrated from 1.0.something to 1.5.21 and there was only 1 very minor conflict. Thanks so much as you have saved me hours of fiddling. God bless you very much!!!!
We were trying to use the export content extension and it kept timing out over and over again. This extension worked as soon as we had our settings correct. We not only were able to migrate all of the content, it also set up the section and category id's correctly, and the item ids! Oh, and what was the finale- it converted a smf/fireboard conversion, into a working Kunena Install!
After quite a few frustrating days trying to migrate my Joomla! 1.0.15 site to 1.5.15 using the standard process I eventually gave up and switched to mtwmigrator. Took a couple of attempts to get it right (my fault), but this extension works like a charm. I would advise any novices like myself to try this migrator first. There is nothing to loose and you can always go back and try a standard migration if you run into problems.
Excellent work! We have undergone several migration projects within the last few years. This one in particular was driving me nuts, until I ran across this component again. After the sql injections/imports failed, I was concerned I had a faulty backups. This component ran with issues after simply plugging in the old database user name, password, etc from the old configuration file, but all the data and contact information was imported! Great component, excellent time saver for advanced or novice users!
This extension is recommended for migration from joomla 1.0.x to 1.5, its very easy to use and configure and it is reliable.
Thanks for the developer!

I have read previuos review and tried this component after unsuccesful migrating with migrator.
mtwMigrator is better than nothing when the website is very large. I got my migration but my Lithuanian language is damaged. I need now to open every file, menu, section, categories, modules to improve - rewrite language
I didn't get all my modules as well. Even don't know what is better, to create a wbsite without migration again, or to do now such large job by improving....

For everyone who cannot connect to the database, their seems to be a bug in the current version (11/3/09) that does not allow certain passwords. That is, all of my database passwords are randomly generated as should all, and thus include $ ! etc. These do not seem to be allowed in this system. So you must change your password to a basic password to import the data, then turn back on your normal password after until the developer can fix the bug.
This solution has also been discovered by other members in the forums with the same issue. Hope this helps people, as everyone on here, will simply tell you to double check you username, password, and database name.

We upgrade a small site from Joomla 1.0.15 (without many extensions) to 1.5.14 and were to lazy to copy our content "by foot". This extensions did the job for us. The only catch was a password for the old joomla db containing a Dollar sign ($). The extension didn't like that :). After changing the pw the migration worked flawless. Many thanks to the author.
Great useful extension which helped me to bring an old Mambo site to the Joomla light, something that the default Import tool of Joomla installer could not do (no matter what I tried, this gave me errors, and for trying again I had to delete all files, extract the Joomla package again, start it all over again). THIS should be the officialy-recommended migration component.
It seems to be under development still, and shows some lack of user-friendness -- that's why I rate it like "good" only. Popup help (balloons) would help a lot, and it could also provide as an option the support on uploading a SQL backup (like those generated by CPanel), so you would not have to recreate an old database in your server (some providers allow you to have only one database, so...).
Maybe these features will come in a future release, and will be surely welcome. But if you are reading this for having a tip on how to update your whole site, don't be afraid -- go with mtwMigrator.
